Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 04/02/14

Action Comics #30 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Some more closure to the last arc while setting up the new cross-title Doomed event. Harrow’s a cool villain.

Adventure Time the Flip Side #4 (Kaboom!)
NickZ: This was the strangest Adventure Time story ever and that’s saying a lot!

Angel & Faith Season 10 #1 (Dark Horse)
NickZ: See Faith’s perspective on the events that went down in last week’s Buffy, and Angel does stuff too.

Archer & Armstrong #19 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Nineteen issues of one of the best titles Valiant is putting out!
Jeff: A nice twist at the end with the concept of “team-up.”

Artifacts #36 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech: I’ll never complain about “killer math” again. Ever.

Bad Blood #4 (Dark Horse)
Jeff: Ah! I had a feeling something was not quite right.
Infinite Speech: Holy crap!! I didn’t see that coming and don’t pretend you did either!

Batman: Detective Comics #30 (DC)
Arnab:
Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato are on fire. This book is absolutely gorgeous.
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. Been looking forward to @FrancisManapul & @BrianBooch on Detective since it was announced. They don’t disappoint.
NickZ: I loved Manapul and Buccellato on Flash! It’s so great to have them doing a Batman book! That cover alone should have you hooked.

Batwing #30 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Gray & Palmiotti are making this title so much fun to read and keep reading!
NickZ: I find it very hard to black science 5believe that an entire underground society could exist under Gotham without anybody knowing about it.

Black Science #5 (Image)
Jeff Lake: Curiouser and curiouser. For the first time Remender really “peels back the onion”, and what we discover is nuts!
Martin: 5/5 stars. Really interesting, clever story twist that totally makes sense when you consider the premise of the comic.
NickZ: If things weren’t bleak enough, now we have alternate reality doppelgangers running around trying to muck things up.

Black Widow #5 (Marvel)
Jeff: I’m usually not a fan of espionage stories, but this one has me completely hooked! Well done, Edmonson & Noto!

Dead Letters #1 (BOOM!)
Jeff Lake: This book has it all; dynamic art, compelling writing and one doozy of a twist ending. Solid debut.

Deadpool vs. Carnage #1 (Marvel)
NickZ: What happens when a bloodthirsty killer takes on a man that can’t die? Hilarity of course.

Earth 2 #22 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Some fun scenes with the “other” Kryptonian & more development of Lois/Red Tornado, w/ fantastic Nicola Scott art.

Green Arrow #30 (DC)
Arnab: All hell is breaking loose. The factions are at war!
Martin:
5/5 stars.@JeffLemire, .@And_Sorrentino & .@MMaiolo are crushing it. Outsiders War is 1 of the best stories in comics now.

Harlem Hellfighters TPB (Broadway Books)
Infinite Speech: Books like this need the same amount of excitement behind it as the sub par comics on the shelf! Brooks and White are phenomenal here!

inhuman 1Inhuman #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: This actually feels like the “next big thing”!
Jeff: I’m really enjoying what Marvel is doing with the terrigenesis thing. This was a fantastic first issue.
Jeff Lake: I have no idea what’s happening here. Joe Mad’s art is cool, though.
NickZ: Picked this up on a whim, and it is actually pretty awesome! All I got to say is Joe Mad drawing Medusa and her glorious hair is something not to be missed.

Invincible Universe #12 (Image)
NickZ: So sad that this book is ending. (taking a break?) It was a fun run and at least we can still enjoy Nauck’s art over in Nightcrawler!

Juice Squeezers #4 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: Don’t complain about a lack of good comics and you’re not reading this one!

Loki: Agent of Asgard #3 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: Love the mix of old myth and new ideas. Especially bazooka ideas.
Jeff: I’m still surprised that I’m enjoying this book. The script in this issue was a bit more difficult, but it came together in the end.
NickZ: Old, evil Loki is just no fun, but damn if he isn’t the most manipulative SOB this side of Frank Underwood.

Magneto #2 (Marvel)
Jeff: The dark tone of this book is just fantastic. Walta’s art is really working here.
NickZ: I love how dark and tragic this book is. Magneto has never been more compelling.

The Movement #11 (DC)
Dr. Bustos: His brother is literally the worst.

new warriors 3New Warriors #3 (Marvel)
Jeff: I like how the Warriors represent all the corners of the Marvel Universe.
NickZ: New Warriors is really filling the void left by Young Avengers for a young, adventurous, and super-fun team book!

The Punisher #4 (Marvel)
Jeff: I was just about ready to drop this until I saw the person on the last page.

Quantum and Woody #9 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: I’m still not sold on the excitement about this but I did like this issue.
Jeff Lake: Woody, Woody, Woody…when will you learn? Nice to see the book take a step back after nonstop adventuring.

Pretty Deadly #5 (Image)
Dr. Bustos: That felt like a dream sequence but I can’t wait for more.

Red Sonja #8 (Dynamite)
Jeff Lake: This arc should be titled “Sonja’s Quest to Get Some.” Simone’s characterization is top notch.

Revelations #4 (BOOM!)
Jeff: Charlie gets a little something something, but his buddy doesn’t fare so well at the end.

Self-Obsessed #1 (Image)
NickZ: If you are into interesting, fun, semi-autiobiograical comic tales, this books is more than worth the price of admission. It’s everything about Sina Grace you never knew, you always wanted.

She-Hulk #3 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: Gotta love the adventures can have just trying to get to a court date.

Trinity of Sin: Phantom Stranger #18 (DC)
Martin:4/5 stars. Nice to get back to basics now that Blight is over. New arc w/ Superman, Zauriel, & Doc 13

Turok: Dinosaur Hunter #3 (Dynamite)
Infinite Speech: It’s got dinosaurs in it, people! DINOSAURS!!

ultimate comics spider man 200Ultimate Spider-Man #200 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: A touching memorial to be a part of.
Jeff: The perfect way to remember Ultimate Peter Parker in terms of story and art.
Infinite Speech: A nice way to cap off the ending to this fantastic series!

Veil #2 (Image)
Infinite Speech: This issue is definitely a 5 out of 5 right here!
Jeff Lake: Legitimately can’t decide if I like this book or not. Fejzula’s art is crazy weird, and the narrative is even weirder!
