Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 8/4/2010

Welcome to Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews! Here you can find out what we at ComicAttack.net thought of this past week’s new books in 140 characters or less! Make sure to come back each week to see what we have to say about the latest comics!

The Amazing Spider-Man #639 (Marvel)
Andy: Contrary to popular opinion, I’m enjoying this story. Peter and MJ needed this reconciliation time.
Aron: The last quarter of this comic book is packed with WTF!? moments. Getting interesting. Quesada art + Aron = BFFs!

Avengers Prime #2 (Marvel)
Andy: It’s not bad, but definitely not up to par with the other Avengers books…it feels, I dunno, random and out of place.

Lord Baltimore: The Plague Ships #1 (Dark Horse)
Andy: Tired of stupid, lame, sparkly vampires? Read this!

Batman: Odyssey #2 (DC)
Andy: Much MUCH better than #1. I like how it explained elements about Bruce’s fighting techniques. I have a new hope for this mini.
Infinite Speech: I’m done.

The Boys #45 (Dynamite Entertainment)
Andy: Hughie and Annie! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Brightest Day #7 (DC)
Andy: The nay-sayers can sit down now as things got crazy in this issue! Stuff HAPPENED!
Infinite Speech: Finally something happens!

Captain America #608 (Marvel)
Andy: Another great story from Brubaker. Love the 60s feel to Black Widow’s facial features, too.
Aron: Loving the story. Loving the old school’ish art. Nomad backup feature + Aron = BarFFs!
Infinite Speech: So Bucky, I guess when you run around without your mask it makes it easier for the bad guys to guess your “secret” identity?

Crossed: Family Values #3 (Avatar)
Decapitated Dan: I don’t know this one may have finally crossed the line too far, I still like it but I just think it went from good to grossing out just to gross out.

Daredevil: Black and White #1 (Marvel)
Aron: Lame. I put too high of expectations on it. The cover is gorgeous! Best part of the whole comic book. Aja art + Aron = BFFs!

Deadpool #1000 (Marvel)
Andy: What Jeff says below, but don’t use the Denys Cowan “Blackest Night” spoof as toilet paper. That one was hilarious too!!
Jeff: The first story was the best out of this bunch. Use the rest as toilet paper.

Deadpool: Wade Wilson’s War #3 (Marvel)
Andy: It’s ok. But for a Marvel Knight’s book? Well, let me put it this way: It ain’t no Silver Surfer: Requiem!

Doomwar #6 (Marvel)
Andy: Wow! Definitely didn’t see that ending coming. T’Challa’s the shiznit! Wolverine can rest a little easier now, too.
Eli: A real letdown. The series is great, but the end is just horrible. So much potential, all done away with in two tiny panels.
Infinite Speech: A great ending to a great series! A lot of people in the Marvel U are gonna be PISSED!!

Philip K. Dick’s Electric Ant #5 (Marvel)
Andy: A fantastic sci-fi story! The perfect conclusion to this great mini. Can’t wait for the trade!

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #157 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: This series is what a Joe book should be! Hama don’t hurt ’em!!

Hawkeye & Mockingbird #3 (Marvel)
Andy: I’d rather have Clint shoot me in my anus than read another issue.

Hit-Monkey #2 (Marvel)
Andy: Is it an asinine concept? Yes. Does it work? Yes. Do you feel like a schmuck reading it? Yes. But is it awesome? YES!!!
Aron: It’s got a monkey! It’s got Bullseye! It’s got poo flinging! No, wait…it’s chocolate cake. It’s got…a horse taking a shit? Hit-Monkey + Aron = BFFs!
Eli: Contrary to what the title may evoke, this is a good read. And its a monkey hit man, come on, who can’t get behind that.
Infinite Speech: How can you go wrong with a title focused on a trained MONKEY assassin?!

