Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 10/12/2011

Amazing Spider-Man #671 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: The identity of Number Six is revealed and Spider sense returns in another great issue of Spider Island!
Jeff: Slott & Ramos are masters of juggling action, characters, and important story beats. Literally every page of this book has something awesome that happens!

Alpha Flight #5 (Marvel)
Capekiller: More stereotypes than Gid could shake a stick at!

American Vampire: Survival of the Fittest #5 (Vertigo)
Arnab: By far one of the best mini-series’ I’ve ever read. This book elevates the American Vampire tale to a whole new level.
Jeff: Nazi Vampire-“…after the ‘twilight’s last gleaming’ comes only darkness…” Cash McCogan-“Not before ‘bombs bursting,’ asshole.” AWESOME!

Batgirl #2 (DC)
Andy: I was hoping for more, but it’s not too bad. Love the art.
Arnab: It’s almost like we’re dealing with a child here and I don’t like that.
NickZ: Wheelchair Babs = Strong, confidant woman. Walking Babs = lame.

Batman and Robin #2 (DC)
Andy: Why wasn’t this the first issue? My hope for this title has been rekindled.
Arnab: I’m not particularly digging this psychopathic Damian. He’s regressed back to his early days.
NickZ: Damian is one creepy kid and speaking of creepy, who is this Mogan guy? Should I know him already?

Batwoman #2 (DC)
Arnab: Strong story and writing, gorgeous art. My favorite DC book of the week.

Black Panther: The Most Dangerous Man Alive #524 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: You know it’s bad when you grow four extra arms but Kingpin is STILL your biggest problem in this Spider Island tie in!

Blue Estate #6 (Image)
Andy: If you’ve ever lived in Los Angeles, this series is a must read. Otherwise, pick it up anyway for it’s off the wall wackiness.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 #2 (Dark Horse)
NickZ: Spike is so cool and just hilarious. Plus, out of work demons as bill collectors! Really, does it get any better?

The Cape #2 (IDW)
Andy: Any guy who threatens to kill his own mother better get what’s coming to him in the end.

Daken Dark Wolverine #15 (Marvel)
NickZ: This book has a lot of good stuff going on with Daken, Moon Knight, Donna Kilel and Johnny Storm!?!

Fear Itself: Hulk vs. Dracula #3 (Marvel)
Capekiller: Nobody will ever know that it was Dracula who stopped the Serpent that possessed Hulk. Oh, and a cool new team of vampires is born!

FF #10 (Marvel)
Arnab: Not enough happens in this issue. But the ending is a nice surprise.

Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. #2 (DC)
Andy: This series is in my Top 8 of the reboot. Pick it up for it’s cool art and unique concept. Can’t wait to see where this book is come #30.

Generation Hope #12 (Marvel)
Arnab: There are a couple pages that are copy and pasted from another book, wtf? Finally we get word of the Phoenix. I need more.
Capekiller: The book is conversational in nature (as always) and I think Hope may be the worst Marvel creation since Doop, but I’ll still keep reading!
Jeff: Adding a scene from a different comic book is just plain lazy. Especially a scene that doesn’t make any sense to begin with.
NickZ: Great to see the New X-Men and Hope’s team hanging out together…too bad it was for the last time and FINALLY Scott mentions the Phoenix Force!

Mister Terrific #2 (DC)
Andy: Interest, fading… but I’ll give it a few more issues.
Infinite Speech: Much better than the first issue though the art is still not my cup of tea. I’m definitely diggin’ the new villain.

Morning Glories #13 (Image)
Jeff: More answers which lead to more questions.

My Greatest Adventure #1 (DC)
Andy: Not gonna lie, I thought this would be dumb. It wasn’t. Good times.

The New Avengers #17 (Marvel)
Capekiller: Typical Bendis shorter than short read. This time featuring Wolverine a little more than I’m used to. Okay, I’m intrigued by the blood sample collection thing.
Infinite Speech: Please H.A.M.M.E.R. don’t hurt ’em! This is still my fav Avengers title and I hope it stays that way!

