Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 9/9/2010

Welcome to Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews! Here you can find out what we at ComicAttack.net thought of this past week’s new books in 140 characters or less! Make sure to come back each week to see what we have to say about the latest comics!

2000 AD #1701 (2000 AD)
Aron: This stuff is just blowing me away. America could use a regular dose of “The Galaxy’s Greatest Comic”.

Adventure Comics #518 (DC)
Nick: This is a really fun book. Superboy at the Superman museum was a cool bit.

The Amazing Spider-Man #641 (Marvel)
Andy: Whether you liked this arc or not, there were some real moments between Peter and MJ here.
Aron: I am PISSED! I’m pissed at Peter Parker! He had a chance and totally blew it! But wait, Joe Q was driving. Maybe I’m pissed at him!

The Amazing Spider-Man #642 (Marvel)
Andy: Doc Ock: Performing C Sections since 2010! (not really, but still)
Aron: Oh, great! The shitty art is back. Look! It’s the fat Spidey that shows up at Cons and is only funny for a minute!

American Vampire #6 (Vertigo)
Andy: New characters, a new story arc, still the same dosage of awesome.
Arnab: New direction, same badass awesomeness.
Aron: Starting off slow, but it is the beginning of a new story. It won’t be slow for long. WATCH OUT!

Batgirl #14 (DC)
Andy: Stephanie Brown, will you marry me? The best issue of this series to date!
Aron: These stand alone issues are cool! The BFF team of Batgirl & Supergirl, is fun!
Nick: Had a very “Girl’s Night Out” feel to it.

Batman #703 (DC)
Andy: Not bad, but the art threw me a little. Did anyone else have pages glued together? That sucked.
Arnab: Filler story focusing on Bruce’s humanity. Great writing, decent art.
Aron: A great team-up of the three Robins! BATMAN is back to being good. Thank goodness the CRAP from 701 & 702 is gone!
Nick: The lesson of this story is never trust a woman.

Batman Odyssey #3 (DC)
Andy: YES! Now this series is where it should be! An entire issue of Batman kicking the shit out of a bunch of goons. AWESOME!!

Batman and Robin #14 (DC)
Andy: Easily the best issue of Morrison’s Batman run. Damian you just got punked!
Arnab: Holy Begeezus Batman! Everything is slowly coming together, to what can only be an epic finale.
Aron: Morrison can write good Batman stuff…when he wants to.
Nick: So much good stuff going on here, can’t wait for the next issue.

Billy the Kid’s Old Timey Oddities and the Ghastly Fiend of London #1 (Dark Horse)
Aron: Oh, man! My sides hurt now!

The Calling: The Cthulhu Chronicles #3 (BOOM!)
Aron: This is getting weird, man. IA! IA! CTHULHU FHTAGN!

Daken: Dark Wolverine #1 (Marvel)
Andy: I’m sick of seeing Daken just float around and jerk off. Will he DO something already!?
Nick:
A good start to this book. Daken is starting to be one of my favorite characters.

Daredevil #510 (Marvel)
Andy:
Great art and a surprise potential death. If the character stays dead, I’ll miss’em.
Aron: Best issue of DAREDEVIL since SHADOWLAND started! It’s even better than SHADOWLAND! The Kitchen is so jacked up, man…

Doctor Solar, Man of the Atom #2 (Dark Horse)
Aron: This is pretty cool, y’all! But, what happened to Calero?

Daytripper #10 (Vertigo)
Andy: This series has touched me like no other. Incredibly moving on the most human levels. Beautiful and emotional. A+

Green Hornet Strikes #3 (Dynamite)
Andy: It’s good, but when the hell does it take place in the GH time line? Where’s Britt Jr.? I’m confused.

Green Lantern #57 (DC)
Andy: Easily the best GL issue since Blackest Night. Some great character moments were packed into this one. Oh, and for the first time I though Carol Ferris was totally hot.
Arnab: I present to you, Queen Carol.
Aron: How could ANY comic book suck when it has Larfleeze in it? Here’s an idea! Put Larfleeze in BATMAN: RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE!

Invaders Now! #1 (Marvel)
Andy:
Yikes, not what I was hoping for. Feels like The New Warriors series from a few years ago. Which is a bad thing.

The Invincible Iron Man #30 (Marvel)
Andy:
Finally we see some action in this story arc! Sasha Hammer is flippin’ sexy!

