Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 09/16/15

Adventure Time Fionna & Cake Card Wars #3 (Boom!)
NickZ: Fionna and Prince Gumball go on the cutest date while Cake goes a bit insane over Card Wars.

Age of Apocalypse #4 (Marvel)
NickZ: This series reaches it’s explosive meltdown, literally! It’s a feast for your eye holes!

All-New Hawkeye #5 (Marvel)
NickZ: Lemire and Perez beautifully intertwine the past and present in both story and art until that surprising ending!

bizarro 4Beauty #2 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Another great issue of Beauty from Huan and Hurley right here! If Foster would have kept quiet he probably wouldn’t have that pesky bullet in him though.

Bizarro #4 (DC)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. So much to love this issue, including Bizarro’s trip through 4 other DC worlds & his reversal with Jimmy Olsen.
NickZ: The funnest issue of the series so far. I loved the addition of Zatanna!

Bloodshot Reborn #6 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: I did NOT see that coming! Poor choice of words? Oh well, still another steller issue from Valiant!

Captain America: White #1 (Marvel)
Arnab: Is there a good reason why this book is called Captain America: White?
Martin:
4/5 stars. Tim Sales nails an homage to Kirby-style art, & the relationship between Cap & Bucky is touching.

Death Vigil #8 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech: Sejic delivers on all fronts cementing Death Vigil in a long line of great titles to come out of Top Cow!

Dr. Fate #4 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Some interesting interactions w/ Khalid/Fate & the Egyptian Gods, but nothing much “happens.” Needs to get moving.

The Fade Out #9 (Image)
Martin: 5/5 stars. Once again my “comic of the week” for both story & art. The last page leaves you wanting more right now.

Heart In A Box OGN (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: Kelly Thompson and Meredith McClaren make this story of heartbreak and pain worth every minute! A definite must read if you missed out on it!

House of M #3 (Marvel)
NickZ: I am loving the characterization of everyone in this book, especially Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. They are the most interesting siblings ever.

HIABcoverInvincible #123 (Image)
NickZ: Invincible has always been a great series but lately it has reached a new stride in both art and story. One of the best creative teams in comics and definitely Robert Kirkman’s best tittle.

Ivar, Timewalker #9 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: On some sad alternate Earth, Van Lente is a dentist and not making this awesome comic right here!

Jem and the Holograms #7 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: Thompson slows things down a bit and introduces a classic Jem character while Vieceli makes it all look great!

Jirni #2 (Aspen)
Infinite Speech: Killer mermaids, pirates, and some solid character building make this another fine issue in the series!

Lando #4 (Marvel)
NickZ: Lando’s “old smoothy” ways with the ladies pretty much saves his ass from a terrible fate.

Lumberjanes #18 (Boom!)
NickZ: The Lumberjanes meet mermaids!!!…err….womyn!
Infinite Speech: Don’t be like me and miss this issue.

Martian Manhunter #4 (DC)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. The weird, creepy supernatural/science-fiction setting of this title is extremely engaging & lots of fun.

Paybacks #1 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: This creative team can do NO wrong and bang out another comic that demands your attention!

Rat Queens #12 (Image)
Infinite Speech: NOTHING good ever comes from keeping secrets…except this issue by Wiebe and Fowler!

Robin: Son of Batman #4 (DC)
Arnab: Ah, money. It’ll pretty much solve all your problems, including getting a bloodthirsty mercenary off your back.
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Some really great fight scenes & I like the developing relationship between Damian & Nobody.
NickZ: That is certainly one way to Deathstroke off your back.
Infinite Speech: Damian and Nobody are really growing on me as a team. Also, it’s too bad everyone can’t stop Deathstroke like Damian did.

Secret Wars Journal #5 (Marvel)
NickZ: This features a great Night Nurse story and a ridiculous Millie the Model story.

Sensation Comics #14 (DC)
NickZ: Wonder Woman has to make some pretty sketchy compromises in order to bring peace to two warring nations.

sex criminals 12Sex Criminals #12 (Image)
NickZ: You wouldn’t believe me if I told you so I’m just gonna comment on how much I love the amazingly naughty xxx variant covers!
Infinite Speech: So…ummm…if you’re not reading this series grab the 1st issue and catch up!

Spider-Island #4 (Marvel)
NickZ: It was interesting watching monster-heroes debating if they should kill a villain or not.

Spider-Verse #5 (Marvel)
NickZ: A fun little series comes to a very nice ending. My only issue is how Spider-Ham can be creepy AF!

Star Wars #9 (Marvel)
NickZ: Things seem to be going the same as usual for the group…yea, that bad!

Superman Wonder Woman #21 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Actually better than the past few issues, but the conflicts in this issue seem artificial.
NickZ: Betrayed by both of his “baes”, Superman essentially dumps them both at the same time and peaces out.

Tokyo Ghost #1 (Image)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. A great 1st issue w/ tons of fun tongue-in-cheek references, but ultimately it’s a love story, & a good one.
NickZ: Remender and Murphy takes pieces from various dystopian futures and create something new that is fun, intriguing, and down right frightening!
Infinite Speech: Is the second issue out yet?! This was multi layered greatness that I’m glad I’m took a chance on!

Wonder Woman #44 (DC)
NickZ: Mrs. and Mr. Finch makes some really great Wonder Woman comics.
