Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 07/06/16

4001 A.D.: Shadowman #1 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Now that’s what I was missing!

Aquaman #2 (DC)batman 2
Arnab: Is Black Manta Aquaman’s only reoccurring enemy? Maybe that’s why he was considered a joke for so long. Develop some new baddies.
Martin: 4/5 stars. Aquaman seems to be have a bigger role in the Rebirth universe & that’s helped by this issue which improves upon #1.

Batman #2 (DC)
Arnab: Those new guys are weird. Their names are stupid. And they’re overall unnecessary. I mean, how many heroes can Gotham have, while still claiming to be unsafe?
Infinite Speech: Again with the impossible Batman feats? One armed throwing Solomon Grundy?? Not too sure about the two new characters because they’re just…blah right now.
Martin: 4/5 stars. Some great character interactions & the art looks good, but it seems odd Batman isn’t investigating Gotham & G. Girl.
NickZ: This book feels uneven, like the creative team has yet to gel together or maybe I’m just spoiled from Snyder and Capullo’s run.

Batman Beyond #14 (DC)
NickZ: I know all the fanboys love Terry but I’m going to miss Tim being Batman Beyond.

Black Science #22 (Image)
NickZ: Wouldn’t be Black Science if Grant McKay wasn’t f***ing things up across the Eververse!

Captain America: Sam Wilson #12 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: The best thing about this was U.S. Agent showing up. I don’t even LIKE U. S. Agent!

Civil War II: X-Men #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Nothing to see here. Move along.
NickZ: This is exactly why the X-Men need Cyclops! Scott could unite mutantkind in a way Storm and Magento are incapable of.

Deadpool v Gambit #2 (Marvel)
Arnab: Not too much action in this one, but still fun.
NickZ: Deadpool is extra Deadpooly in this issue and I love it!

Dreaming Eagles #6 (Aftershock)
Infinite Speech: “I went to war with Nazis and for 25 yrs all I’ve been scared of is Americans.” Just a great line in a phenomenal series.

Fix #4 (Image)
Infinite Speech: You’ll laugh then laugh some more!

Green Arrow #2 (DC)
Arnab: I feel like every couple of years he loses his company and his friends. Try something new for once DC.
Martin: 4/5 stars. There’s some familiar ground covered with Ollie losing everything & starting over, but so far this is a fun read.

Green Lanterns #2 (DC)dvg 2
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. I’m really liking the “buddy cop” angle of Jessica and Simon but would like some more Simon-focused stuff.

Han Solo #2 (Marvel)
NickZ: Marjorie Liu has nailed writing a great Han Solo story and Mark Brooks and nailed drawing one!

Invincible Iron Man #11 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: A nice way to wrap up the arc and introduce RiRi. We’ll see how that plays out later.

Justice League: Rebirth #1 (DC)
Infinite Speech: This issue had a great cover by Daniel and Morey! Paquette & Fairbairn also did a fantastic alternate cover! Yep, the covers are great here!
Martin: 4/5 stars. A good set-up issue to bring the team together with a vaguely Starro-type villain.
NickZ: Sadly the best thing about this was the Joe Mad’s variant cover of the DC Trinity.

Kim & Kim #1 (Black Mask)
Infinite Speech: You should grab this to satisfy that creative and new itch you’ve had!

Moon Knight #4 (Marvel)
NickZ: We seem to be finally getting close to some answers! Also, how amazing was that Greg Smallwood cover?

Paper Girls #7 (Image)
NickZ: I’ve said it before but this is Back to the Future for the modern era. I highly recommend it!

Poe Dameron #4 (Marvel)
NickZ: It feels like they are just making this comic book to say that they made a Poe Dameron comic book. It has no substance.

Superman #2 (DC)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. From the characterization to the art, this book is helping reinvigorate Superman in the Rebirth universe.
NickZ: I absolutely love this series and lil’ Jonathan is the best “Superboy” ever!

Switch #4 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech: Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better Sejic brings back the Dragon Prince! Hell yeah!

walking dead 156Symmetry #5 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech: Fast forward 20 years and the story is still engrossing and fantastic! And the visuals are just some of the best!
NickZ: Volume 2 begins and the speed and urgency of this series doesn’t slow down for one second!

Totally Awesome Hulk #8 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Bruce lays down some mentoring for Amadeus and you can’t pass on Alan Davis artwork here!

Vote Loki #2 (Marvel)
NickZ: A year ago this story would have seemed so far fetched, but today… not so much.

The Walking Dead #156 (Image)
Arnab: I saw it coming and it was still like, wtf.
NickZ: Holy s***! I may hate Negan’s guts but he is legit the most fascinating character in this book.

The Woods #24 (Boom!)
NickZ: The end of year two had me in tears! Thanks a lot James Tynion IV and Michael Dialynas!
