Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 09/18/13

CHIRPBANNER1adventure 20Adventure Time #20 (Kaboom!)
Dr. Bustos: I love when this book plays around with formatting.
NickZ: They did a very cool first person story where the audience is literally seeing events through the eyes of one character’s perspective.

Aphrodite IX #5 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech: So glad Sejic didn’t decide to become a plumber or a bank teller. If he had, comics would look a lot less awesome!

Batman #23.3 (DC)
Martin: Interesting to see Penguin being truly dangerous rather than always coming up “short.”
NickZ: Penguin takes matters into his own hands to prove that he still has what it takes to rule the criminal empire of Gotham.

Batman: Detective Comics #23.3 (DC)
Martin: Rather than background on Scarecrow, we get insight into what he’s planning. Set-up for future storylines.
NickZ: The Scarecrow prepares all the Bat-Vilains for the Arkham War!

Batman & Robin #23.3 (DC)
Martin: I like Ra’s, but this was just off. And how many times do we need to see bare-chested Batman fencing?

Batman: The Dark Knight #23.3 (DC)
Martin: Clayface isn’t stupid and wants everyone to know it. A bit of a change in how he’s portrayed.
NickZ: Clayface continually proves why he is an idiot, as if we didn’t already know this.

Buzzkill #1 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: Dark, moody, and a fantastic twist on the superhero genre! Thanks for keeping it fresh!

Cable and X-Force #14 (Marvel)
Arnab: Seriously, is the future Hope from the same future as the future X-Men in Battle of the Atom?
Jeff: So, is that the end of Cable’s premonitions? Status quo change already?
NickZ: It’s the Uncanny Avengers vs. Cable and X-Force, with Hope as their only…hope?

cyber 6Cyberforce #6 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech: Great issue but I’m still calling the dog “Ninja”!

Doctor Who #13 (IDW)
Jeff: I love Doctor Who period pieces. This one has Wild Bill Hickock, Calamity Jane, Oscar Wilde, and Thomas Edison!

Dream Thief #5 (Dark Horse)
Martin: Excellent end to this great series, with hints of a future story.

The Flash #23.3 (DC)
Arnab:
The Rogues are some of the only vilains in DC outside the Bat-Universe that I enjoy reading about.
Martin: More proof why the Rogues are the best DC villains. This story & its tie-in to “Forever Evil” is excellent.

Half Past Danger #5 (IDW)
Martin: I can honestly say I didn’t see that ending coming. Spectacular art & story. You should be reading this!

infinity 3Infinity #3 (Marvel)
Arnab: Hot damn diggity! Hickman is on fire.
Infinite Speech: This issue was PACKED and definitely worth the read!
Jeff: I didn’t understand anything from the Avengers in space part of this book.

Justice League #23.3 (DC)
NickZ: This was just stupid.

Justice League of America #7.3 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Make it stop! Please!!
NickZ: We get a glimpse into the Shadow Thief’s origin. She’s pretty badass.

Kiss Me, Satan #1 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: So, so, so glad I pre-ordered this title months ago!

Morbius the Living Vampire #9 (Marvel)
NickZ: This series was not very good. They wasted a great character like Morbius on bad story telling.

New Avengers #10 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Mike Deodato is drawing the HELL out of this book.
Jeff: Take that, Black Dwarf!

Number Cruncher #3 (Titan)
Dr. Bustos: I’m glad they mention how they are ruining her life, but boy is it awful what they are doing to her.

Powers: The Bureau 7 (Icon)
Infinite Speech: Oeming and Bendis achieve comic awesomeness with every issue of this series!

Savage Wolverine #8 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Your eyes will thank you for reading this!
Jeff: The emotion that Joe Mad can draw…made me sympathize for old Wilson Fisk.
NickZ: The first good Wolverine story in a while or it might just be Joe Mad’s art! It’s probably the art.

Secret Avengers #9 (Marvel)
Jeff: I like that Daisy isn’t SHIELD director anymore. That never made sense to me.

Star Wars – In The Shadow of Yavin tpb (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: Remember when you first saw Episode IV? Yeah, this captures that feeling then multiplies it a hundred fold!

Superior Carnage #3 (Marvel)
NickZ: A smarter, more focused Carnage hits the scene. Can’t wait to see how he matches up against the Superior Spider-Man.

Superior Spider-Man #18 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: Things are getting bad all around but for how much longer?
Infinite Speech: It’s got Spider-Man 2099 in it! What’s not to like?
Jeff: I was hoping that Ock would become less of a dick as time goes by, but it appears that’s not happening.
NickZ: It’s the Superior Spider-Man vs Spider-Man 2099! What more do I have to say?

Superman #23.3 (DC)
NickZ: H’el is back and this time he’s messing up the past or something…ugh

Thor God of Thunder #13 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: Dungeons and Dragons got into Thor more so than usual this month.
Jeff: Darn…I was hoping this book wouldn’t fall back into the old Thor formulas, but it looks like it is.

Teen Titans #23.2 (DC)
NickZ: Deathstroke’s origin is equal parts tragedy and violence.

uxm 12Uncanny X-Men #12 (Marvel)
Arnab: That Jean is shady as f***! They should just line up the Beasts and shoot him/them. Also, Emma better wipe the floor with She-Beast Jean.
Infinite Speech: Just send them back already before the series contradicts itself even more!!
Jeff: It’s about time Emma stood up. She doesn’t need to be relegated to the background.
NickZ: Young Scott and Jean find some allies, while Emma and future Jean prepare for the fight we’ve waited over a decade for.

Venom #41 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: This arc isn’t as fun anymore even with the bright spots in this issue.

Wolverine Max #11 (Marvel)
NickZ: Wolverine becomes a cage fighter and gets seduce by some chick. Who’s writing this crap?

Wonder Woman #23.1 (DC)
NickZ: We learn the origin of Cheetah and she kills a few dozen people along the way.

X-Men Legacy #17 (Marvel)
NickZ: Cyclops and Legion punch it out until an unfortunate turn of events

Zero #1 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Image brings us another solid book courtesy of Kot and Walsh!
