Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 8/11/2010

Welcome to Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews! Here you can find out what we at ComicAttack.net thought of this past week’s new books in 140 characters or less! Make sure to come back each week to see what we have to say about the latest comics!

The Astounding Wolf-Man #24 (Image)
Aron: Like the previous 23 issues, this was awesome. Absolutely HATE that next issue is the last.

Batgirl #13 (DC)
Aron:
Okay, so that was fun!

Birds of Prey #4 (DC)
Andy: Can Ed Benes finish an issue on his own? …please?
Arnab: Awesome conclusion to the first arc. Barbara and Dinah rock.
Aron: Hmmm. Just doesn’t have the same edge as when this crew originally joined the book. Or maybe I’m old now. Do I go back for #5?

The Calling: Cthulhu Chronicles #2 (BOOM!)
Aron: It was only okay at best, this issue, but I’m not giving up on it yet.

Daredevil #509 (Marvel)
Andy: Love the art, but if the ending is a fake out it will take some of the “oomph” out of Shadowland for me.
Aron: Who got their damn thumb prints all over the inside of my comic book!? This issue was kinda bland.

Dark Wolverine #89 (Marvel)
Andy: I’m sorry, but I can’t take it too seriously when Wolverine’s most aggressive move is to slice FRANKENCastle’s finger tips with finesse. Kinda goofy.

Daytripper #9 (Vertigo)
Andy: Very few comics have been able to evoke tears from me, and this one almost did at its conclusion. Such a beautiful series.

G.I. Joe #21 (IDW)
Andy: A solid issue, but it ain’t no G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero!

Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors #1 (DC)
Andy: It’s cool, but I hope the cast gets larger.
Arnab: Great start to the series. Guy’s on a mission to clean up scum in the unknown galaxies.

Incredible Hulk #611 (Marvel)
Andy: This was f-ing great! Greg Pak is the man and delivers a doozy here, and Paul Pelletier’s art is eye popping. Damn these guys for getting me into Hulk!
Aron: There was a whole TON of smashing, like whoa.

Justice League: Generation Lost #7 (DC)
Andy: Give me a good reason why you aren’t reading one of the best Brightest Day tie-ins on the shelf. No, I said a GOOD reason!

Locke & Key: Crown of Shadows HC (IDW)
Decapitated Dan: Yet another great chapter in this series that had another strong finish. I consider this the best book on the market today.

Locke & Key: Legacy Edition (IDW)
Aron: BEST. DOLLAR. I. EVER. SPENT! I MUST HAVE MORE! I MUST FIND “WELCOME TO LOVECRAFT” TPB! I MUST QUIT SHOUTING!
Decapitated Dan: Were the 3 copies I bought enough? Naw I am going back to buy more!

Locke & Key: Keys to the Kingdom #1 (IDW)
Decapitated Dan: Starting out strong again!!! It’s L&K week in case you didn’t know. Love the homage art in this one. YAY!!!!!!!

Morning Glories #1 (Image)
Decapitated Dan: Runaways huh? Missed that link. I pass.
Jeff: Picked this up on a whim. What the heck is this school?

Route Des Maisons Rouges #1 (GG Studio)
Aron: Looks like anime. Reads like silly. I’d say it is longer than most $2.99 comic books.
Decapitated Dan: Oh man this book was FUNNY! A great read that anyone looking for something different should pick up.

Shadowland: Blood on the Streets #1 (Marvel)
Andy: It’s ok, but only hardcore fans of the street level fighter guys should check it out.
Aron: Two characters I know very little about. Two characters I know nothing about. One interesting story.

A Skeleton Story #1 (GG Studio)
Decapitated Dan: Now that is fun on the bun! A great read; once again I suggest taking a look at.

Sky Doll: Lacrima Christi #1 (Marvel/Soleil)
Decapitated Dan: Another awesome round of mini stories that involve the SD universe and not just Noa.

Steve Rogers: Super Soldier #2 (Marvel)
Andy: More like, Steve Rogers: Skinny Sac #2.
Aron: Alright! Now I have the same physique as a super hero and it’s NOT Plasticman for once! (does anyone know if this is a mini or not?) I like this book better than CAPTAIN AMERICA!

Superman #702 (DC)
Andy: I’m not a big Superman fan, but I’m liking this new direction. Superman the handyman!
Aron: I think I’ll go for a walk now.

Titans #26 (DC)
Andy: Things are going rough for this series, but at least we now know what the McGuffin is…and Arsenal finally showed up.

Ultimate Spider-Man #13 (Marvel)
Andy: Spidey’s in some deep doo-doo now! Can’t wait to see Iceman kick some ass next issue.
Decapitated Dan: Good build up for the big Iceman + Torch Tag Team beat down next month. It’s so cold it burns!

The Unwritten #16 (Vertigo)
Andy: If you’ve stuck this serious out so far, this issue was as good a payoff issue as any! Shit just got awesome!!

The Walking Dead #76 (Image)
Andy: Wow. Rick got owned. Definitely didn’t see that coming.
Arnab: The folks at the safe-zone better be prepared for the crazies that are on their way. Rick’s got to hold it together better for Carl.
Jeff: Ok, so they’re letting Rick still be the cop AND carry a gun? Crazy!

X-Force: Sex & Violence #2 (Marvel)
Andy: YES! This is how I want to see Wolverine portrayed in comics! Amazing stuff right here ladies and gents.
Arnab: And now we know why this is called sex and violence.
Jeff: Makes me want to put “Razorfist” in this sentence.

X-Men #2 (Marvel)
Andy: Jubilee! NOOOOOOOOOO!!! Who knew this X-Men/Vampires thing would be so good?
Arnab:
Great stuff. There’s a war looming and the X-Men want nothing to do with it.
Aron:
This series is effing retarded and Blade looks like a hillbilly redneck. I’m done. K’bye.
Decapitated Dan: Ahhh HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Come on really? What’s with Blade’s hair? Is he balding?
Jeff:
Fastball Special goes awry for once! Awesome!

Zatanna #4 (DC)
Andy: A lot of flash and pizazz with little payoff.

What happened to Misy Knight’s afro?! That’s like Spidey not having webs or Cap not having his shield or Aquaman not being lame! The two just go together!

  2. Billy

Great job guys. I really liked X-Men Aron, and I’m astonished that you didn’t. I mean, its really uncanny. Steve Rogers: Super Soldier is a mini fyi.

  3. Aron

No way, man! X-MEN is just a plum dumb series. Bad concept and bad art for Blade. That breaks my heart that Super Soldier is a mini. I’m gonna have to ax it, I’m afraid…
