Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 06/15/16

Amazing Spider-Man #14 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: So Regent is Nimrod & Super Adaptoid rolled into one. Not a bad combo in one of the better issues in this series.

Assassin’s Creed #9 (Titan)
Infinite Speech: Can’t get enough of this!

Astro City #36 (Vertigo)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. A great ending to the Jack-in-the-Box arc with a unique flashback showing the villain’s side of the story.

batman 1 Batman #1 (DC)
Infinite Speech: It’s stuff like this that has people believing Batman is unbeatable. Still a good issue w/ a nice surprise ending.
Martin: 4/5 stars. Really great interactions between Batman & Gordon, as well as with Batman’s supporting team of Alfred & Duke.

Black-Eyed Kids #3 (AfterShock)
Infinite Speech: Pruett and Kudranski are delivering one hell of a creepy story here!

Civil War II #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Karnak is my favorite Inhuman because he just doesn’t care who or what he has to bring down!

Civil War II: X-Men #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: This issue gives the mutants a deeper stake in this whole mess. It’s like Civil War II squared.

Dark Knight: The Last Crusade #1 (DC)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. Not just cashing-in on TDK, but an actual prequel story that works, with great art as well.

ExMortis #6 (451)
Infinite Speech: This is definitely one of the titles from 451 you should be reading!

Green Arrow #1 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. The relationship between Black Canary and GA is well-done & it’s great seeing returning GA supporting cast.

Green Lanterns #1 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. I like the dynamic between how different Jessica & Simon are, and I’m digging Rocha’s art and layouts.

Hip-Hop Family Tree #10 (Fantagraphics)hip hop 10
Infinite Speech: Every issue brings back great memories for us old school Hip-Hop heads!

Joyners #1 (BOOM!)
Infinite Speech: We meet this family as it’s falling apart and things couldn’t be better! Great issue from Ryan & Marquez!

Justice League #51 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Why take so long to tell this story? Still a good issue and teaching moment for Robin with a classic feel to it.
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. A really well-done story about Robin’s 1st meeting w/ the League, accompanied by great Pelletier/Hope art.

Klaus #6 (Boom!)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Magnus is the focus this issue as he completes the final stage of his master plan, accompanied by great Mora visuals.

Lazarus #22 (Image)
Martin: 4/5 stars. The long hiatus since issue #21 hurts the story, but this is still one of the best, intriguing books on the market.

Patsy Walker AKA Hellcat #7 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: This is one of those titles that should get more shine than some of the overhyped mess from Marvel.

Scarlet #10 (Icon/Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Bendis & Maleev still deliver a brutal, hard hitting series that shows them at the top of their game.

Superman #1 (DC)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. I love that they brought back post-Crisis, pre-New 52 Superman, but the art and characterization make this book.

Tales from the Darkside #1 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: Good to see two thirds of the Locke & Key team back with more suspenseful horror for fans to enjoy.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #59 (IDW)tmnt 59
Infinite Speech: Nooooooo!!! I wasn’t readyyyy! A great issue with a serious kick in the feels here.

Titans: Rebirth #1 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Wally’s good touch brings memories back and sets up the new series. Hope it lives up to expectations.
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. If Flash Rebirth #1 was “DC Universe Rebirth, #2” this is #3. Focus on establishing the Titans’ friendship.

Uncanny X-Men #8 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Archangel is the only thing interesting about this series and he spends most of the time in stasis.

Wrath of the Eternal Warrior #8 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Ludo would help getting through this labyrinth a lot easier. See what I did there?
