Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 09/17/14

All-New X-Factor #14 (Marvel)
Arnab: I thought the big reveal at the end would be Scarlet Witch coming out of a psychic mind control trance.
NickZ: This was the first “off” issue since this book started. Scarlet Witch just didn’t seem herself at all.

all new x-men 32All-New X-Men #32 (Marvel)
Arnab: So much fun times. More for us than them, but that’s ok.
Jeff: Remember when Marvel said that the Ultimate Universe and the 616 would never cross over? Kinda glad they forgot that.
NickZ: The original X-Men separated and lost in the Ultimate Universe is a great idea and they pulled it off so well.
Infinite Speech: Hank is screwed but this issue was freakin’ awesome!

Artifacts #39 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech:
Another group of Talent Hunt winners get a shot at this title and put out a solid origin tale for The Darkness.

Avengers #35 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
The jump 8 months in the future shows just how fast things can change I can’t wait to see what Hickman does next!

Avengers World #13 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech:
Exact same formula as last issue but this time the team is Asian. Yawn.

Batman Eternal #24 (DC)
NickZ: Spoiler proves she’s a badass but still not as good as when she was Batgirl.

Batman and Robin Futures End #1 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Fantastic art paired with a new Robin and a reminder of why Batman really does need a Boy Wonder.
NickZ: Even 5 years in the future Batman still hasn’t overcome his control issues and guilt.
Infinite Speech: Remember Duke from Zero Year? Well, he’s a badass now. Puberty is awesome in comics.

Batman/Superman Futures End #1 (DC)
Arnab: What a little baby that Superman.
Martin: 4/5 stars. 1 of the best of the week’s Futures End tie-ins. Pak manages to avoid Superman in a clever way.
NickZ: Superman abandons earth and poor broken Batman has to pick up the slack.

Batwoman Futures End #1 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. Way too bleak of a future and not enough time spent on character development. Layouts a bit confusing.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10 #7 (Dark Horse)
NickZ: Xander and Spike adjust to living together again, so that, of course, means pillow fights in their underwear.

Daredevil #8 (Marvel)
Jeff: The Purple Man was creepy enough…but the Purple Children? Yikes!

Deadpool Bi-Annual #1 (Marvel)
NickZ: If you’ve seen Blackfish and hate SeaWorld, don’t miss this issue!

Deadly Class #7 (Image)
NickZ: Deadly Class is BACK and better than ever! (if that’s even possible)

Edge of Spider-Verse #2 (Marvel)
Jeff: I’m really loving all these really good stories of alternate Spider-folks.
NickZ: I think we can all agree we need an ongoing Gwen Stacy Spider-Woman book, STAT!
Infinite Speech: First Doc Ock makes a better Spidey and now Gwen Stacy just trumps them both!

Elektra #6 (Marvel)
Jeff: Thought I might not like this without Del Mundo, but Blackman continues to tell awesome stories!
Infinite Speech: Elektra just can’t get a solid “win” in her own title but man it’s so much fun!

Green Lantern New Guardians Futures End #1 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. A bit difficult to follow for those of us who don’t read the regular series. Just OK.

Hulk #6 (Marvel)
Jeff: This current status quo feels like a mash-up of Peter David and Jeph Loeb’s runs, but I love it.

Hulk Annual #1 (Marvel)
Jeff: Does anyone care about Hulk’s science team? I sure don’t.

Justice League Futures End #1 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. Unfortunately this is just Part 2 of the under-whelming JLU Futures End from last week.
NickZ: A scary future Justice League contain a jail break at a very sketchy Mars prison.

Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man #5 (Marvel)
Jeff: C’mon! I need to see why Peter is back!

New 52 Futures End #20 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Lots happened this week, but the Tim Drake storyline needs to pick up a bit – it’s getting a bit boring

Nova #21 (Marvel)
Jeff: Damn, but David Baldeon is a talented artist!
Infinite Speech: I was told to read this because it looked awesome. My eyes are happy now!

oddly normal 1Oddly Normal #1 (Image)
Jeff: A really fun all-ages romp into what it’s like to be half-witch/half-human.
NickZ: Fantastic new series! The art is great, the story is so fun! I can’t wait for issue two! Otis Frampton has really made something special here.

