Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 07/02/14

Action Comics #33 (DC)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. My favorite Superman title with a stellar creative team and one of the better New 52 Superman story arcs.
NickZ: “Superman Doomed” takes a left turn here but with the return of the Cyborg Superman, I’m sure it will get back on track.

xfactor 10All-New X-Factor #10 (Marvel)
Arnab: I am really diggin’ this series.
NickZ: Gambit’s “whore” lifestyle finally catches up with him. Yes, I called Gambit a whore, bring it.

Angel & Faith #4 (Dark Horse)
NickZ: Angel finally gets a win, while Faith questions her future, and two ghost from BTVS past are about to make a come back.

Batman Eternal #13 (DC)
NickZ: Another issue with a ton of little stories and characters that you just know are going to come to a head soon.

Batman Superman #12 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. This was… not what I was expecting. Not the Greg Pak story he’s capable of, and the art was lacking.
NickZ: Superman and Batman get a second chance to correct their failure in the first arc of this series, but they seemly fail, again?

Batwing #33 (DC)
NickZ: Batwing faces one of the most interesting new characters in a long time, in the form of Gruesome George.
Infinite Speech: Very good issue and it’s a shame the series is ending because the potential is obviously there!

Big Trouble in Little China #2 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: It’s fun and really channels the vibe of the movie which is all the more reason to get it!

Black Widow #8 (Marvel)
Jeff: I felt like this issue ended too soon, which means I must have really liked it!

Captain America #22 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Great issue that’s going to lead to a new Cap and I’m hopin’ it’s Falcon!

Daredevil #0.1 (Marvel)
Jeff: More Man-Bull please.

Deadpool vs. X-Force #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Die hard Deadpool fans will want this. The rest of us will be okay if we don’t read it.
Jeff: The fact that they point out all the inconsistencies at the end doesn’t make this funny, but really sloppy.
NickZ: A time travel tale that took place a long time ago in several different time periods, who has the time for this?

east of west 12East of West #12 (Image)
Arnab: Hands down, this series is one of my all time favorites.
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Some great character development for Wolf & Crow, but Death actually acts a bit out of character this time.

Earth 2 #25 (DC)
Infinite Speech: So DC has pretty much made this the most diverse title in their stable of books.

Green Arrow #33 (DC)
Arnab: Much better than it has been recently.
Martin: 5/5 stars. One of the best in a long line of great GA issues. Excellent art as always, and a cool story, plus Emiko!

Iron Fist: The Living Weapon #4 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: If you thought last issue couldn’t be topped then you were wrong. Best new series from Marvel!
Jeff: I don’t think chi is gonna help those broken hands.

Lazarus #9 (Image)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. More great world-building, genre-blending, character development, and art this issue. What more could you want?

Legendary Star-Lord #1 (Marvel)
Jeff: A great first issue for those of you who are anxiously awaiting the movie.

Magneto #6 (Marvel)
Jeff: Javier Fernandez is a fantastic fit for this book. Please keep him!
NickZ: Magneto goes beast against the Marauders. He puts an end to their endless clone rebirths and gives them one last life as his pawns.

Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man #3 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Miles Morales must have received that good ole Parker Luck when he was bit by that spider. This guy can’t get a break.
Jeff: So did anyone else catch that dude dressed as Ms. Marvel in the police station say that the worlds were converging?

Moon Knight #5 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: One of the best sequential beat downs this week! You should be reading this!
NickZ: This entire issue is the most kick ass fight scene that has taken place in a comic book since…ever?

New Warriors #7 (Marvel)
Jeff: I’m just not feeling this team. I’m done.
NickZ: Can we all just take a moment and appreciate the fact that there is a legit New Warrior who is an evolved dog and his name is Jake Waffles? He named himself JAKE WAFFLES!!!

original sin 5Original Sin #5 (Marvel)
Arnab: I’m confused. All this time, all the invasions and kidnappings and celestial beings, and Nick Fury was supposed to be protecting Earth? FAIL
Infinite Speech: Even if you saw this reveal coming…you didn’t see it coming. Wow!
Jeff: This was a slow, catch-up issue, but I’m still loving this event!
NickZ: An interesting rewriting of Marvel history in regard to Nick Fury. Can we just talk about how terrible he must have been at that job considering all that Earth has faced!

Robocop #1 (BOOM!)
Infinite Speech: Picking up during the time of the original films and it’s off to a good start

Rocket Raccoon #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: I didn’t think I’d like it but that quickly changed!
Jeff: Welcome back, Skottie! We missed you!
NickZ: Scotty Young is perfect. Rocket Raccoon is perfect. This was a match made in comic book heaven.

Southern Bastards #3 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Walk softly and carry a big stick. Then swing the hell out of that stick!
Jeff: I love everything about this book. Even if it wasn’t set in the South, it would be awesome, but because this reminds me so much of the town in Alabama I grew up in, it’s really wonderful.

Superman Unchained #7 (DC)
NickZ: “Good. Then he can’t come rescue you.”- Batman’s bravado is off the charts but you still believe it because he’s Batman.

Thor: God of Thunder #24 (Marvel)
Jeff: Who is Agustin Alessio and why isn’t he drawing this book regularly?

Witchblade #176 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech: I hate creepy @$$ clowns but I liked this issue a lot more!

Woods #3 (BOOM!)
Infinite Speech: Don’t know if I’d be able to still function after bugs exploded from my arm. That was just gross.
