Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 11/20/13

Adventure Time #22 (Boom!)
NickZ: Can Jake and Finn save the Candy Kingdom from mind controlling gum? Yes, it’s as awesome as it sounds.

Afterlife With Archie #2 (Archie)
Infinite Speech: I underestimated this book too. Don’t make the same mistake I did!

A+X #14 (Marvel)
NickZ: I know they played it up for comedic effect, but Magneto was way out of character in this one and can someone please hit Captain America up side his obnoxious, self-ritous head, already?!?

Batman and Robin #25 (DC)
Martin: Once again, Two-Face plays 2nd-fiddle to the highly uninteresting Erin McKillen. Origin change unncessary.
NickZ: It’s always a good time when Matches Malone shows up and what about that two-faced bat signal!

Birds of Prey #25 (DC)
NickZ: Good “Zero Year” issue showcasing Black Canary’s origin.

Brain Boy #3 (Dark Horse)
Jeff: R. B. Silva is a fantastic artist, and I hope to see more of his work!

Buzzkill #3 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: Holy crap this is a great series and I totally didn’t see that coming!
Jeff: This is just too good to be a limited series. I hope it continues beyond this series with this creative team!
Jeff Lake: Dr. Blaqk is pretty much the best hero ever. Definitely well worth a read.

cable 16Cable and X-Force #16 (Marvel)
Arnab: Seriously one of Marvel’s best books.
Infinite Speech: Why can’t the other X-Force book be this good?
Jeff: I have never liked the Adversary and the Reavers have never been much of a viable threat, so this story isn’t doing much for me.
NickZ: This book just gets better and better. The Q reference from Star Trek: The Next Generation was perfect.

Eternal Warrior #3 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Never thought I’d like the Eternal Warrior this much! Such a great series!

Forever Evil: Rogues Rebellion #2 (DC)
Martin: Repeats a long section from Forever Evil 3, then jumps to featuring two other villains.

Harley Quinn #0 (DC)
Infinite Speech: This was just a fun introduction
Martin: A lot of fun visually with some great references to older storylines & creators. Nice way to kick-off the series.
NickZ: Very entertaining issue with great art and great jokes! Had a very Deadpool feel to it with Harley breaking the fourth wall and all.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe #8 (DC)
Infinite Speech: I guess they just let anybody draw this book now. Love the story though.

Imagine Agents #2 (BOOM! Studios)
Infinite Speech: You should pick this up and have as much fun as I am with this title!
Jeff: This is such a great little concept. Good story, good art, great comic!
Jeff Lake: A bit busy at times, but quite fun. Anyone prone to daydreaming will love this book.

Indestructible Hulk #15 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: That was a fun way to end a wild time travel adventure. Punch your way though time.
Jeff: I’m pretty sure you had to be as smart as Bruce Banner to understand what happened in this issue.

jinrise 8Jinrise #8 (Aspen)
Infinite Speech: Glad I took a chance on this series and I’m still liking it!

Kiss Me Satan #3 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: Damn, that was intense!
Jeff: If you don’t like things touching your eyeball, then don’t read this comic. Ouch!

Longshot Save the Marvel Universe #2 (Marvel)
Arnab: Dude, Jacopo Camagni draws one sexy Longshot.
NickZ: I am loving the ridiculousness of this book. A very fun title to be sure. Pick it up for the Dazzler and Longshot interaction alone.

Rachel Rising #21 (Abstract Studios)
Jeff: Terry Moore can do so much with so few words. The second half of this issue is just masterful.

Red Hood and the Outlaws #25 (DC)
Arnab: Jeremy Haun draws an amazing Jason Todd. He should be on this book permanently.
Infinite Speech: A solid Zero Year tie in that focuses on Jason Todd
NickZ: Witness Jason’s first encounters with Talia, the Joker, and the idea of being the Red Hood!

Samurai Jack #2 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: Makes me miss the cartoon that much more but Zub is doing a great job!

Secret Avengers #11 (Marvel)
Jeff: This issue was terrible…I could barely make it through. I want to go back to AIM island and Mockingbird!

sex 3Sex Criminals #3 (Image)
Arnab: This book is ridiculously awesome.
Dr. Bustos: For a book with such a high concept, this thing has some of the most earnest views on love, sex, and romance.
Jeff Lake: This may be the most disgustingly lovely love story in comics. Fraction + Zdarsky = win.
NickZ: You are doing yourself a disservice if you are an adult and youare not reading this book from cover to cover (literally)!

Supergirl #25 (DC)
NickZ: The battle for the fate of the universe and Krypton continues as Supergirl’s, Superboy’s, and Superman’s missions begin to overlap.

ssm a 1The Superior Spider-Man Annual #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Uh oh! Aunt May has seen the brutality of the Superior Spider-Man and things can only get worse!
Jeff: Geez, what Otto does to Blackout is pretty hardcore.
NickZ: Aunt May relationship with both the “new” Peter and the Superior Spider-Man takes center stage in this Annual.

Superior Spider-Man Team-Up #6 (Marvel)
NickZ: Spider-Man’s manipulation of the Sinister Six is about to bite him in the a$$. I think we all saw this coming.

Todd: The Ugliest Kid on Earth #7 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Hilarious as usual but not for the sensitive reader.

Trinity of Sin: Pandora #5 (DC)
Martin: Pandora’s origins re-told by the Outsider. Lots of it makes more sense than her actual origin.

Uncanny X-Men #14 (Marvel)
Arnab: This is one of the best single issues about a new character I’ve ever read.
Infinite Speech: Nice focus on one of the newer X-Men and felt like an old school issue that was just FUN!
Jeff: That cover may be one of the best covers of the year. Bachalo is so awesome!
NickZ: What this series succeeded with in this one issue is what others have been trying (and failing) to do in the entire series of Wolverine and the X-Men.

wake 5The Wake #5 (Vertigo)
Arnab: Hot damn dignity! This just got [even more] interesting!
Jeff: Ok, so now what is this book going to be about?
Jeff Lake: Interesting end to part 1. Snyder and Murphy have done well so far; can they keep it up?
NickZ: WOW! Did not see this transition coming. Seems like it’s going to be a totally different book for here on out. Can’t wait to see what Snyder has in store for us!

Wolverine Max #13 (Marvel)
NickZ: Wolverine regains much of his forgotten memories and then does what he does best, kills a lot of people.

Wonder Woman #25 (DC)
NickZ: I’m actually starting to like Hera! I can’t believe they all trusted Strife, though, and don’t get me started on the cannibal scene! GROSS!

X-Men #7 (Marvel)
Arnab: Terry and Rachel Dodson were born to illustrate the X-Men, especially the X-Women.
Infinite Speech: Great way to bring back Lady Deathstrike and Monet has returned as well!
Jeff: This confirms my suspicion that Brian Wood’s books are only good if he has a good artist with him. Welcome back to the X-Men, Dodsons!
NickZ: I think Monet is going to make a great addition to the team especially with Jubilee around too.

X-Men Legacy #20 (Marvel)
NickZ: David seems to have finally figured out how to get his mind back together, I hope it lasts.

Young Avengers #12 (Marvel)
Arnab:
If Billy and Teddy don’t get back together there will be riots in the street.
NickZ: This team is great but I hope this story with Mother ends soon.
