Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 03/26/14

Adventure of Superman #11 (DC)
NickZ: This series works so well because the stories always focus on Superman’s most interesting qualities, his morality and humanity.

All New Ghost Rider #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Okay, not a bad start so I’ll see where this goes for a bit.

all new xfactor 5All-New X-Factor #5 (Marvel)
Arnab: This book is excellent. Peter David has already proven he can do team books and with this series, he’s pretty much just showing off.
Infinite Speech: It hasn’t happened in while but I officially like an X-Factor title!
Jeff: This book just doesn’t work for  me. I don’t really care about any of the characters.
NickZ: Peter David has already crafted such an intriguing web of sub-plots in this book. I am 100% onboard.

Amazing X-Men #5 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: Having Nightcrawler return in a Voltron-type way, yay!
Infinite Speech: Nightcrawler is officially back!
Jeff: Nightcrawler is officially alive again, but at a horrible cost. Well done, Aaron & McGuinness.
NickZ: It’s been such a long time since an X-Men book felt so fun and carefree while still remaining somewhat grounded. The final reveal is a really interesting turn to happen to Nightcrawler of all people.

A+X #18 (Marvel)
NickZ: I’m so glad this book is over. The only good thing to come from this was that Cap finally admitted that he doesn’t believe Cyclops is guilty of murdering Professor X anymore.

Avengers #27 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Way too many Avengers in this title but still worth checking out.

Batman the Dark Knight #29 (DC)
Arnab: Batman almost died and he had no backup and the art was not great. Not a good last issue.
NickZ: There seems to be an abundance of Man-Bats in the Bat-books these days, but at least this one challenged Batman to think outside the box to defeat him.

Blackout #1 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: It’s great when the first issue pays off!

The Bunker #2 (Oni Press)
Jeff Lake: This series is awesome. Infurnari’s art is so bizarre, yet it works so well.

Catwoman #29 (DC)
NickZ: I love the concept for this story and even I was surprised by who was behind it all. The ending played out so perfectly though.

DC Universe vs Masters of the Universe #6 (DC)
Infinite Speech: I had fun and that’s what it’s all about!

Dead Body Road #4 (Image)
Arnab: The car chase in this book is amazing. Mateo Scalera is a beast.
Jeff Lake: Four issues in and still haven’t gotten far. That said, Scalera’s car chase sequence is killer.

Deadly Class #4 (Image)
Jeff Lake: If you can only pick up one book this week, make it Deadly Class. Top notch in every way.
NickZ: Remender and Craig are doing a fantastic job on this book. It’s funny, it’s dark, and always compelling. I can’t recommend it enough

Deadpool #26 (Marvel)
Arnab: Cable and Deadpool, together again!
NickZ: Another great “lost issue”. In this one, Deadpool and Nick Fury fight a time traveling Hitler, hijinks ensue.

Eternal Warrior #7 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: HAHAHAHA! They were holding the guns..BACKWARDS!! LMAO!!

Fatale #21 (Image)
Dr. Bustos: We’re coming closer to the end and the dread is rising.

The Flash #29 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. This is a perfectly good comic book but compared to the earlier Buccellato/Manapul run, it’s not quite up to par.

Forever Evil: A.R.G.U.S. #6 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. As a non-reader of Team 7 or Suicide Squad, I enjoyed this deeper look into the DCU’s secret history.

Forever Evil: Rogues Rebellion #6 (DC)
Arnab: When are the Rogues getting their own book?
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. My favorite Forever Evil tie-in has a great ending & leaves me wanting a solo Rogues book.

Ghostbusters #14 (IDW)
Arnab: C’Mon, so good.
Infinite Speech: This series just keeps getting better and better!

Ghost Rider #1 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: I’m actually super excited for a Ghost Rider series, this is great.

guardians 13Guardians of the Galaxy #13 (Marvel)
Arnab: I was really hoping Laura would go with Scott, oh well. Jean grey’s new powers? Awesome. Kitty and Peter? I ship it.
Infinite Speech: Jean has reached the final level and now has The Glow! Only fans of The Last Dragon will get that joke.
Jeff: Scott’s departure seemed rather shoehorned, but other than that, this was great.
NickZ: Everything was great, from Jean Grey’s new power use to Kitty and Peter’s kiss. But Cyclops leaving with his dad made no sense and was just stupid.

Hawkeye #18 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: I thought he was a figment of her imagination now I’m sad that’s all he may get to be now.
NickZ: Kate tries to solve a case and help a guy, but only makes it worse for everyone involved. Seems pretty par for the course.

