Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 1/12/11

Amazing Spider-Man #651 (Marvel)
Andy
: Dan Slott- making Amazing Spider-Man a must read since 2010.
NickI: The end of the first Big Time story arc, in which Spidey prevails with his color changing Tron suit. Can’t wait for suped up Spidey Slayers.
Jeff: I loved the dialogue effects between Spidey and Hobby. This is a great book!

Batgirl #17 (DC)
Andy: I will never get tired of seeing Steph own Damian. Ever.
NickZ: Damian is such a little jerk! I like his team up with Supergirl better.

Batman and Robin #19 (DC)
Andy: I’m sorry, but did anyone else laugh out loud at the panels where you can see Dick and Damian through the hole in that chick’s head? Just ridiculous.
NickZ: I’m bored with the hole in the head lady already, let’s move on.

Birds of Prey #8 (DC)
Andy: Maybe the best issue of this series so far. What would make it even better, is if the Calculator can just go away for good.
NickZ: Bruce and Canary kick’n ass together was “kind of beautiful to see.” This series ROCKS!

Black Panther: The Man Without Fear #514
Andy
: I like it, I just hope other people do too.
Infinite Speech: Vlad brings the fight to T’Challa and we find out he bleeds a lot more without the Vibranium suit. Another overall good issue from Liss and Francavilla!

B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth #1 (Dark Horse)
Andy:
This was my first foray into the world of B.P.R.D. and I’m into it!

Casanova Gula #1 (Icon)
NickI: If you haven’t read Casanova, read it! If you’ve read it before, this issue is worth it for the Bryan Lee O’Malley interview backmatter.

Daredevil Reborn #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Daredevil searches for redemption as fans hope for the same thing in this mini.
Aron: Wow. That was really good. I applaud Andy Diggle.
Infinite Speech: I’m on the fence about this issue as we find Murdock just walking the earth and getting into an adventure…like Cane from the tv show Kung-Fu.
NickI: I can get behind this Murdock-tries-to-find-himself storyline, with hopefully a totally different direction for the character.

Dark Tower: The Gunslinger- The Little Sisters of Eluria #2 (Marvel)
NickI: Creepy, man eating nun nurses.

Deadpool #31 (Marvel)
NickZ
: Best line this week: “But Why? Is it because you’re a sparkly little sissy?” Suck it Twilight!

Fallen Angel: Return of the Son #1 (IDW)
Andy: How in the hell is artist JK Woodward not getting more work from the Big Two!?

Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors #6 (DC)
Andy: This is quickly becoming my favorite Lantern book. Although Kilowog and Arisia need to get the ring out of their asses.
NickI: Just more set-up for the whole War of GL thing. I hope Guy kicks Hal’s ass.

Heroes For Hire #2 (Marvel)
Andy: I liked this one a lot better than #1. Things seem to be looking up for this book.
NickI: Yes, this book just hit another level of awesome. Need help with mystical stuff, call on Ghost Rider!

The Incredible Hulks #620 (Marvel)
Andy
: Writers take note- this is how you bring characters back from the dead and make it feel significant. Greg Pak is the man.

Infinite Vacation #1 (Image)
Andy: If you didn’t know who Nick Spencer was before, you definitely will now. T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents, Morning Glories, and now this. The dude is just full of “f**k yeah!”
Aron: This Image book from Nick Spencer is uncharacteristically…boring.
NickI: Great premise, albeit I’m confused at how the parallel life trading works. Like a hipster version of Jet Li’s The One.

Justice League: Generation Lost #17 (DC)
Andy: Nobody told me The Incredible Hulk would appear in a DC book this week!
NickZ: Seriously they need to just cancel the other Justice League book and just keep this one as an ongoing series.

Knight and Squire #4 (DC)
Andy: Errm…I think I missed something here…
NickZ
: This series is so different from any other books. Yes, that’s a good thing!

Let Me In: Crossroads #2 (Dark Horse)
Aron: Kinda boring, pretty much. Except for the part with the cat.

Red Robin #19 (DC)
Andy: That alternate costume looks way cool. So does Tim firing a machine gun.
NickZ: What a strange issue. I liked the Red Robin/Nightwing costume and Riddler.

Spawn #200 (Image)
Andy: The amount of creators who worked on this issue was impressive, but what the f**k was going on???
Infinite Speech: We get several questions answered here in this giant-sized issue but did we really need one long ass fight scene to do it?

Secret Six #29 (DC)
NickZ: A really dumb ending. Ragdoll reminds me of Deadpool.

Stan Lee’s Starborn #2 (BOOM! Studios)
Andy: Action, adventure, and sci-fi goodness all wrapped up into one little comic. I’m diggin’ it.

Star Wars Knight Errant #4 (Dark Horse)
Andy: Love the art, not so much the story.

Superman #707 (DC)
Andy: What in the hell…the only thing leaking from that factory is a butt load of lame.
NickZ: For a second I thought Clark was going to become a wife beater, other than that it was boring.

Thor the Mighty Avenger #8 (Marvel)
NickI: Boo, the last issue of the series. If you haven’t read this, read the first trade, fall in love with it, and send a hopeless petition to Marvel.

T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents #3 (DC)
Andy: I never gave two hoots about the T-Agents before, but now I’m hooked!
NickI: This issue highlights Noman, whose immortal consciousness (via robots) is making him lose his humanity. Best new book in the stands.

Titans #31 (DC)
Andy: The best issue of this series so far, but that isn’t saying much.

Unwritten #21 (Vertigo)
Andy: This book has hit its stride! A definite page-turner!
NickI: Further tales of Tommy Taylor inside Melville’s Moby Dick. Literature geek fan fiction.

Wonder Girl #1 (DC)
Andy:
A fun, one-shot story starring Cassie. The new character seems pretty cool, too.
