Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 7/7/2010

Welcome to Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews! Here you can find out what we at ComicAttack.net thought of this past week’s new books in 140 characters or less! Make sure to come back each week to see what we have to say about the latest comics!

The Atom Special #1 (DC)
Andy: A setup issue for the upcoming Atom backup story in Adventure Comics. I wonder if Jepperd will be making an appearance.

Avengers: The Children’s Crusade #1 (Marvel)
Andy:
I didn’t know much about this cast of kids, but the art was great, Magneto’s in it, and it reads like an X-book. Sign me up!
Arnab:
Operation Where’s Wanda is under way. With the help of Grampa Eric, Billy and Tommy will be reunited with mommy dearest in no time.

Batman: Odyssey #1 (DC)
Andy:
What the hell…? I love Neal Adams’ original run on Batman, but this was…not my thing. I’ll still try out #2 though.
Infinite Speech:
It’s Neal Adams drawing and writing Batman but I’m still on the fence with it.

Batman & Robin #13 (DC)
Andy: F-ing great! Damian wielding the crowbar was the scene of the issue. Damn you Grant Morisson!
Arnab: The Joker’s back and there’s gonna be trouble. Damian’s got a crowbar, Dick’s going to get shot, and three days till Bruce is back.
Infinite Speech: Who knew Damian’s utility belt ALREADY came with a crow bar? Guess after Jason Todd Bruce wanted his next Robin to be ready.

The Boys #44 (Dynamite)
Andy:
Well, that shoe had to drop eventually. Really looking forward to this story arc!

Brightest Day #5 (DC)
Andy: An action packed issue that tips the scales for plenty of characters! There’s not much that’s bright about the Brightest Day though…
Arnab: Boston Brand is completely disregarding the white ring. The Hawks are in trouble. And Mera’s got some explaining to do.
Infinite Speech: Decent issue but not one of the strongest.

Critical Millennium #1 (Archaia)
Decapitated Dan: Read this, and do it now. Save your $4 on that X-Men book and buy something worth reading. Easily on my must read list.

Darkness #85 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech: Sonatine and the Brotherhood of the Darkness are back!

Fantastic Four Annual #32 (Marvel)
Andy: DNA! DNA! DNA!

G.I. Joe #20 (IDW)
Andy: The art has gotten much better in this series, but the story is…not doing it for me. Although the next issue looks like it’ll have a cool shootout.

Hawkeye & Mockingbird #2 (Marvel)
Andy: Green Arrow and Black Canary are far cooler. By a long shot. A long bow shot.

Hit Monkey #1 (Marvel)
Andy:
I love me some Hit Monkey!
Infinite Speech: Loved this guy the first time I saw him in Deadpool. Nice origin issue here and yes it’s very over the top.

I, Zombie #3 (Vertigo)
Andy: Don’t listen to whatever ‘Speech says. He’s just jealous that Aquaman turned him down for Mera. Seriously though, this series has lost my attention.
Infinite Speech: WHY DOES NO ONE REALIZE THIS CHICK IS PURPLE?! And the were-terrier is still cooler than Aquaman.

Northlanders #29 (Vertigo)
Decapitated Dan: I passed on the last arc, so I have been a bit out lately, but this one shot pulled me back in. A lot of Viking fun!

Ouran High School Host Club vol. 14 (VIZ Media)
Kris: Holy moly, relationship progression! Tamaki may finally make a move soon.

Philip K. Dick’s Electric Ant #4 (Marvel)
Andy: What!? You aren’t reading this? And you call yourself a sci-fi fan! Tsk, tsk.

Red Hood: Lost Days #2 (DC)
Arnab:
Good story, good art. Jason Todd’s not so bad, just a bit of a psychopath.

Red Robin #14 (DC)
Andy: This issue really impressed me. Tim’s the man.
Arnab: Who knew I could ever feel bad for that snotty brat? Good to know that Timothy’s got a handle on everything.

