Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 07/08/15

Age of Apocalypse #1 (Marvel)
Arnab: This was fun, considering I’ve never actually read Age of Apocalypse.
Infinite Speech: I’m liking this ride down memory lane as Sandoval channels his inner Joe Mad for this one.
NickZ: I loved this book. Loved the story, loved the art, loved the characters!

The Amazing Spider-Man Renew Your Vows #1 (Marvel)
NickZ: Spidey acts more like the Spidey we are use to in this one, and I even found MJ kinda likable, way to go Dan Slott and Adam Kubert!

Batman #42 (DC)
Arnab: So Bruce is just walking around being Bruce, but the whole Bat-Family thinks he’s dead? Yeaaa…..
Martin: 4/5 stars. This new arc is building a bit slowly, but that’s a good thing as it allows us to explore more of Gordon’s Batman.
NickZ: This Jim Gordon as Batman thing is just not working for me. Totally not feeling it.

descender 5Batman Superman #22 (DC)
Arnab: This was actually great. A lot of fun.
Martin: 4/5 stars. More exploration of the relationship of the 2 “new” heroes & the return of a Pak “villain” from Action
NickZ: What Bizarro world are we in when Superman is the brains in a Batman/Superman team-up?

Big Man Plans #4 (Image)
Infinite Speech:
This mini series is over but those images will be stuck in my head for some time! I’d suggest you grab this AND the trade when it comes out!

Black Science #16 (Image)
NickZ: Too much stuff went down in this issue and now we have to wait until NOVEMBER to see what happens next!?! Perfect time to catch up on this amazing series if you are not reading it yet!

Bloodshot #4 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech:
Another STELLAR issue that foreshadows some very bad times ahead for Bloodshot!

Bloodstrike #1 (Image)
Infinite Speech:
By page 6 I pretty much was done with this spoof book on Deadpool, Lobo, Cable, and whoever else popped up. It was pretty horrible and that’s being kind.

Catwoman #42 (DC)
NickZ: There are so many sides to Selina Kyle, it’s interesting seeing her deal with all her various roles.

Civil War #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: T’Challa’s actions are confusing but a solid issue regardless. Oh, and Peter’s ‘Falcon’ costume is pretty sweet!

Descender #5 (Image)
saga 30Arnab: Holy shit this book is so good.
NickZ: Descender got real dark, real fast. I already care for these characters and don’t want anything bad to happen to them!

Gotham Academy #8 (DC)
NickZ: This book is like the OC or Gossip Girl of comics and Maps is my spirit animal.

Inferno #3 (Marvel)
NickZ: All Hell breaks loose! (Literally)

Injection #3 (Image)
NickZ: I think I finally get what is going on in this book and it is so awesome! Also, Declan Shalvey did some truly amazing art in this issue!

Invader Zim #1 (Oni Press)
Infinite Speech:
Was I the only one who sung the ‘Doom’ song in their head before, during, and after reading this? If you love some Zim, this needs to be in your hands!

Justice League of America #2 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. I’d prefer focusing on other plotlines from #1 instead of Rao. I’d also like more Wonder Woman.
NickZ: Much better than the first issue. This issue felt like it a movie! Batman’s “He’ll bounce.” reaction to Superman falling to Earth was perfect.

Justice League United #2 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. The beginning of a new, smaller, team w/ temporary “experts” being called in. An intriguing premise.

TheEight_issue1-1Lando #1 (Marvel)
NickZ: An okay start. I don’t think Lando is strong enough of a character to carry his own book.
Infinite Speech: Okay at best mainly because it was very predictable about halfway through.

Mrs. Deadpool and the Howling Commandos #2 (Marvel)
NickZ: Not the best Secret Wars book but still pretty hilarious with all the Man-Thing jokes and Marcus going on about his diabetes.

Oddly Normal #8 (Image)
NickZ: Only in this book can someone holding hands with a severed arm be an unbelievably sweet moment.

Pirate Princess #1 (Action Lab)
Infinite Speech:
Another great comic from Whitley that has now been added to my list!

Red Hood Arsenal #2 (DC)
Arnab: Can Jason and Roy just get together already?
NickZ:
They are so trying to play up Jason Todd’s sex appeal in this series. Stop it, Jason, you will never be Dick Grayson!

Runaways #2 (Marvel)
NickZ: They have officially become Runaways.
Infinite Speech: I’m on board now!

Saga #30 (Image)
Arnab: Ho damn. That ending, yo.  T.T
Infinite Speech: So glad I’m still a fan of this series because that was a damn good issue!
NickZ: It’s going to take me this entire Saga hiatus to process all the feels of this issue.

Secret Wars 2099 #3 (Marvel)
NickZ: There is a Hulk 2099 moment in this issue based off the Avengers movie that is just hilariously perfect.

Spider-Island #1 (Marvel)the walking dead 144
NickZ: As someone who has never read Spider-Island, I really enjoy this issue! Venom’s solution was pretty brilliant and it is going to be fun to see it play out next issue.

Spider-Verse #3 (Marvel)
NickZ: Can you ever really trust Norman Osborn in any universe? I think not. Also, Spider-Ham’s obsession with bacon is disgusting.

Starfire #2 (DC)
Martin: I dig this new, less overtly sexualized, humorous take on Starfire. The creative team are finding the right balance.

Strange Fruit #1 (BOOM!)
Infinite Speech:
I’m pretty sure they meant well but the road to mediocrity is paved with good intentions and this is almost insulting.

The Eight #1 (AHR Visions)
Infinite Speech:
Another great comic that demands your attention is here all wrapped in a solid story and jaw dropping artwork!

The Walking Dead #144 (Image)
Arnab: They say, if you’re going to kill someone, do it right, and boy does Kirkman do it right.
NickZ:
I’ll give Robert Kirkman this, after 144 issue he still finds new, shocking ways to present the death of a character.

Unity #20 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech:
This is one of the best superhero team books out right now