Orchid #1 (Dark Horse)
Andy: Wow! How was this only $1? Totally worth it, from the art to the story.
Capekiller: Apocalyptic story with limited upside and a beautiful cover.

Resurrection Man #2 (DC)
Andy: Still as good as #1, with sexy ladies added into the mix. Although, it does seem like I may need to track down the older stuff to know what’s really going on…
Capekiller: So I gave this book 2 issues based on friend recommendations and the fact that Abnett and Lanning wrote it. So I guess we are at the, “…shame on me.” part of the equation.

The Shade #1 (DC)
Andy: It’s ok. Didn’t grab me for the long haul, though… yet.

S.H.I.E.L.D. vol. 2 #3 (Marvel)
Arnab: I can’t think of anymore ways to get you guys to read this book. Hickman and Weaver are destroying it in this book. No really, they destroy a whole city.
Capekiller: This book is so complex that I don’t even understand the numbering…Dustin Weaver’s landscapes are beautiful, but the lack of words and often seen philosophical banter in this issue make it impossible for a dullard like me to follow.

Star Wars Invasion: Revelations #4 (Dark Horse)
Andy: Finally, this series picks up steam. Nicely done battle shots, but would have been better if there were more.

Superboy #2 (DC)
Arnab: Well hot damn kids. Superboy is super powerful. Super Duper Powerful. I need a Superman vs. Superboy fight right now.
NickZ: The new Superboy is way more of a telepath/telekinetic than the old one and he’s much more powerful too.

Super Dinosaur #5 (Image)
NickZ: Even in a kids book, Kirkman still brings a shocking ending. Also the letter pages are so much fun to read with all the little kids writing in and sending in drawings.

Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #3 (Marvel)
Andy: My store sells more copies of Ultimate Spider-Man than Amazing Spider-Man. Who knew?
Infinite Speech: Pichelli and Bendis continue to rock this series so if you’re not reading it your collection is missing you and so are you!
Jeff: My God, Sara Pichelli is so good. The emotion on each face is perfect!

Ultimate Comics X-Men #2 (Marvel)
Arnab: Kitty is badass, Rogue is going crazy, and Bobby and Johnny are a hoot.
Jeff: I’m kinda sick of the Stryker/Purifiers angle in X-Men books.

Uncanny X-Force #16 (Marvel)
Andy: I spilled my life seed reading this.
Arnab: Only Deadpool could be as humorous as he is with the world on the brink of destruction.
Capekiller: Same ol’ amazing goodness, over and over. This is the best book Marvel is producing right now!
Infinte Speech: When a series has been this good for this long you have to stand up and take notice!
Jeff: As if things couldn’t get any worse for our heroes…
NickZ: Only this book can make even Iceman cool. (see what I did there) Things are getting real (as the kids say) and Deadpool is comedy.

Who Is Jake Ellis? #5 (Image)
Andy: Who Is Jake Ellis? He’s someone you need to be reading about if crime fiction tickles your fancy.

X-Men Legacy #257 (Marvel)
Andy: This whole storyline could have been summed up in this issue. The first few parts were really weak.
Capekiller: Growing on me! Ahhaaaar me maties!!!!!!
Jeff: When will this story be over?
NickZ: More interesting than the last issue but I still just want them to get home already!

X-Men: Regenesis #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Loved it! Especially the allegorical battle between Cyke and Wolvie. Easily better than Schism.
Arnab: The concept and art were great. Beast is a dick. And all them turncoats have stupid reasons.
Infinite Speech: Logan and Scott pick teams as they finalize their break up.
Jeff: I loved the dividing of the X-Men, but the art was a real let-down.
NickZ: So I thought that Logan’s reason for leaving the team was lame but now that I see how ridiculous these other people’s reasons are, I take it back.

Be sure to catch up on all past Chirps here!
