Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 01/08/14

CHIRPBANNER1Action Comics #27 (DC)
Martin: Simply fantastic – Pak has made made interested in Superman again for the 1st time in a long time.

Adventure TIme: The Flip Side #1 (Boom!)
NickZ: Great story so far, just not feeling the art.

Afterlife With Archie #3 (Archie)
Infinite Speech: Never thought horror in Riverdale could be so awesome!

All-New Marvel Now Point One #1 (Marvel)
Jeff: Get this only for Phil Noto’s Black Widow intro.

anxf 1All-New X-Factor #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Didn’t hate it but it didn’t blow me away either. But I will give it a couple more issues to wow me.
Jeff: So Gambit leaves the X-Men because he gets scolded by Wolverine and then joins a corporation? It would have made more sense to blackmail him into it.
NickZ: Peter David has done it again! Can’t wait to see how these mutant sell outs fair.

A+X #16 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Is there any reason for this series to have continued this long?
NickZ: Now they are doing flashback stories? Ugh. Well at least Cap didn’t mention Cyclops killing Xavier for once.

Aphrodite IX #7 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech: So now we know where the Coin of Solomon is!

Avengers World #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Hickman & Spencer have my attention which isn’t hard when Caselli is drawing the book!
Jeff: I really don’t like this team of Avengers, but Caselli’s art makes it hard not to read.

Batman: Detective Comics #27 (DC)
Arnab: An excellent anniversary issue to one of the greatest comic book characters to have ever been created.
Martin: Fun anniversary issue w/ some great stories. I particularly liked the Adams, Snyder, & Barr ones.
NickZ: Many great mini adventures in this 75th anniversary issue of DC greatest character. I’d say it was well worth the eight bucks.

Batman/Superman #7 (DC)
NickZ: Superman actually used his brain to win for once? Wow.

Batwing #27 (DC)
NickZ: Interesting to see what the “perfect” future is for each of these characters.

Black Widow #1 (Marvel)
Jeff: Finally, Edmonson and Noto have unlocked Black Widow’s true potential. This book is hot!
Jeff Lake: A solid debut made better by Phil Noto’s amazing art. With direction it could be great.

Cable & X-Force #18 (Marvel)
Jeff: It’s about time Hope went after Bishop, but I have a feeling they’re going to completely retcon Bishop’s dastardly actions.
NickZ: What do you know, more X-Men fighting X-Men. And how many times can THAT villain keep coming back?

Cataclysm: Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #3 (Marvel)
Jeff: Marquez’s depiction of Miles’ dad’s face as he realizes what he thinks his son has done as Spider-Man is perfect.

deadpool 22Deadpool #22 (Marvel)
NickZ: Deadpool and Phil Coulson, most unlikely team-up ever.

Fantomex Max #4 (Marvel)
NickZ: This series was just strange and unnecessary.

Forever Evil: Arkham War #4 (DC)
NickZ: Bat-Bane and Tal-Robin make quick work of the Arkham crazies. Let’s see if the Talons can even the score.

Green Arrow #27 (DC)
Arnab: Probably the best issue of Lemire’s run.
Martin:
The Outsiders War gets off to a great start w/ island flashbacks, a Katana cameo, & fantastic Sorrentino art.

Injustice: Gods Among Us – Year Two #1 (DC)
Infinite Speech: It’s a solid tie in for those who want to go deeper in the video game story.

Invincible Universe #9 (Image)
NickZ: There is always something darker lurking in these stories, which make the victories only temporary.

Marvel Knights: Spider-Man #4 (Marvel)
NickZ: One of the most mind tripping Spider-Man books in recent history. It’s good though, so far.

Painkiller Jane: The Price of Freedom #3 (Icon)
Infinite Speech: Why didn’t I read this series years ago? Just frackin’ great!

Revolutionary War #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Bolloks.

Savage Wolverine #14.NOW (Marvel)
Jeff: If you don’t want to get bogged down in Wolverine continuity, and just want a really beautifully done Wolverine story, jump onto this issue.
NickZ: A surprisingly interesting story from a time in Wolverine’s past we haven’t really seen.

sex c 4Sex Criminals #4 (Image)
Arnab: This book is freaking fantastic.
Jeff Lake:
I’d love to spend a day in Fraction’s dirty but beautiful mind. New twists and turns aplenty as we get to the criminal side of things.
Infinite Speech:
Still one of my favorite new titles!

Shadowman #14 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: This is one intense title and it’s only getting better!

Smallville: Alien #2 (DC)
NickZ: The Smallville comic universe is the best Superman universe currently in comics!

Star Wars #13 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: A lot of faces were harmed in the making of this book.

Quantum and Woody #7 (Valiant)
Jeff Lake: I can’t recommend this series enough. This issue is hilarious, though the art takes a noticeable dip.

The Walking Dead #119 (Image)
Arnab: There’s a large part of me who just thinks that 12 issues is a long time for an arc.
Jeff
: A bit of a flashback to the Governor’s invasion, but Negan has other tricks up his sleeve.
NickZ: Kirkman continues to build up the drama of this “All Out War” and we are left on the edge of our collective seats.

Wolverine #13 (Marvel)
NickZ: This maybe Sabretooth’s greatest victory over Wolverine. I can’t wait to see what happens with this broken Logan.

Young Avengers #15 (Marvel)
Arnab: I just want more Wiccan, Hulkling, and Tommy.
NickZ:
A great end to a great series. Thanks for the memories and all the feels. Gillen is the future of comics.