Original Sin #5.5 (Marvel)
Jeff: This lasted about 2 issues too long.
NickZ: This really ended with a whimper. I think Odin lost his odin-balls during his exile.
Infinite Speech: So the Serpent is now free again? Just don’t want another Fear Itself because that sucked.

Red Hood and the Outlaws Futures End #1 (DC)
Arnab: BOOOO. Never split up my lovely trio.
NickZ: This is really a sad future for the gang to end up at.
Infinite Speech: Wow, yet another downer future story in a DC comic? Way to mix it up there guys.

Savage Hulk #4 (Marvel)
Jeff: Thank you, Alan Davis, for being an artist. This run just looked incredible.

Sensational Comics featuring Wonder Woman #2 (DC)
NickZ: This book has great out of continuity Wonder Woman stories similar to Adventures of Superman.

The Superior Spider-Man #33 (Marvel)
Jeff: I’m really liking where this story is going.
NickZ: I am loving the Superior Spider-Man being back and taking charge of all these alternate Spider-Men.
Infinite Speech: That is one vicious family but it’s good to have Otto back in Peter’s body.

Supergirl Futures End #1 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Another totally messed up future, but one that actually has a somewhat hopeful ending.
Infinite Speech: This sad future story had a kiss at the end. Mixing it up as usual DC.

Superman Wonder Woman Futures End #1 (DC)
Martin: 2.5/5 stars. This suffers horribly from a really clunky explanation of why Superman is in the story.
NickZ: A futures past Superman shows up to help future future Woman Woman and it really doesn’t make sense.

Super Secret Crisis War Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends #1 (IDW)
NickZ: I miss Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends so bad! It was great seeing the gang again.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time #4 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: Great way to wrap up this series but future Donatello reminds me of current day Beast which isn’t good.

Teen Titans Futures End #1 (DC)
Arnab: So now, how did the Teen Titans die? Decent issue, but pointless nevertheless.
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Not bad for an origin story of a new team forming, but lacked relevance to the current line-up.
NickZ: I guess the point of this was to say that there will always be a group of Teen Titans. Maybe?
Infinite Speech: So in clumps of only five years the DCU gets even more depressing?

Thor: God of Thunder #25 (Marvel)
Jeff: A great conclusion to the Thor run that made me interested in Thor.

Trees #5 (Image)
NickZ: Another great issue! Warren Ellis story telling and Jason Howard’s art merge so well in this book.
Infinite Speech: I want to pat myself on the back for suggesting that I read this series to myself! You should be doing the same!

Trinity of Sin: Pandora Futures End #1 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Makes a nice ending to the entire series rather than a forced Futures End tie-in.

Uncanny Avengers #24 (Marvel)
Jeff: I don’t like saying it, but I really hate this book.
NickZ: Magneto and Scarlet witch are reunited and Axis is finally starting to excite me!
Infinite Speech: Axis is going to be ugly. Hopefully in a good way.

uncanny xmen 26Uncanny X-Men #26 (Marvel)
Arnab: Seriously, Iceman needs to get a life. Grow up. He literally admits Scott was possessed, then goes crazy. Does he even have a purpose right now? Go cry me a frozen river.
Jeff: No Bachalo? That was disappointing!
NickZ: As an outsider, Firestar’s perspective on Cyclops is spot on. Iceman needs to chill the eff out and cool his jets.
Infinite Speech: Two issues in a row and Iceman has stepped up and put Scott in his place. He’s probably right about what Xavier’s last thoughts were too.

The Wicked + The Divine #4 (Image)
Arnab: I can’t put my finger on why I like this book so much.
NickZ: These 12 “gods” are so fascinating. I really love their dynamic personalities.

Wolverine and the X-Men #9 (Marvel)
NickZ: The X-Men costume party was hilarious, the rest of this book was awful and completely went against everything that has come before in this series.

Wonder Woman Futures End #1 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. This has pretty much nothing to do with the ongoing Futures End title but it’s a decent 1-shot story
NickZ: It was cool to see Wonder Woman leading a army of the dead composed of some of the greatest agents of war that have ever existed.
