Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 11/16/2011

Amazing Spider-Man #674 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: This issue sets up the next arc and from the looks of things Spidey will be getting his ass kicked real soon.
Jeff: It’s amazing how a different artist can change the way I feel about a comic. I think if Ramos or Caselli had drawn this, I would have liked it much more.

Avengers #19 (Marvel)
Andy: Daniel Acuna drawing Storm? More please!
Capekiller: I love issues dedicated to announcing new Avenger teams.  This team is pretty unique and has my favourite Avenger back on the roster.
Infinite Speech: What did the Black Panther say to Cap when asked to join the Avengers? Take my wife…please. And why was everyone so excited to see Vision when he was JUST at Bucky’s funeral which takes place before this?

Avengers Academy #22 (Marvel)
Andy: Looking forward to the upcoming change to the status quo. This book has been solid for almost 2 years straight, and it’s only going to get better!
Capekiller: This issue was supposed to be a character building story, but ultimately, I don’t think it had much purpose….
NickZ: This was a great Magneto/Quicksilver story and Hawkeye cracked me up a few times.

Batman #3 (DC)
Andy: Really, really wordy, but we’re finally getting some payoff. Hope an issue is coming out soon where Capullo can truly cut loose.
Arnab: The fact that more of us aren’t reading this book is a downright travesty. The Court of Owls is shaping up to be an amazing enemy for Batman and the life he’s created.
NickZ: Another excellent Batman issue by Snyder. I think this Owl guy is a great addition to the Batman rouges gallery.

Birds of Prey #3 (DC)
Andy: It’s ok. I like the art, but the story is your typical Birds tale. It was cool seeing what Poison Ivy is made of.
NickZ: This book is quickly losing favor with me, I hope that it gets better once Batgirl joins the team.

Blue Estate #7 (Image)
Andy: Any actor out there who read this issue had a great “LOL” moment. If you’re into crime fiction and satire, read this.

Butcher Baker, Candlestick Maker #5 (Dynamite)
Andy: Readers of The Boys get a crap load of answers in this issue. Stuff we’ve been waiting to find out about since the first storyline.

Captain America #4 (Marvel)
Andy: The best issue so far as things finally begin to heat up. Great take on what the “American Dream” has come to mean.

Captain Atom #3 (DC)
Andy: This book flew under my radar for awhile, but it’s become a surprise hit for me of the DCn52. This is J.T. Krul at his best.

Catwoman #3 (DC)
Andy: For all those people who ripped #1 to shreds, what do you think now? I think this series is only getting better and has great potential with this creative team.
Arnab: I love Selina Kyle and do not really enjoy seeing her be this miserable. That being said, her being miserable is done exceedingly well. Except of course for her facial expressions, those look weird.
NickZ: Best issue of this book so far! Had so much great stuff. The Batman/Catwoman scene on the rooftop was one of my favorites.

Deadpool #46 (Marvel)
NickZ: Pool vs. Evil Pool is really awesome! And now enter Captain America!

Deadpool Max II #2 (Marvel)
NickZ: Deadpool and Cable get high and play on a Ouija board. I’m not kidding.

Epoc #3 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech: The build up is killing me and we’ve only got 2 issues left so things better kick into overdrive real soon!

Fear Itself #7.3: Iron Man (Marvel)
Andy: The best issue Matt Fraction has written with “Fear Itself” in the title. You get your Grey Gargoyle resolution here, and it’s a doozy.
Arnab: I don’t care for Iron Man, that being said, this issue was well done.

Fear Itself: The Fearless #3 (Marvel)
Andy: I want to like it. I want to get into it. But it’s just not happening.
Arnab: Maybe it’s because I have no history with these characters, but these Avengers seem like assholes.

Generation Hope #13 (Marvel)
Arnab: Slowly by slowly I’m beginning to dislike Hope less and less. Of course that doesn’t mean I’m not amused when she thinks she’s all knowing and inevitably leads her troops into danger.
Capekiller: Nice to see Hope’s team get their asses kicked and to see them out actually looking for new mutants now.
Jeff: Asmus and Roberson have given this book jolt of awesomeness it really needed!
NickZ: And the lesson today kids, no matter how old he may look, you don’t F*@# with Magneto.

Green Lantern Corps #3 (DC)
Andy: A whole lotta fluff. Hopefully, John Stewart will do something significant soon. I mean, it’s not like he’s ex-military or anything…

Hawken #1 (IDW)
Andy: If you call yourself a Western fan and didn’t pick this up, I challenge your fandom. This is Tim Truman kicking ass in the Wild West with a touch of horror.

The Incredible Hulk #2 (Marvel)
Andy: It’s pretty good, but not the home run we were pitched. Getting sick of Bruce and Betty being so petty, but it will be interesting to see “Savage” Hulk play out his role.