Justice League Generation Lost #9 (DC)
Andy:
Max Lord may be one of the best villains in the DCU, and this title may be the best by DC.
Nick: This Justice League team is so great and with Max as the villain what more could you ask for in a book?

Kill Shakespeare #5 (IDW)
Andy: If you’re like me and love Shakespeare, READ THIS! If not, have at thee rogue!

Liberty Meadows #1 (Image)
Aron: Oh, how I love Liberty Meadows. Oh, how I miss Liberty Meadows. Monkey Boy Cho needs to make more!

Lucid #1 (Archaia)
Andy: I’m a little lost, but the art is pretty and I’m definitely entertained. Very creative way of portraying the casting of spells.

Red Robin #16 (DC)
Andy:
Tim Drake is so badass. He’s more “Bruce Wayne Batman” than Dick will ever be. After Batman & Robin, this is the best Bat Book on the shelves.
Arnab:
Tim being brilliant, once again. Great scene between Tim and Captain Boomerang.

Shadowland: Blood on the Streets #2 (Marvel)
Andy: My least favorite of all the Shadowland books. Totally skippable.

The Sixth Gun #4 (Oni Press)
Andy: So f-ing good! A western meets a super natural thriller! READ IT!!

Spawn #199 (Image)
Andy: I want to care. I want to be into it. But…I’m not. : /

The Thanos Imperative #4 (Marvel)
Andy: This one’s jam packed with holy dirty diaper moments, and only now am I really hooked!
Aron: WOAH! Did THAT just happen!? This series is awesome! Read it!

Thor #614 (Marvel)
Andy: Turn to page 16 and look at Balder’s map on the table. And editors get PAID for this while we’re paying $3.99?  Braithwaite’s art looked uncharacteristically sloppy too.

Ultimate Avengers 3 #2 (Marvel)
Andy: Vampires? Seriously Marvel? For chrissakes…

Weird War Tales #1 (DC)
Andy: Funny and seriously serious at the same time. I loved it! Where else can you see Hitler, Patton, and Joan of Arc getting wasted together?
Aron: This is good stuff! But only a one-shot!? Come on, DC! DAMN YOU!

Whispers in the Walls #2 (Humanoids)
Aron: This is a pretty cool little import. And something pretty effed up is going on, I tell you!

X-Force: Sex & Violence #3 (Marvel)
Andy:
F-ing amazing. ‘Nuff said.
Arnab: Fantastic ending. Awesome story, fluid writing, beautiful art.
Jeff: I’m really gonna miss this team of characters written by Kyle & Yost. This was a great little series.
Nick: Just awesome! Kyle and Yost will be missed.

X-Men #3 (Marvel)
Andy: Jubilee! Wolverine! NOOOOOOOO!!
Arnab: I am thoroughly enjoying this story. Go Mutants!
Aron: Nope. Still don’t like it. I don’t know why I keep doing this to myself. The art is good, though.
Jeff: This is how I want my X-Men book to feel. Gischler & Medina have brought a classic feel back to the X-Men.
Nick: This is the first Curse of the Mutants book that i really enjoyed. Vamp Jubilee is so cool.

X-Men Forever 2 #7 (Marvel)
Andy: The best part about this issue? Seeing Corsair don Cyclops’ 90s Jim Lee outfit. The worst part? Everything else.

Well I was behind on my reading this week, but DAMN!! Start reading Whispers in the Walls now!!!! Issue #2 just floored me!

  2. Nick

I so agree with Andy about Red Robin. Tim Drake kicks ass and is most like Bruce than anyone else. One day he will make an awesome Batman.

  3. Billy

That Weird War Tales sounds great. I’m gonna have to pick that up.

  4. InfiniteSpeech

Are you sure your pages were “glued” together Andy? Or were you just that excited to see men in tights? 🙂

  5. Eli

I’m loving Tim Drake. If anyone out there is really missing Bruce’s Batman, read Red Robin. Tim is a fantastic detective, and the boy is bada$$.

On the Marvel side of things, if I had only one book to read, it’d be Thanos Imperative. Its been a while since there was a book with so many cosmic heroes done this well.

@ Speech – Don’t be so hard on Andy, he can’t help getting excited by guys in tight pants. He just needs to be more careful where he sets his books is all.
