Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 10/26/2011

All-Star Western #2 (DC)
Andy: Like Westerns? A fan of Gotham City? This book is screaming “read me!”

Amazing Spider-Man #672 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: This was one great event that deserved as much hype as the failed ones that were happening all around it. Can’t wait for the fall out!
Jeff: Forget Fear Itself & Schism! Without a doubt, Spider-Island was THE Marvel event of 2011!

Aquaman #2 (DC)
Andy: Wow! Fight of the week right here people! Aquaman and Mera are BADASS!
Arnab: This book continues to be a strong read. The story is interesting, well written and the art that accompanies it is great as well.

Astonishing X-Men #43 (Marvel)
Andy: Better than issues from the last year or so… but that’s not saying much. This book is screaming, “Save me, Greg Pak!”
Capekiller: Could this book become any more meaningless?
Jeff: Finally, we get some David Yardin interiors! And not that bad of a story either!
NickZ: Nice little one and done story. Also, did anyone else notice that Emma looked like Topanga Lawrence on the cover?

Avengers Academy #20 (Marvel)
Capekiller: This book has just become the West Coast equivalent of the Initiative.  The jury is still out…..

Batman: The Dark Knight #2 (DC)
Arnab: Is it bad that I get all giddy inside when I see the Bat army at work together. Although, where was Red Robin?

Daken Dark Wolverine #16 (Marvel)
NickZ: Sometimes this book can be very dark, but it works.

Deadpool #45 (Marvel)
Capekiller: I don’t want to buy this book any more…..
NickZ: Evil Deadpool reminds me of how regular Deadpool was when he first appeared in comics, just a bit more crazy.

Incredible Hulk #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Looks damn good… but that was a pretty big 180 on Banner, eh?
Infinite Speech:
First Scott and Logan break up and now Bruce and Hulk! Is no bromance safe in the Marvel U??!!

FF #11 (Marvel)
Arnab: This book needs more kids and less boring adults. I mean seriously, Reed walks into the room and all of a sudden fun and joy dies.

The Flash #2 (DC)
Arnab: Uh, holy crap that was gorgeous art. And the layouts? Absolutely brilliant.
NickZ: This was a really cool issue. I like how Flash’s mind is adapting to the Speed Force, plus the art is amazing!

Gladstone’s School for World Conquerors #6 (Image)
Arnab: Another amazing issue. Seriously folks, pick up this book. The creative team is doing a tremendous job with this story.

Green Lantern: New Guardians #2 (DC)
Arnab: The Oans have lobotomized Ganthet. It is now time for Kyle to get rid of them, permanently.

Journey Into Mystery #630 (Marvel)
Capekiller: Awesome, awesome Volstagg story

Magdalena #9 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech: This creative team has made me a believer in The Magdalena!

New Mutants #32 (Marvel)
Capekiller: A little weird but I liked it.
Jeff: I’ve now determined that the real problem with this book the last few issues has been David LaFuente’s art. Robbi Rodriguez was a welcome addition.
NickZ: Glad to see this story line come to an end. Let’s see what Regenesis brings.

Red Wing #4 (Image)
Arnab: This book is totally awesome. The art has been fantastic. The story, while mind bending, and totally deceptive, has been amazing.

Scalped #53 (Vertigo)
Andy: Now that you know Jason Aaron from his two Marvel #1’s this week, you’re more willing to try his most excellent creator owned series, right?

Secret Avengers #18 (Marvel)
Andy: Warren Ellis is doing the best job on this book than any previous writer. His one and done stories work well, and the art of David Aja here was phenomenal.

Spaceman #1 (Vertigo)
Andy: Umm… yeeeah. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say this is going to be best read all at once.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #3 (IDW)
Arnab: Fantastic issue. Michelangelo, Donatello, and Leonardo find ways to break Splinter’s rules while Raphael bonds with Casey.

Teen Titans #2 (DC)
Arnab: Tim continues trying to build his team of super-teens, unfortunately no one else seems at all interested in joining.

Vescell #3 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Looks like there’s more to Detective “Moo” than we thought! Great, original story and artwork to match so

The Walking Dead #90 (Image)
Andy: Saw this coming a mile away, and I’m glad it finally happened!
Arnab: Hot Damn. From the beginning to the very end this issue was totally awesome.
Capekiller: They need to shake things up a bit.  Feels like the same old story recycled, using different characters.
Jeff: It’s about time those two got together!
NickZ: Last issue’s awesome ending totally didn’t payoff in this one, but this issue did have it’s own shocking ending as well!

Wolverine and the X-Men #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Great start to this new direction. I hope it lasts at least as long as the effects of M Day did.
Arnab: If this school is allowed to be opened after this disaster, which we know it will be, the state of New York has some seriously low standards. Jean Grey School for Higher Learning? Really? WTF? Good not great.
Capekiller: Welcome to the Jean Grey School of Higher Learning.  Haters be haters, this book was awesome in every way possible!
Jeff: I hated the way they got here, but I am extremely happy with where they’re going.
NickZ: Not going to lie, I totally expected to hate this book, but it was actually a good read. It brought back an old school sense of fun that the X-Men have been sorely lacking for too long!

Be sure to catch up on all past Chirps here!
