Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 04/16/14

Amazing X-Men #6 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: The Nightcrawler family reunion continues and totally ruins a good party.
Jeff: Why does everyone show up to Kurt’s welcome back party in costume?
NickZ: It was so great to see ALL the X-Men together for a good occasion. Am I the only one dying for an Excalibur reunion?

american vampire vol 2 #2American Vampire: Second Cycle #2 (Vertigo)
Arnab: One word: AMAZING!
Infinite Speech: Okay, I’m hooked!
Jeff: This was the creepiest issue of AmVam ever.

Batman #30 (DC)
Arnab: I can admit when I’m wrong and boy was I wrong. I thought Zero Year would be a hot mess, but this issue has proven that it is anything but.
Infinite Speech: Snyder & Capullo are the perfect duo for this title!
Jeff: Gotham City is the worst place ever.
Jeff Lake: The Snyder/Capullo/Miki trifecta is one of the best in comics. I’d buy issue 30 for the art alone.
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. I was a bit hesitant when I heard about Zero Year but @Ssnyder1835 & @GregCapullo turn in yet another masterpiece.
NickZ: I don’t know how they do it, but Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Danny Miki, and FCO Plascencia have created another masterpiece with this issue.

Batman & Wonder Woman #30 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. While this was a missed opportunity to show Bruce & Diana’s relationship, the art choices were fun.
NickZ: I always find Batman and Wonder Woman an odd pairing that always pays off. It’s like they are so different that they actually work.

Batman Eternal #2 (DC)
Arnab: From the minute that figure appeared in the shadows I called it, but it was still oh so good.
Jeff Lake: Can I REALLY commit to a weekly series? Issue 2 certainly pushed me in that direction. Color me interested.
Martin: 4/5 stars. Even more than the 1st issue, this one has me intrigued. So many character introductions, though.
NickZ: Nice to see the Bat-family rallying around Jim in his current situation.

Executive Assistant: Iris #4 (Aspen)
Infinite Speech: Nothing like a beheading to spice up an issue!

five weapons 8Five Weapons #8 (Image)
Infinite Speech: The origin of Featherwind and Enrique is still two steps behind Tyler’s plans and Robinson keeps it awesome!

Frankenstein Alive, Alive! #3 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: The best drawn book out this week…hands down, up or even side to side!

Hulk #1 (Marvel)
Jeff: Nice recovery on this book! Waid and Bagley are a great team!

Justice League #29 (DC)
Jeff Lake: I’ve thought it before, but this issue solidified it; the Metal Men need their own monthly. Do it, Johns!
Martin: 4/5 stars. I’ve been loving the Metal Men stuff in this book. But… um… we’re STILL on Forever Evil? Wrap it up!
NickZ: Never been a big fan of Cyborg or the Metal Men but after this issue, my opinion has changed, on the Metal Men that is.

Ms. Marvel #3 (Marvel)
Jeff: In the grand tradition of “super-heroes with real-life problems,” Ms. Marvel is just a wonderfully fun and relevant comic.

Nova #16 (Marvel)
Jeff: This story seemed to drag on a little too long.

Red Hood and the Outlaws #30 (DC)
Arnab: I really wish this book would continue to stay out of Gotham’s problems and focus on other parts of the world/universe.
Infinite Speech: This is the most unpredictable title in the New 52 and that’s a great thing!
NickZ: I think this book needs to reel back in from the use of magics, and space, and aliens, and get back grounded into “real life”.

shotgun wedding 3Shotgun Wedding #3 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech: Never. EVER. Leave a woman at the alter guys. EVER.

Sinestro #1 (DC)
Infinite Speech: My interest is piqued now can it be sustained over the next few issues.
Jeff Lake: A bit tame perhaps, but filled with promise. Art by Eaglesham sure is purty.

Smallville Lantern #1 (DC)
NickZ: The Green Lantern Corps finally makes it’s debut in the Smallville-verse with a twist of course. Glad that they chose John Stewart as the current GL but still gave mention to all the others.

The Star Wars #7 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: Still great and still something that every Star Wars fan needs in their collection!
Jeff: Forget Ewoks, I want Wookies on my team against the Empire.
Martin: 4/5 stars. The art in this thing is just amazing. As a Star Wars fan for the past 37 years, this is a real treat.

Superior Spider-Man #31 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Not the ending I expected but a very satisfying one nonetheless! I’m so gonna miss Spidey-Ock!
Jeff: A very Inferior ending to a mostly Superior series.
NickZ: I am so sad to see this series end. I was one of the few who loved Doc Ock Spidey better than Peter Spidey. I blame the movie for bringing this adventure to an end before it’s time.

Thor: God of Thunder #21 (Marvel)
Jeff: I don’t get the connection between King Thor vs. Galactus and present Thor getting sued.

Trinity of Sin: Pandora #10 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. I’m glad the bloated Blight story arc is over, but now I realize that I just don’t like Pandora.

uncanny xmen 20Uncanny X-Men #20 (Marvel)
Arnab: All hail Cyclops, the greatest mutant leader of all time! #teamcyclops
Infinite Speech: I like the spy/thriller feel this series has been shifting towards lately.
Jeff: So glad they explained how Blob got repowered.
NickZ: Scott Summers is such a badass! Maria Hill’s love?/hate relationship with him is my new favorite thing.

Wolverine & the X-Men #3 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: This used to be my favorite X title. What the heck happened??
Jeff: What is this book?
NickZ: I love how this series is brining the Phoenix, Apocalypse, and the Askani all together.

Wonder Woman #30 (DC)
NickZ: This book is so amazing that it feels like it’s a Marvel book! Yes, THAT GOOD!

X-Force #3 (Marvel)
Arnab: This book is terrible. Bring back Cable and the X-Force please.
Infinite Speech: And I shall read this title no more until I’m told it’s better or “Meme” is gone. I don’t see either happening any time soon though.Thanks.
NickZ: This book is so crappy that it feels like it’s a DC book! Yes, THAT AWFUL!

X-Men #13 (Marvel)
Arnab: Bromo-Superior! Honestly, I just really like Hellion.
Infinite Speech: This issue is a step in the right direction with both stories being equally entertaining! MORE ROCKSLIDE!!!
Jeff: I don’t think anyone’s ever gotten shot in an X-Men baseball game.
NickZ: The ladies are having a lot of drama, but how amazing was that back up story “Bromo-Superior”! I can’t wait for more of this!

X-O Manowar #23 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech:
Nice lead in to Armor Wars!
