Disney Announces The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes!

Disney announced that The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, a new animated series featuring Marvel’s finest, will debut in the fall on Disney XD. Marvel Animation will be producing 52 episodes staring the usual suspects of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Giant Man, and Wasp.

A 20-part “micro-series” featuring each character’s back story will air on Disney XD in the fall, leading up to the series premiere of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

This is a great opportunity for Marvel to do what DC has done with Justice League and bring newer, more obscure Marvel characters to a large audience. Sure it’s another piece of Marvel’s “Avengers Assemble” plan to give characters like Thor and Captain America some extra steam before their film releases next year, but this is a great gift for any long time Marvel fan.

We’ve seen that super hero team-up shows can be brilliant if done right, and with Marvel Super Hero Squad on Cartoon Network already targeting a very young audience, maybe Avengers‘ content will allow for a bit of maturity.

But what do you think? Are you excited about Earth’s Mightiest Heroes assembling in their own show? Or will you just wait for the film in 2012?

That’s awesome! Good to know that Disney is already capitalizing on the Marvel properties.

I can’t wait. I’m not going to even think it’s going to be anywhere near as good as JL/JLU. I’ll set the bar a little lower and if it does great, then I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Good stories! That’s where these things fail and I’m hoping we get a good Avengers cartoon with plenty of cameos from some of Marvel’s finest
