Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 6/8/2011

15 Love #1 (Marvel)
Andy: I want to make fun of it, but it was actually a really enjoyable read. The fan service is a little out of control, though, which is uncomfortable.

American Vampire: Survival of the Fittest #1 (Vertigo)
Andy: Well, AV is proving many things about Scott Snyder, most notably that he’s a master storyteller. He’s tying everything together damn well.
Arnab: Fact. Scott Snyder can do no wrong. Fact. This issue was F’n brilliant.
Aron: Felicia Book is a BADASS! And, boy, does her gun go, POP! Anybody else catch the SWEET TOOTH Easter egg?
Jeff: This felt like the first 15 minutes of a really awesome movie! Immediate action, and the plot was set up nicely. Snyder can do no wrong with this franchise.

Batman and Robin #24 (DC)
Arnab: Great issue. Judd Winick writes Jason Todd like no other. Art sucked though.
NickZ: I like where this story is going but the change in artists from the last issue was not a welcome one.

Birds of Prey #13 (DC)
Arnab: A decent issue, not the bang I would have like to see Gail Simone leave on though.
NickZ: The Birds pretty much got thrashed, if not for Huntress, it could have been much worse.

Blue Estate #3 (Image)
Andy: This one should be read by every crime fiction fan. The Hollywood/LA setting creates great character, and the art sells it.

Booster Gold #45 (DC)
Andy: I never read much Booster until Generation Lost, and now this Flashpoint tie-in. I admit, I’m into it so far.

Caligula #2 (Avatar)
Andy: Haha! This series is nuts. HORSE NUTS!!
Aron: Oh, YUCK! I don’t think I’m gonna read #3 if THAT’S gonna happen! Damn you, Avatar!

Deadpool #38 (Marvel)
NickZ: Deadpool is such an idiot.

Doctor Who: A Fairytale Life #3 (IDW)
Aron: The Doctor is in rare form! A crackup! Also: Magic ducks are cool.

Fear Itself: Deadpool #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Meh. Another typical Deadpool book. If you like him you’ll love it, otherwise you’ll probably think it’s dumb. I’m somewhere in-between.
NickZ: This is exactly what you think it will be, stupid.

Fear Itself: Fearsome Four #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Yeah, I’ll pass on this one from here on out. The art changes killed it for me.

Fear Itself: Spider-Man #2 (Marvel)
Andy: The minor characters are more interesting than Spidey. It seems like he’s always bouncing around the city, saving people, and everyone hates him for it.

Flashpoint: Citizen Cold #1 (DC)
Andy: Woah! Is that character dead!?!?

Flashpoint: Deathstroke and the Curse of the Ravager #1 (DC)
Andy: Deathstroke as a pirate. How has this not been done before? Can’t wait to see the Flashpoint version of Ravager.

Flashpoint: Emperor Aquaman #1 (DC)
Andy: When it rains garbage, heads are gonna roll! Aquaman is one pissed off mofo. I wouldn’t mess with him…but where’s his seahorse?

Flashpoint: Frankenstein and the Creatures of the Unknown #1 (DC)
Andy: Who knew that this would be my favorite Flashpoint tie-in of the week? I sure didn’t!

Fly #1 (Zenescope)
Andy: Gregory packed enough punch in this issue to rope people in, and left enough unanswered questions to bring’em back for #2. Worth a shot.

Formic Wars: Burning Earth #6 (Marvel)
Andy: It’s ok. I want more action though and less talking. The world is being overrun by aliens, but instead of seeing that we get “gab, gab, gab.”

Ghost Rider #0.1 (Marvel)
Andy: Hunh. Maybe Ghost Rider doesn’t suck after all. Who knew?
Aron: Just like that, he’s done, huh? But, seriously…jump on this new series that hasn’t even started yet, that’s so far into continuity that it needs a 0.1!

Green Wake #3 (Image)
Andy: This one’s really meta and will play great in trade format as a collected story. Love Rossmo’s artwork. That guy’s style is damn cool.

Journey into Mystery #624 (Marvel)
Aron: That’s kinda like pitting mom against dad. This little Loki is nothing short in the trickster department! I like him.

Mega Man #2 (Archie)
Andy: YES!! I’m so pumped Mega Man is back in a comic book series! And it’s good too!!

Moriarty #2 (Image)
Andy: Wordy, but well worth the read. Great introduction of a classic Holmes character, too.

Morning Glories #10 (Image)
Jeff: So the reason Jade keeps dying is because she’s talking to her future self? Somehow, I really like that idea!

Mystery Men #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Wasn’t sure what to expect, and now I expect excellence. Reminds me of The Spirit. Patrick Zircher nicely set the mood, too.

Punisher MAX #14 (Marvel)
Andy: Aaron’s a bastard for what he puts his characters through. Holy hell. This series is the only Punisher book I look forward to.

Red Robin #24 (DC)
Arnab: Another excellent issue. DC’s making a big mistake not keeping this title around.
NickZ: Looks like it’s about to be sexy time for Tim. Also, more importantly, I WANT A TIM DRAKE BOOK IN SEPTEMBER!!

Samurai’s Blood #1 (Image)
Andy: Can’t believe this book was only $1. Totally worth it and then some. If you skipped it, you’ve dishonored your clan.

Scalped #49 (Vertigo)
Andy: Dash Badhorse is not a guy you F with. Think he knows who killed his mother now?

Space Warped #1 (kaboom!)
Andy: A Star Wars parody is difficult to pull off, and I had such high hopes, but this one fell flat for me.

Supreme Power #1 (Marvel)
Andy: The only time I felt supreme while reading this was when I put it down less than halfway through.

Starborn #7 (BOOM!)
Andy: This book by Roberson and Rhandolph is clearly the best of BOOM’s superhero line.

Terry Moore’s Echo #30 (Abstract Studios)
Andy: This series had a strong female protagonist, a beautiful cast, and one of the best “realistic” stories in comics. Sad to see it end. Buy the complete TPB.

The Unwritten #26 (Vertigo)
Andy: This is slowly becoming one of my favorite indies. Mike Carey has created a world with depth and character, and that bunny is about to kick some ass.

Warlord of Mars #7 (Dynamite)
Andy: It’s cheesy, but in an old-school sci-fi way. don’t know how the guys walk around without permanent boners though. Seriously, every woman is basically naked.

Wolverine #10 (Marvel)
Jeff: Cannonfoot has to be the worst name for the worst villain since Angar the Screamer. Luckily, he gets what’s coming to him.
NickZ: Wow, this story is getting interesting. I’m glad they are being smart about it.

X-Men Legacy #250 (Marvel)
Arnab: Great issue. It’ll be interesting to see how well Carey can juggle two stories, but if this is any inclination, he’ll be fine.
Jeff: I love the premise of this new direction. But I’m not crazy about the art.
NickZ: Great issue! This Legion story is rad and it’s about time we see Havok and company! I’ve missed them.

Kick that Chirpin’ bird in the beak!
