Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 5/19/2010

Welcome to Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews! Here you can find out what we at ComicAttack.net thought of this past week’s books in 140 characters or less! Make sure to come back each week to see what we have to say about the latest comics!

Aliens vs Predator: Three World War #4 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: Story is great…the art is failing.

Amazing Spider-Man Presents: American Son #1 (Marvel)
Andy: I loved this story arc back before Spidey #600, and I’m down for more American Son!
Aron
:
Say WHAT!?

American Vampire #3 (Vertigo)
Andy: Just f-ing brilliant. Horror fans and non-horror fans alike should be reading it!
Arnab: New vampire Pearl kicks some old vampire ass. And that Skinner Sweet is badass.
Aron: HELLYEAH!!!!

Astounding Wolf-Man #23 (Image)
Aron: It’s time for a Boss Battle!

Avengers #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Cool, I really liked it. Not sure about the last page though…what’s that all about?
Andrew: I HATE John Romita Jr’s art. I can not say that enough.
Aron: Good start. I’ll buy #2.
Infinite Speech: Decent issue that could have used a bit more action or just a faster pace.

Azrael #8 (DC)
Andy: What the hell? This is getting a little too out there for a Bat book.
Aron: Totally weird. Cover is beautiful as always.

Batman: Streets of Gotham #12 (DC)
Andy: I like the focus being on these cool C list characters, plus stunning artwork in the Manhunter 2nd feature.
Arnab: Damian’s got himself a friend. How weird is that?
Andrew: Interesting story as always. Just wish the focus was more on the Bat-family.

Brightest Day #2 (DC)
Andy: Woah. Ok, didn’t see all of that coming. Looks like Deadman may revert back to his namesake real soon!
Arnab: I’m glad Firestorm is getting some face time. Can’t wait for what’s in store for Deadman.
Andrew: Glad to see the pace isn’t slowing down. Good stuff all around.
Aron: I’m interested in whatever that is that wants Martian Manhunter. Looks like a cool story.
Dale: A little slow this week, hopefully the story will begin to come together soon.
Infinite Speech: Less Aquaman and more Firestorm was just icing on the cake for a good issue!

Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors #2 (Udon)
Decapitated Dan: I love the art and the characters, I just wish it had a story to back it all up 🙁

DC Universe Legacies #1 (DC)
Andy: DC’s version of The Marvel’s Project/Eye of the Camera and it’s just as good!
Andrew: I was NOT expecting this to be SO good. A book written for all fans of the super hero genre.
Aron: A look at the history of the DCU from some more than qualified creators. And it’s so cool! I’m glad I’m attending this history lesson. All DC (and Marvel) guys should!

Deadpool #23 (Marvel)
Andrew:
Meh. Kinda funny.

Devil #4 (Dark Horse)
Decapitated Dan: Awesome series overall, but this issue seemed to wrap up to fast and them slowly fade to the end.

DV8: Gods and Monsters #2 (Wildstorm)
Decapitated Dan: Loving this! I love the idea, I love Wood’s story and I love having this group back in comics!

Galacta: Daughter of Galactus #1 (Marvel)
Decapitated Dan: I ♥ Hector Sevilla! Hopefully now you can all see how great his art is. Story was blah.

G.I. Joe #18 (IDW)
Andy: If you’ve been disappointed with IDW’s G.I. Joe reboot, fear no more! Dixon is finally getting into his own unique groove with the Joes.
Aron: Lots of action for a change. Covergirl is a badass.
Infinite Speech: Stalker shows up and it’s paintball guns vs real guns, some one didn’t get the memo.

Haunt #7 (Image)
Andy: A great issue that expands the story by focusing on the smaller plot points.

Hellblazer #267 (Vertigo)

Aron: Quite strange. But in this book, well…that’s just normal.

Invincible Iron Man #26 (Marvel)
Andy: I’m liking the new direction here.
Andrew: Good. I just wish it were longer. Seemed like too quick a read to me.
Aron: Nothing really spectacular.

Joe the Barbarian #5 (Vertigo)
Andy:
Major tear. My favorite character in this mini bites the dust. He was the man.