Justice League #3 (DC)
Andy: For the first time in years, Justice League is worthy of being DC’s flagship title once again.
Arnab: Eh, it was all right. There’s a whole lotta action, very little story. This book is moving a tad too slow for me.
Infinite Speech: It’s good to know that even in the “New 52” I still think Hal Jordan is a waste of space and an ass! Great issue otherwise.
NickZ: Yes! Yes! YES! This is the Justice League I’ve been waiting for! Reminded me of the animated series.

Morning Glories #14 (Image)
Jeff: Having people squish you with giant stones really sucks.

Mud Man #1 (Image)
Andy: The storytelling in the art wasn’t easy to follow, but I really like Paul Grist’s mission statement. Because of that, I’ll stick around for awhile.
Infinite Speech: A super hero book that knows how to have fun with the genre!

New Mutants #34 (Marvel)
Capekiller: If Abnett and Lanning don’t fix this book soon, I’m going to send them back to space myself!
Jeff: With the string of Marvel cancellations recently, I am wondering why this one is still being published.
NickZ: I’ve always like Blink, I hope she joins the team.
Andy: Glad Moonstar’s back in the spotlight, but that’s about it.

Nightwing #3 (DC)
Arnab: Other than the fact that a part of me still roots for Dick and Barbara, and that five years is nonsense, this issue was fantastic fun.
NickZ: I could care less about this carny story.
Andy: The gigantic bearded lady at Mr. Haly’s funeral had me laughing my ass off.

Red Hood and the Outlaws #3 (DC)
Arnab: Scott Lobdell, Kenneth Rocafort, and Blond deliver issue after issue with an exciting story and gorgeous art to accompany it.
Infinite Speech: The sappy ending worked perfect to cap off a damn good issue!
NickZ: This series just gets better and better. Jason’s most cherished memory was great.

Severed #4
Arnab: No one is safe. That’s the message you leave with after reading this book. The brilliance behind this creative team is in their ability to leave you with an overwhelming sense of dread and horror.

Snake Eyes #7 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: An Eskimo named Kwinn, a mute ninja, and biological warfare! This series is nonstop fun for every Joe fan!

Supergirl #3 (DC)
NickZ: Kara should have listened to Superman. Looks like she is in some trouble now.

Thunderbolts #165 (Marvel)
Andy: And another great arc comes to a close in one of the best Marvel books nobody is reading…

Ultimate Comics X-Men #3 (Marvel)
Andy: True to Spencer’s style, this is a slow moving book leaving more dangling things than the men’s room at halftime. Like Morning Glories, it’s losing me…
Jeff: I’m riding the fence on this one. I’m so sick of Stryker as a character and I would love Spencer to do something original with him.

Valve Presents: The Sacrifice and other Steam Powered Stories (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: One of the best video game to comic adaptation anthologys ever to hit the shelves! And I mean EVER!

The Walking Dead #91 (Image)
Capekiller: You are losing me Mr. Kirkman…..
Arnab: 91 issues in and you know never to let your guard down, but even then you can’t help but worry every time a new character is introduced.
Jeff: I’m so glad they kept the romantic tension between Rick and Andrea. I’m suddenly sucked back in!
NickZ: Carl is a little jerk! I wish he did die. Looks like the gang is about to get a dangerous visitor or a cool new ally.
Andy: WTF? They would work great together…

Wolverine: The Best There Is #11
Capekiller: Sick puss filled art to accompany a macabre script.  Oh, I mean these things in the best possible way!
NickZ: Why am I still getting this book? For reals!

Wonder Woman #3 (DC)
NickZ: Talk about the mother of all daddy issues! If you ever were going to get into Wonder Woman, this is the book.

X-23 #17 (Marvel)
Arnab: Fantastic issue. It’s a shame this book is getting cancelled because issue after issue Marjorie Liu is writing the heck out of X-23. If you want a strong female character to follow, she’s it.
NickZ: Much better than the last story arc, and the art is AMAZING!

X-Factor #227 (Marvel)
Andy: Losing steam for me, but the new cast once “Regenesis” kicks in has me very excited.
Arnab: I’d recently been wondering when this would get brought up again. Now all we need is for Longshot to say, “Shatterstar, I am your father.”
Jeff: Whoa! PAD is the master of the double twist endings!
NickZ: OK, What the heck is going on?

X-Men #21 (Marvel)
Andy: Will Conrad is smokin’ the art on this book just like he did in X-23, and Victor Gischler is writing his best stuff since “Curse of the Mutants.”
Arnab: What do you get when you toss in Domino, Warpath, a whole mess of Sentinels, and a couple of other powerful mutants into one pot? This awesome book. I don’t care for War Machine, or whatever Iron Man part 2’s name is.
Capekiller: Espionage, Eastern European conspiracy and Warpath equal a pretty cool story within the Regenesis story arc.
Jeff: Will Conrad, thank you for drawing the X-Men so well.
NickZ: Not as great as the last issue but I am still loving this team of X-Men.