Indestructible Hulk #20 (Marvel)
Jeff: I was just about to drop this book when I got to the last page.

Iron Patriot #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Nice start, now let’s see if Rhodey gets something worth reading 10 issues from now.
Jeff: I think Rhodey is one of the most boring characters in the Marvel Universe, and this book keeps that tradition alive.

Justice League Dark #29 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. Sadly, the Blight story ends with a whimper. Zatanna’s return is cool but Constantine feels “off.”

The Manhattan Projects #19 (Image)
Arnab: Oh man, plot twist. So good.
Dr. Bustos: Aww, I figured something like this would happen but I was hoping it wouldn’t.

Marvel Knights X-Men #5 (Marvel)
NickZ: I have to give kudos to Brahm Revel on this book, doing both the story and the art! This series had an unusual feel for an X-Book but it worked.

New Avengers #16 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: So…did anyone else catch the nod to a certain publisher’s team of heroes?

Origin II #4 (Marvel)
NickZ: Gillen and Kubert are telling a great story here that is told more visually then through dialogue. The less is more strategy works really well and Adam Kubert easily pulls it off with his great art.

Private Eye #6 (Panel Syndicate)
Jeff: I think it would be best to stop reading this until all the issues come out, then read in its entirety.

Rachel Rising #24 (Abstract Studios)
Jeff: That snake gives me nightmares.

Real Heroes #1 (Image)
Jeff Lake: Galaxy Quest meets Avengers; the premise is solid, hopefully it holds up.

Sandman Overture #2 (Vertigo)
Martin: 5/5 stars. I can’t express how awesome the art & creative layouts are in this book. Art & story in perfect harmony.

Savage Wolverine #16 (Marvel)
Jeff: The number of people who get brutally shot in this issue is staggering.
NickZ: This is probably one of the most horrible/tragic books i’ve read in a while. Just death everywhere!

Sex #12 (Image)
NickZ: Dang, Keenan is a beast! Take a beat down, beat a guy 3 times your size, then go home and sex up your lady! BEAST!

Silver Surfer #1 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: Love the art and the feel is fun, has a Doctor Who vibe if you like that.
Infinite Speech: Gave it a shot but wasn’t for me.
Jeff: I just couldn’t finish this.

Skull Kickers #25 (Image)
Infinite Speech: So glad these guys are back to make me laugh!
NickZ: So glad to have more awesomely, hilarious Skull Kickers to read. Jim Zub and Edwin Huang don’t disappoint!

Star Wars: Legacy #13 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: Bechko & Hardman will make you love this era of Star Wars even more!

The Superior Spider-Man #30 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: I thought that was going to take longer.
Infinite Speech: Dan Slott better make me really like Peter coming back because I’m gonna miss Otto.
Jeff: That better not be the end of Otto.
NickZ: Damn you, Dan Slott! I was not ready for this issue and all these feels!

Superior Spider-Man Team-Up #11 (Marvel)
NickZ: This was a great look at Doctor Octopus and Green Goblin’s interesting relationship. Can’t wait to see the conclusion.

Survive #1 (Marvel)
Jeff: In case you were wondering, this is an Ultimate book.

Talon #17 (DC)
Martin:3.5/5 stars. Another end to another book that had a lot of promise. Some interesting stuff but no major revelations or next steps.
NickZ: It would seem Calvin has once again found some form of freedom from the Court of Owls, we’ll see how long it lasts this time.

Teen Titans #29 (DC)
Arnab: Reboot please.
NickZ: Can this entire team just be retcon punched out of existence?

Uncanny Avengers #18 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: I wish this was the status quo of the Marvel U now!
Jeff: What the hell is going on in this book??? So frustrating!
NickZ: So how much of this book, if any is even gonna matter in the end?

the wake 7The Wake #7 (Vertigo)
Arnab: Amazing. Flipping awesome.
Jeff: I did not see that ending coming, but absolutely loved it!
Jeff Lake: What the H-E-double hockey sticks just happened? Seriously, tripping out a bit. So good!
Martin: 4/5 stars. Great art & coloring as the story moves into Part 3. See my full review on @ComicAttack later this week.
NickZ: This series started out great and just gets better and better.

The Walking Dead #124 (Image)
Arnab: Who’s going to die?
Jeff: This story has been dragging on, and I’m ready for the conclusion.
NickZ: I’m nervously optimistic about how this war is going to end.

Worlds’ Finest #21 (DC)
Martin: n/a. Seriously… Part 4 of 4 and yet Part 3 isn’t coming out for another 3 weeks? Lame. So, I didn’t read this yet.
