Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 10/12/16

Action Comics #965 (DC)action-comics-965
Martin: 4/5 stars. It’s nice to have an issue that doesn’t focus on Superman just punching things. Lois Lane focus is welcome.
NickZ: Things are getting super complicated with multiple Supermen, Lois Lanes, and Clark Kents running around.

Adventure Time #57 (Boom!)
NickZ: A really fun ending to another mathematical adventure!

All-Star Batman #3 (DC)
Arnab: The art in this is just so remarkably, meh.
NickZ:
It’s not that this book is bad, it’s just that being that it’s “All-Star” and written by Scott Snyder, I expect more.

Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #3 (DC)
NickZ: Aside from the Canary flashback and taco Tuesday, this book was pretty terrible.

Black Science #25 (Image)
NickZ: Things are going pretty poorly for the McKay family. I hope Grant can spark his brain to think of a way out of this one.

Britannia #2 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: This is one weird detective story but definitely in a good way.

Deadpool #20 (Marvel)
NickZ: Deadpool talks a suicidal girl off a ledge just like Supes did in All-Star Superman except nothing like that because it’s Deadpool.

Detective Comics #942 (DC)
Arnab: Dear Batwoman, Nightwing knows everything.
Martin: 4/5 stars. This arc has been fun but it’s unfortunate that once we finally meet the BBEG in part #6, the whole thing is over
NickZ: Strange has reached Trump level crazy. Also, Batwoman giving Nightwing orders feels very wrong.

Doom Patrol #2 (DC)
NickZ: I am loving what a trip this book is turing out to be. Kudos to Gerard Way and Nick Derington.

Flash #8 (DC)
Arnab: This series and the show have one thing in common, too many speedy villains.
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Godspeed didn’t quite work, but the new Wally West parts are good. A non-speedster villain would be welcome.

Glitterbomb #2 (Image)
NickZ: This book is equal parts frightening horror story and frightening reality.
Infinite Speech: Zub does creepy and unsettling very well while Morissette makes it all look good!

Gotham Academy Second Semester #2 (DC)
NickZ: It only took two issues for the kids to find themselves right back in the middle of trouble.

The Great Lakes Avengers #1 (Marvel)
NickZ: The “Bad News Bears” of Avengers teams is back and as awful as ever! (In the best possible way!)

han-4 Han Solo #4 (Marvel)
NickZ: If you are not reading this book, you need to correct that because Marjorie Liu and Mark Brooks are telling one hell of a Han Solo story.

Howard the Duck #11 (Marvel)
NickZ: Such a bittersweet ending to a very memorable run on Howard. Chip Zdarsky, Joe Quinones, and Howard were a match made in comic heaven.

Jupiter’s Legacy 2 #4 (Image)
Infinite Speech: That escalated quickly…and painfully.

Lazarus #25 (Image)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. Every time I read this, I’m reminded how much I love Michael’s Lark’s art. It’s the perfect match for this story.

Lumberjanes Gotham Academy #5 (Boom!)
NickZ: The kids finally start fighting back and they literally brought the fire!

Moon Knight #7 (Marvel)
NickZ: They rely too much on Moon Knight’s mental issues as a vehicle for this book.

Mosaic #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Okay Marvel, your new title has my attention now lets see what happens next!

Old Man Logan #12 (Marvel)
NickZ: From the story to the art to the colors to the layout, this is fantastic storytelling firing on all cylinders!

Reborn #1 (Image)
Infinite Speech: This story was everywhere but in a good way that makes you want to pick up the next issue!
NickZ: I can already feel this is going to be so epic! It’s great to have Greg Capullo and FCO making visual poetry together again!

Red Hood and the Outlaws #3 (DC)
NickZ: Pretty clever using Jason’s own rebirth to connect him with Bizarro in a very personal way.

Revolution #3 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: All of these 80s toys are brought together in a damn good comic!

Supergirl #2 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Fun, quirky art adds a lot to the depiction of Kara. Leans heavily on the TV show for trappings so far.

Superwoman #3 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. A strong title & deserves a chance, but this issue wasn’t great. Small panels & not enough “show don’t tell.”

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #63 (IDW)tmnt-63
Infinite Speech: Splinter running the Foot is turning out to be more fun and darker than expected. Also, that last page was a great cliffhanger!

The Uncanny Avengers #15 (Marvel)
NickZ: I think I actually like this team better without Captain America.

Wonder Woman #8 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. This was supposed to be a one-off issue exploring Cheetah’s origins, but there’s no actual ending.

Wrath of the Eternal Warrior #12 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Never kidnap the Eternal Warrior’s son. Ever.
