The future is here, but it is not the future you know. Dan Jurgens presents a completely different, and considerably darker, Gotham that bears little resemblance to the Batman Beyond Universe of the past. Not only is the setting different, but this time around a time displaced Tim Drake is the face beneath the cowl. Admittedly, it is a bit strange reading Tim in this setting and disguise, especially because he’ll still be hanging around in the present in the Teen Titans book, however, Jurgens manages to seamlessly fit him into the story. Bernard Chang does a great job with the art on this issue. With Marcelo Maiolo on coloring duties, the two do a fantastic job creating this dark, dystopian setting for the story. This is a fine start to this new series. Nothing particularly riveting happens, however the basic premise of the story is enough to keep any Batman Beyond fan appeased. 3.5/5

After his wonderfully entertaining repeated appearance in Grayson, Midnighter manages to not only snag his own title, but it is a fantastic one at that. The issue plays out on two fronts, an attack on the God Garden and a glimpse into Midnighter’s daily life. The attack on the God Garden takes the Gardener by surprise, with the attacker completely obliterating all of her defenses and essentially steamrolling their way to the treasures hidden deep within. Meanwhile, Midnighter takes the time to try and find a bit of romance and happiness amidst the chaos that seems to follow him around. Steve Orlando writes a wonderfully charged and exciting first issue. Likewise, ACO and Romulo Fajardo, Jr. illsutrated an absolutely gorgeous book. This creative team managed to take everything that made the character exciting in Grayson and amplify that intensity into a wonderful book. 4.5/5