Justice League of America #45 (DC)
Dale: The beginning of the JLA/JSA crossover, JADE returns and Alan in the Kingdom Come costume. 😮

Legion of Super-Heroes #1 (DC)
Andy: Amazing last page. Levitz is setting the stage for the next major DC event!
Andrew: I was NOT expecting this to be SO boring.
Aron: Long and boring.
Dale:
A great relauch incorporating what has come before while still being accessible to new readers. The REAL LEGION returns to their book at last

Resurrection #11 (Oni Press)
Andy: I loved vol. 1 of this series, when it was in black and white, but ever since #1 of volume 2 things have felt off, and after this issue I’m bailing for good.

The Spirit #2 (DC)
Aron:
Women are trouble, for sure!
Decapitated Dan:
I read a DC book!! And I thought it was just as bad as the movie!

Superman/Batman #72 (DC)
Dale:
Superman’s off world, Lois kidnapped, Batman to the rescue, oh and Lex hatches another plot against Superman – YAWN.

Superman: War of the Supermen #3 (DC)
Arnab: Finally! Now that’s what I call a War.
Andrew: Business is about to pick up. This is some of the best Superman in a long long time.
Aron: Sci-Fi action at a break-neck pace!

Supernatural: Beginning’s End #5 (Wildstorm)
Arnab: Pretty much what you’d expect. The Winchester’s kicking some ass while Sam gets kidnapped.

The Walking Dead #72 (Image)
Andy: So should we start calling Rick “The Governor” now or what?
Arnab: It’s a good thing Rick and the others don’t trust the new guys, they’re obviously either idiots or psychotic.

Ultimate Avengers #2 (Marvel)
Andy: Action packed and 100% satisfying!
Andrew: Man. I was pumped after issue #1. But this issue really fell into the toilet to me.
Aron: Final page…badass! I’m sold on this now!
Decapitated Dan: Eh, I didn’t like it as much as I did #1 but I like that last spread. BURN EM ALL!!!!
Infinite Speech: The original Hulk of the Ultimate U vs War Machine, hope it gets better.

X-Factor #205 (Marvel)
Andy: De Landro’s art was spectacular in this one. Amazing facial expressions you could stare at for hours.
Arnab: Darwin’s pretty badass. Bastion really underestimated these guys.
Infinite Speech: A pretty decent tie in to 2nd Coming

X-Men Legacy #236 (Marvel)
Andy: My prediction for the next issue: Iceman’s powers trigger under extreme duress and he saves the day!
Arnab: As they say, all hell’s about to break loose.
Aron: I’m diggin’ the new players on the outside. This is in the Marvel Universe, after all!
Decapitated Dan: I had a lot of problems with the minor things, but liked the ending. Looking forward to the next chapter.
Infinite Speech: Bastion stil has his foot in the X-Men’s @$$, however Iceman finally shows up…not that it helped.

Zatanna #1 (DC)
Andrew: First issue shows potential, though if you aren’t already a Z fan, you won’t be wowed.
Aron: Rotcod Egnarts htiw yllaer ecin seiboob!

  1. Andy

How did you guys not like Legion!?

  2. Aron

    Because it sucked! *Yawn!*

Dan, on DCU Legacies, I meant to say Marvel. It’s a great way for Marvel guys to learn DC stuff.

  3. Aron

And because we didn’t get flight rings!

  4. andrewhurst

Haha. Of course, Dan. The one DC book you read is the worst one on the shelf. Hah.

  5. Aron

What’s so bad about The Spirit?

  6. InfiniteSpeech

You really have to ask that question Aron?? lol

    Legion…hmmmm…no comment lol

  7. andrewhurst

    @Aron

I picked up the first issue and thought it was boring and dumb. Which sucks cuz I like the Spirit, but that first issue I thought was rank.

  8. Aron

I was disappointed at how boring Legion was. The “Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes” series that it was following was awesome! But I guess Geoff Johns can’t write EVERYTHING! He’s not Bendis. I think he’s better because he doesn’t get watered down with 50 books a month.

  9. Billy

I thought Zatanna was great…even if I have no clue who that guy at the end was. lol

    @Speech- Fishnets + Cleavage = 🙂