Scarlet #1 (Icon)
Andy: I like Spider-Woman more, but this is definitely promising. Sign me up for #2!
Infinite Speech: I’m liking my intro to Scarlet from Bendis and Maleev right now.

Shadowland #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Talk about starting out with a bang! If you were on the fence, get off it- this issue was bad ass.
Eli: Holy crap! Holy Crap! HOLY! CRAP! Memo to everyone in the Marvel Universe…stay the **** away from Matt Murdock!
Infinite Speech: Daredevil establishes his foothold in Hell’s Kitchen and his friends are nervous as hell.

Scalped #39 (Vertigo)
Andy: The past continues to affect the present, and the story just keeps getting better.

Star Wars: The Old Republic #1 (Dark Horse)
Andy:
Yikes. This is what’s replacing Legacy? Yeah, I’ll pass…
Infinite Speech: Based off of the new game it’s a decent read but we’ll see what the last 2 parts bring to it.

Steve Rogers: Super Soldier #1 (Marvel)
Andy: It’s Ed Brubaker writing Steve Rogers. What more could you ask for?

Sweet Tooth #11 (Vertigo)
Andy: So f-ing good. Seriously. Heart wrenching and action packed at the same time.

Vengeance of the Moon Knight #10 (Marvel)
Dale: A must read for any fan of Secret Avengers; at times I forgot which title I was reading.

The Walking Dead #74 (Image)
Andy: The moral of the story: Never trust a priest! (unless his name is Jeff and he writes for ComicAttack.net)
Arnab: It’s a good thing Rick’s thinking straight; you just gotta have your guns.

X-Force #28 (Marvel)
Andy: Mike Choi totally got to draw all the awesome Second Coming moments, and this issue was full of’em!
Arnab:
F-ing terrific! Hope Summers is furious and someone’s going to pay.
Decapitated Dan: And reason #285 why I no longer read X-Men books is: Second Coming was horrible!
Infinite Speech: Beautiful artwork from Choi helps Kyle and Yost’s story along. And Cable finally doesn’t have to worry about that techno-virus anymore.

X-Men #1 (Marvel)
Andy:
Surprisingly pretty good! Really looking forward to where this is all headed. Plus, I’m a big Jubilee fan…correction: I’m the only Jubilee fan.
Arnab: A decent start, though I can’t say I care much about Jubilee or Pixie.
Decapitated Dan: Just as predicted Marvel, your dumb X-Men ruined a great story idea. Lets reboot now and just do a DOD mini.
Infinite Speech: Better than I expected and reading the Death of Dracula one-shot helps this issue’s credibility.

X-Women #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Loaded with side boob and butt shots of your favorite X-ladies! The story by Claremont was surprisingly enjoyable too. Now excuse me while I get a new box of kleenex.

Young Allies #2 (Marvel)
Andy: Pyro has a son now!? What the balls???

One thing I learned from reading these chirps is that Dan is one pissed off head lol

  2. DecapitatedDan

I was;t mad reading Critical Millennium. That books was FANTASTIC!!!!

  3. Jeff Jackson

@Andy-I’m glad to know I’m the only trustworthy priest. LOL! I haven’t picked up this week’s books, but I had a feeling that priest in Walking Dead was gonna be a creeper.

  4. Billy

I really liked Steve Rogers SS #1. Great mystery and action!

  5. Jeff Jackson

My LCS didn’t get their copies of X-Men #1 or X-Force #28. X-Men won’t come until Friday and the guy said he didn’t think X-Force was going to make it. But I picked up Avengers: Children’s Crusade, which was really good, I thought. The Walking Dead was good, but I have to say that I’m ready for the other shoe to drop in that book. And I, Zombie #3 was a bit boring, but I get it to look at Allred’s art.

  6. Jeff Jackson

Oh, and Hulkling went to an Episcopal school for 6 years! Go Episcopalians!

  7. Aron White

Batman: Odyssey was…ODD. And what’s up with Dick Robin wearing Tim Robin’s suit?
