Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 02/04/15

Action Comics #39 (DC)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. The latest arc wraps & it’s spot-on in terms of characterization, & introduces a new take on an old villain.

All-New Captain America: Fear Him #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Kudransky’s art saved this one but there’s too many Scarecrow characters in comics w/ fear based abilities.

american vampire 6 American Vampire: Second Cycle #6 (Vertigo)
Arnab: The vampires are back in action!
Infinite Speech:
This issue sets up the next arc and there’s a zombie elephant! Yeah, I didn’t expect that one either.

Angela: Asgard’s Assassin #3 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Angela gets a new, more practical costume in another great story!

Angel & Faith #11 (Dark Horse)
NickZ: Looks like everyone is stopping by Magic Town. Lots of great reunions.

Ant-Man #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: I’ve had too much humble pie already so I’ll just say that you should read this.

Avengers #41 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: I’m going to need Namor to die. Seriously this time.

Batman: Detective Comics #39 (DC)
Arnab: It’s almost like this book is too pretty for Gotham.
Martin:
4/5 stars. Top quality art, and I continue to like the more detective-vibe in this story arc.
NickZ: The only partnership in this book better than Batman and Bullock’s is Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato’s!

Batman Eternal #44 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. Some of the art is good but many characters are unrecognizable, & I swear that “bad guy” came out of nowhere.
NickZ: After last week’s great issue, this one just feels like filler.

Cluster #1 (BOOM!)
Infinite Speech: I guess prisoners being relocated to an alien planet is hot right now.

Earth 2 #31 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. One of the better issues of this series for a while, with great focus on Dr. Fate and “Aquawoman” for a change.

Earth 2 World’s End #18 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Great art, especially the scenes with Thomas & Helena Wayne, but too much repetition from last week.

East of West #east of west 1717 (Image)
Arnab: Death’s child is going to be a problem, I can feel it.
Martin: 4/5 stars. Still one of the best alternate-history post-apocalyptic Westerns about the 4 Horsemen that money can buy.

Ghost Fleet #4 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: Each issue has been better than the last and this one is no different!

Goon: Once Upon a Hard Time #1 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: Damn, I really feel sorry for Goon.

Grayson #7 (DC)
Arnab: I am loving this book, so much. Also really dig Midnighter
NickZ: This is obviously the set up for Midnighter’s new series.

Guardians of the Galaxy & X-Men: The Black Vortex Alpha #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: The celestial that looks like Apocalypse was the highlight of the issue.
NickZ: This book was really fun. I’m looking forward to this cross over with all these crazy characters.

Hawkeye #21 (Marvel)
NickZ: Fraction and Aja really upped the feels level to “scream out loud NO” in the penultimate chapter of their Hawkguy opus!

Imperium #1 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Bit of a slow start but a very strong issue for Harada fans!

Lady Demon #2 (Dynamite)
Infinite Speech: Well, that escalated pretty quickly! Great cliffhanger!

Lady Killer #2 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: It’s criminal how great this series looks and how awesome the story is!

Nameless #1 (Image)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Some really interesting ideas but a bit too early to see where it’s going. Burnham’s art’s the perfect accompaniment

New 52 Futures End #40 (DC)saga 25
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Some really good art, and we finally get a glimpse of what’s actually going on with the story.

New Zodiax #1 (Astronaut Ink)
Infinite Speech: Joe St. Pierre knocks it out with this hacktivist action story with a great new hero!

Oddly Normal #5 (Image)
Infinite Speech: There’s no reason why you shouldn’t be reading this especially if you have kids! Art and story are just pure comic fun!
NickZ: If you like fun, then don’t miss this all-ages gem!

Robocop #8 (BOOM!)
Infinite Speech: Williamson is delivering the BEST Robocop in years!

Saga #25 (Image)
Arnab: Years?!? Years?!? How can he keep them apart for years?
Infinite Speech: So glad Saga is back and still impressive after so long!
NickZ: Another masterpiece of an issue delivered in an amazing wrap-around exterior!

Spawn #250 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Al Simmons has returned in one of the best comebacks in comics!

Star Wars #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Not that impressed with this issue.
NickZ: I had hoped that this Star Wars comic wouldn’t be good (one less comic to buy) but with the team of Jason Aaron & John Cassaday, I should have known better.

Superman #38 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Somewhere a DBZ is laughing that Superman now has the same power as Krillin.
Martin: 4/5 stars. The post-battle stuff makes this story good. Plus some cool Jimmy Olsen scenes & John Romita Jr. draws Batman.

Velvet #9 (Image)xo manowar 33
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. Brubaker really knows his way around the spy genre & Velvet Templeton is 1 of the best female characters in comics.

Wolverines #5 (Marvel)
NickZ: Clones, clones, and more clones, but what else would you expect when you enter the house of Sinister.

The Woods #10 (Boom)
NickZ: Many questions get answered and some major S*** is about to go down!

Wytches #4 (Image)
NickZ: I love that the scariest thing about Wytches is not actually the Wytches themselves (Jock does drawn them pretty horrifying tho), but the fact that it’s our own real fears that give them power over us.

X-O Manowar #33 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Veditti and Sandoval continue to show why X-O Manowar is a top tier title you should be reading!