House of Mystery #28 (Vertigo)
Aron: Goblins! Time traveling lesbians! Witches! Ghosts! House of Mystery + Aron = BFFs!

iZombie #4 (Vertigo)
Andy: The best issue of the run so far. Prevented me from dropping this title altogether…still on the fence though.
Aron: We learn the origin of Gwen and her friends. Purple chicks are hotties! Gwen + Aron = BFFs!
Jeff: Best issue of the series yet! I love the explanation of the monsters in this universe and the ties to souls.

Jurassic Park: Redemption #2 (IDW)
Andy: The story’s ok, but really wordy. The liney art, however, is killing this book. I’d rather let a T-Rex pee on me than see another damn fingerprint in the art…

Kill Shakespeare #4 (IDW)
Andy: Thou art the most exemplary of all issues compiled thus far. Exeunt.

Magnus, Robot Fighter #1 (Dark Horse)
Andy: Not my thing, sorry.
Aron: Pretty awesome! Magnus: The only dude NOT in pants. Pants + Aron = BFFs!
Eli: A great start to Shooter’s revival of Magnus.

Marvel Universe vs Punisher #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Punisher taking on the Marvel U. gone crazy.
Eli: So much fun. Not too much thinking, just Frank kicking the crap out of… whatever those things are.

Murderland #1 (Image)
Andy: Don’t ask me what this was about, because I have no f-ing clue. Seriously- what did I just read?

Nancy in Hell #1 (Image)
Andy: Great art and the story wasn’t too bad for a T n’A book. Why is it published by Image though and not Heavy Metal?

The New Mutants Forever #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Another “Forever” title!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Red Hood: The Lost Days #3 (DC)
Andy: I’m liking this mini a lot. Jeremy Haun’s art really captures Jason’s brooding nature.

Red Robin #15 (DC)
Andy: Tim Drake is the shit. Suck it Damian.

The Rage of Thor #1 (Marvel)
Andy: A very well done one-shot. But what’s with Thor dissing on getting hammered with wenches? Sometimes I seriously wonder about that guy…

Shadowland #2 (Marvel)
Andy: Daredevil has never been cooler.
Aron: Everything seemed forced and unnatural. I didn’t like it. Pre Shadowland Daredevil + Aron = BFFs!
Eli: Matt’s sliding further and further down the rabbit hole, or something far more sinister.
Infinite Speech: Matt’s not himself lately and some old friends stop by for an intervention. A lot of ass is about to be kicked!

Shadowland: Bullseye #1 (Marvel)
Andy: I get it, nobody really dies in comics…but this? It was a decent story, but I dunno. The ending was just…can you say ‘cop out?’
Aron: Even in death, Bullseye is still the same lovable, psycho nut job! Bullseye + Aron = BFFs!

S.H.I.E.L.D. #3 (Marvel)
Andy: Ok, more people on staff are reading Hit-Monkey than S.H.I.E.L.D.… that just ain’t right.

Spitfire #1 (Marvel)
Andy: MI-13 and Blade fans won’t want to skip it…everyone else should though.

Star Wars: The Old Republic #2 (Dark Horse)
Andy: I have no clue what the hell is going on here. Too much political mumbo jumbo. The art isn’t helping either.

Superman: The Last Family of Krypton #1 (DC)
Andy: Do I sense a potential rival to Red Son as the best Superman Elseworlds tale? I think so!

Sweet Tooth #12 (Vertigo)
Andy: The first book I read last week, and definitely my favorite too. Read it if you aren’t already!
Aron: This comic is just brilliant. Gus + Aron = BFFs!

Ultimate Avengers 2 #6 (Marvel)
Andy: I think I could read this entire 6 issue mini-series in under 15 minutes. That said, it kicks ass.

Ultimate Mystery #1 (Marvel)
Decapitated Dan: Captain Marvel is funny! But I don’t see how Johnny is back with the new FF, I need some time line answers.

Whispers in the Walls #1 (Humanoids)
Decapitated Dan: This is easily my book of the week. I highly suggest taking a chance on this import.

Young Allies #3 (Marvel)
Jeff: This should be called New Warriors. It practically is!

Next to Shadowland, the title most Comicattack staff are reading is Hit-Monkey. To me, that’s goofy. 😛
