Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 6/10/15

Adventure Time Marceline Gone Adrift #6 (BOOM!)
NickZ: Marceline and Princess Bubblegum’s past romantic relationship takes center stage in this issue and it couldn’t be more mathematical!

Batman #41 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. It’s a tough job trying to re-invent Batman yet again, but this creative team consistently puts up a great batman41effort.
NickZ: I don’t think I will ever get use to Jim as Batman. I have so many questions, but in Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo I trust.
Infinite Speech: I didn’t expect to like this but Snyder and Capullo surprised the hell out of me!

Batman/Superman #21 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Interesting look at the new status quo of Supes & Bats interacting with each other. Fantastic Syaf art.
NickZ: Neither of these characters are the same (one literally), so a book based on their friendship just doesn’t work anymore!

Black Science #15 (Image)
NickZ: Every issue is more awesomely, crazy than the last. I am both excited and afraid for the end of this story arc, next issue.
Infinite Speech: It’s been a crazy ride since the first issue and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down!

Captain America & the Mighty Avengers #9 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Damn you, Al Ewing! The final issue wasn’t supposed to make my eyes sweat!

Catwoman #41 (DC)
NickZ: This book is so great! Selina’s reaction to Batman’s “death” hit you right in the feels!

Chrononauts #4 (Image)
NickZ: If you didn’t pick up this series make sure you get the trade. It is such a fun, Sci-fi adventure and I absolutely loved the ending and i’m glad it will be back in 2016!
Infinite Speech: If I had a time machine I’d go into the future and read the next arc!

Constantine: The Hellblazer #1 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars Good re-introduction to the classic con-man. Art pushes the score higher, esp. the 2-page spread

Copperhead #8 (Image)
NickZ: The main character wasn’t even in this issue and it was still awesome. This book is literally a western, in space, with aliens.

Descender #4 (Image)
NickZ: Never thought I would be rooting for Robots over people but Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen have got me doing just that! Tim-21, Bandit, and Driller are all awesome!

Detective Comics #41 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. As a contrast & complementary book to Batman, this works, but it’s mainly about Bullock & the GCPD.
NickZ: Bullock and Montoya working together again? Hell yes! It feels Batman the Animated Series all over again and I love it!

Earth 2 Society #1 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Jimenez has a unique, fun, somewhat exaggerated art style. The story jumps around a bit too much.
Infinite Speech: This feels different from other DC books and it’s a great thing.

Gotham Academy #7 (DC)
NickZ: I was hoping Damian would have a more permanent stay at Gotham Academy, but it was a great issue anyway. Maps is the best!

Harrow County #2 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: The first issue impressed and so did this one. Get your horror fix here folks!

harrowcountyInferno #2 (Marvel)
NickZ: This book is so awesome! Little Nathan…err, Cable is my new favorite character!
Infinite Speech: Nostalgia feels so good right now.

Inhumans Attilan Rising #2 (Marvel)
NickZ: The Quiet Room is just as intriguing as you’d imagined. This had lots of fun surprises and great action too!

Injection #2 (Image)
NickZ: This issue was way violent and bloody, and while i’m still not exactly sure what is going on in this series, I like what I see so far.

Kanan the Last Padawan #3 (Marvel)
NickZ: If you like the Star Wars Rebels animated show (and who doesn’t?), then you must read this series.
Infinite Speech: The Force is so strong with this title so you need to check it out.

The Li’l Depressed Boy Supposed To Be There, Too #5 (Image)
NickZ: This arc ended on a bittersweet note. The li’l depressed boy is becoming the li’l depressed man right before our eyes.

Mrs. Deadpool and the Howling Commandos #1 (Marvel)
NickZ: I have a new appreciation for Shiklah after reading this book and the story was actually much better than I anticipated.

Palmiotti & Brady’s The Big Con Job #4 (BOOM!)
Infinite Speech: This is too fun to pass up!

Rachel Rising #34 (Abstract)
Infinite Speech: Thirty-four issues in and I haven’t been let down yet. Storytelling perfection right here!

Red Hood/Arsenal #1 (DC)
NickZ: I always felt Starfire didn’t really fit in with these two.
Infinite Speech: The art wasn’t my cup of tea and the story didn’t impress either. Hopefully it gets better.

Saga #29 (Image)
NickZ: Only in Saga can you have a double page spread of a dragon sucking his own d***, and that not be the most shocking thing in the book!
Infinite Speech: I’m going to stop thinking that Fiona Staples has shown me everything and that she can’t shock me anymore.

Secret Wars Journal #2 (Marvel)
NickZ: The “Hell’s Kitchen” story with Daredevil working as cook for Sinister is a can’t miss!

Secret Wars 2099 #2 (Marvel)
NickZ: These 2099 Avengers have so many personal issue, I find them way more interesting than the regular Avengers.

Section 8 #1 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. Mostly just pure zaniness but as a 1st issue it focuses more on out-of-character gags vs. being a true introduction.

Silk #5 (Marvel)
unityNickZ: I don’t really get Black Cat’s dislike for Silk but I do love it!

Spider-Gwen #5 (Marvel)
NickZ: The Black Cat, Daredevil, and Spider-Woman fight was pretty awesome. “Matt Murderdock” is just an ass!

Spider-Verse #2 (Marvel)
NickZ: This ragtag band of Spider-men/women/pig are awesome! Can’t wait to see them face the Sinister Six.

Starfire #1 (DC)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. There’s so much that could have gone wrong w/ this, but the creative team delivered a book with laughs & heart.

Unity #19 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: This is becoming my favorite superhero team book from any publisher!

The Walking Dead #142 (Image)
NickZ: Rick and the bad-ass squad take off to rescue Carl but they miss the wolf in sheep’s clothing they left back at home.

X-O Manowar 25th Anniversary Special (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Finally we get the origin of Shanhara (Aric’s armor) and it’s another great story from Valiant!
