Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 04/23/14

7th Sword #1 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: Going to need another issue to sell me on the story but the art is great!

Avengers Undercover #3 (Marvel)
Jeff: If you imprison a bunch of teenage super-heroes and make them fight to the death, you’re bound to get yours in the end.

Batman Eternal #3 (DC)
Arnab: Stephanie Brown is back and she is hopefully not going anywhere soon.
Martin:4.5/5 stars. Return of a fan favorite to the New 52 and some really just DARK stuff with Gotham’s villains.
Jeff Lake: Two words: Stephanie. Brown. Also, how bout that consistently great art by Fabok?

Batman/Superman #9 (DC)
Arnab: Jae Lee’s art saves this late book.
Martin:n/a. They were late publishing it, so I decided to be late reading it. Yeah that’s right. I’m a REBEL!

the bunker 3The Bunker #3 (Oni Press)
Jeff Lake: Fialkov’s characterization is amazing; he and Infunari are an awesome pair.

Daredevil #2 (Marvel)
Jeff: I love the Shroud as a foil to Daredevil. Perfect!
Infinite Speech: I’ll see how this plays out and hopefully it’ll get me to stay with the title.

Dead Body Road #5 (Image)
Jeff Lake: A dude riding a motorcycle gets his head chopped off by an axe. Need I say more?

Eternal Warrior #8 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Pak is awesome on this series and I’m going to be bummed when things go back to the regular time line.

Flash #30 (DC)
Arnab: This week was return of the lost characters week. I hope they treat this one well.
Martin:4.5/5 stars. Some interesting time-travel stuff which is always fun and the debut of another long-lost character to the New 52.

Elektra #1 (Marvel)
Jeff: I’ve wanted to see Mike Del Mundo on interiors for a while, and he does not disappoint. This book is gorgeous!
Infinite Speech: HOLY CRAP! There’s a reason Mike Del Mundo is nominated for an Eisner and this issue proves it!

Guardians of the Galaxy #14 (Marvel)
Arnab: Why is Venom in this book? Why does Venom wear clothes underneath his symbiote?
Jeff: Did I miss an issue here? When did Venom show up?
Infinite Speech: Why do I feel like I missed out on something? Venom joined the team, when??

Iron Patriot #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Umm…this wasn’t the issue I was looking for.

Justice League Dark #30 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. More mopey Constantine, more team changes… but it all kind of works, even though nothing much happens.

Justice League United #0 (DC)original sin 0
Jeff Lake: A solid debut that left me wanting; here’s hoping the new character gains some substance.
Martin: 4/5 stars. A really fun debut with an eclectic cast of characters. Really excited about Adam Strange & Equinox.

Lazarus #8 (Image)
Jeff Lake: I’m loving the Waste focus in this arc, but when will the Family return to play?
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. Rucka, Lark, & Arcas continue to paint a really fascinating picture of the future, focusing on Forever & the Waste.

Original Sin #0 (Marvel)
Arnab: Cute. Adorable. Those are the words I would use to describe Nova. Also, after this issue, I’m kinda bummed that the Watcher is going to end up dead.
Jeff: Um, didn’t Nova GIVE Uatu the Ultimate Nullifier? Why is he surprised that the Watcher has it?
Jeff Lake: Pretty engaging stuff, love how they used Kid Nova as the issue anchor. I may actually stick with this one!
Infinite Speech: Beautiful artwork and a nice set up for anyone new to Uatu that gets us ready for Original Sin!

Savage Wolverine #17 (Marvel)
Jeff: This was a heartbreaking and beautiful Wolverine story.

Shotgun Wedding #4 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech: There’s ALWAYS “one more job”! Perfect finish to a great series that deserves to be read!

Skullkickers #28 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Every origin story should look this good and be this fun!

Star Wars: Legacy #14 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: Trapped on a planet that rains glass and pure acid?! It really sucks to be Ania Solo!

Ttmnt 33eenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #33 (IDW)
Arnab: This continues to be one of my favorite books.
Jeff: Casey Jones is unbelievably boring to me.
Jeff Lake: Santolouco returns on art as the Turtles return to NYC. Can’t remember the character depth ever being this strong, read it!
Infinite Speech: This is hands down the definitive TMNT series for this generation! Other companies take note that THIS is how you do a reboot!

Uber #11 (Avatar)
Martin: 4/5 stars. This book has “come back” dramatically over the past few issues. Some stunning art here & strong character development.
Infinite Speech: Every issue I read I kick myself for not giving this title a shot when it started! Read it!

Uncanny Avengers #19 (Marvel)
Jeff: Ah, so we’re doing a little Days of Future Past action here.
Infinite Speech: Kang is an ass but what did you expect Havok. Now go save the past and your kid!

The Walking Dead #126 (Image)
Arnab: There’s a time and place for jail and a time and place to feed someone to zombies. I myself would have chosen the latter for Negan.
Jeff: I’m glad Negan is sticking around, but I was sorely disappointed that the end of this war yielded nothing.
