Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 7/25/12

Amazing Spider-Man #690 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Hopefully we learned that you need to remember which arm you’re supposed to cut off when trying to fool everyone. Sheesh!
Jeff: The Lizard turning people into lizards is such an old and tired storyline. This arc is not doing much for me.

American Vampire #29 (Vertigo)
Arnab: I love when Pearl kicks ass because she does it so well. A
Infinite Speech:
Not a bad issue but not too exciting either.
Jeff: This issue almost put me to sleep. If this arc doesn’t pick up soon, it will be my last on this book.

Aquaman #11 (DC)
Arnab: I want more Mera please. B
Dr. Bustos:
Mostly a filler to get us amped for next issue. C
Infinite Speech: Looks like Black Manta and Aquaman are about to play “Mine is bigger than yours”!

Astonishing X-Men #52 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: The cover of this issue is FANTASTIC and tells a better story than what’s inside!
Jeff: Who is Gabriel Hernandez Walta and why is not drawing this entire issue? I loved his pages!
NickZ: Never been a big fan of Karma so this was not my thing.

Avengers #28 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: I seriously have a new respect for Red Hulk/Thunderbolt Ross. Any man wanting to put a bullet in Cyclops’s head is okay with me!
Jeff: This issue seemed really short, and Walt Simonson has got to go!
NickZ: Red Hulk is an idiot and he got what he deserved.

Axe Cop: President of the World #1 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: Eli’s explanation of this issue was a lot better than the actual issue. Maybe Eli should write Axe Cop.

Batman The Dark Knight #11 (DC)
Arnab: The kids in this book are awesome, in a way that only children can be. B
NickZ:
Anytime you have a scene with Batman and a child, you win. (Don’t be gross)

Before Watchmen Comedian #2 (DC)
NickZ: The Comedian is such an interesting character that even though this series is unnecessary, I’m still enjoying it.

Dark Avengers #178 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Want to know how to kill a decent story? Insert corny dialogue “…my skills are illin'” and go from there. I really like Parker’s work but the guy really drops the ball when it comes to slang. No one has used that word since 86.

Deadpool #58 (Marvel)
Arnab: At this point, I would read any Deadpool book of any variation that Daniel Way writes. A
NickZ:
Only Deadpool can have an issue start with him sitting on the toilet and continue with his ass hanging out for half the issue.

The Flash #11 (DC)
Arnab: Barry working at a bar, filled with rogues? Awesome. A
Dr. Bustos:
Seeing Flash have to start over in an unfamiliar locale, especially when it’s a Rogues Bar, fun. Not a fan of the powered villains. Miss the gadgets. B
NickZ: I love the idea of Barry working at the Rogue’s hang out bar.

New Deadwardians #5 (Vertigo)
Jeff: This is something that will probably be better in trade rather than issues.

Secret Avengers #29 (Marvel)
Jeff: Whoo boy…next issue is Venom vs. Taskmaster…I can’t wait! This was a great issue!
NickZ: Venom seems like he’s becoming a liability to this team.

Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow #15 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: Storm Shadow gets played and Zartan meets the Dreadnoks in another great issue!

Super Dinosaur #12 (Skybound)
NickZ: If you’re not getting this book for your kids, I think that’s a form of child abuse.

Superman #11 (DC)
NickZ: I honestly believe this book would work better if it was just about Clark Kent and Lois Lane and didn’t have Superman in it at all.

Teen Titans #11 (DC)
Arnab: No matter how much DC may try to tarnish Tim Drake’s character, he will always be the heart of this book, which happens to be a damn fun book to read. B+
Infinite Speech:
Lobdell and Booth keep this title fun but could the Silent Armor have a few more spikes please? I don’t think there’s enough.
NickZ: Superboy and Red Robin really make this book for me.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #12  (IDW)
Arnab: Turtles vs. Shredder . Love it. This series is everything you want it to be and then some. A
Infinite Speech:
The guys finally face Shredder and it’s a damn good fight!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles MicroSeries #6 (IDW)
Arnab: I love Casey Jones and this book shows you why you should too. A
Infinite Speech:
A deeper look at Casey Jones and I see why everyone really likes this guy.

Uncanny X-Force #28 (Marvel)
Arnab: Another alternate universe, another Betsy for me to not care about. If only she had dived off a tall building, at least that would have seemed somewhat permanent. B
Jeff:
Sigh…another alternate future universe…yippee, swell, great, whatever.
NickZ: HOLY CRAP! Why should I even be surprised by the awesomeness of this book at this point?

Voodoo #11 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Still can’t believe this series is ending soon! It’s been great since the beginning and this issue proves that!

Witchblade #158 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech: A bratty 12 yr old kid gets knocked the hell out and Diego Bernard is still making this title look fantastic! That’s the only saving grace here.

Wolverine and the X-men #14 (Marvel)
Arnab: So the Avengers F*** everything up and somehow the X- Men are assholes. Good one Marvel.
Dr. Bustos:
So Colossus is in charge of the Cyttorak and a part of the Phoenix Force? That’s a bit much and they address that. A
Infinite Speech: Never thought I’d see the day Colossus would become a douche. Guess that’s a hidden’ power of the Phoenix.
Jeff: I wish they weren’t making the Phoenix X-Men such tremendous dicks. I really want to be on their side, but Colossus is such an idiot.
NickZ: Poor Kitty and Peter. 🙁

X-Men: Legacy #270 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Gage and Baldeon prove that there’s a reason this is one of the stronger X books on the shelves. I’m gonna miss this one!
Jeff: When this title ends, I hope Marvel has the sense to put David Baldeon on a top-tier X-Men book.
NickZ: Rogue annoys me so much. I wish this book would go back to being about Professor X.

X-Treme X-Men #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Buying this issue is the equivalent of getting a fruit cake and ugly holiday sweater for Christmas.
Jeff: Once again, a decent story was ruined by lackluster art. Not a good start for this book.
NickZ: An interesting premise but how many alternate reality X-Men books do we need? Really?
