Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 10/17/19

Batman #81 (DC)
Infinite Speech: So Thomas Wayne gets jumped by all of Batman’s kids and comes out on top? Even with Cassie Cain there?? GTFOH with that mess!

Black Panther and the Agents of Wakanda #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: The Avengers could have used Fat Cobra a loooong time ago when Sentry went crazy!

Captain America #15 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: The art needs to be as great as the story here. It’s struggling to keep up and it’s tiring.

Excellence #6 (Image)
Infinite Speech: The first arc is done and that cliffhanger was so unexpected! This creative team is on fire and I can’t wait for this to come back!.

Hit-Girl Season 2 #9 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Hit-Girl is in another country killing the bad guys but may have interfered in a situation that doesn’t want her help. I’m still not sure what her endgame is in all of this globetrotting but it’s entertaining.

Inferior Five #2 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Weird and completely different from any mainstream DC title, with interesting characters, a slow-burn mystery forming, and homages to DC’s past. The back-up story with Peacemaker, a seldom-used old Charlton character, is also great. #inferiorfive

Justice League #34 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Thanks, Hawkgirl. You let the entire multiverse down.

Killers #4 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: If you’re a Ninjak fan this should be in your read pile!

Robotech: Remix #1 (Titan)
Infinite Speech: Whether you’re new to Robotech or not this is a great point to jump in at but don’t expect a rehash of the same old stories as the new twists are half the fun here! The other half is the artwork!

Spider-Man #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: We still don’t know much about the villain but this was fun getting to know Ben. But the kid has some real daddy issues thanks to Peter.

Superman Smashes the Klan #1 (DC)
Martin: 5/5 stars. It’s hard to describe just how good, and important, this comic is. The story instantly engages with its extremely relatable POV character, “Roberta” Lee. Good for kids, & for adults needing a refresher on racism in America. #superman
Infinite Speech: Any book where the Klan gets their @$$ kicked is a book you should have!

Superman: Year One #3 (DC)
Martin: 2/5 stars. This entire 3-issue run has been a complete mess, with each issue having a completely different tone, horrible pacing, and inconsistent art. There’s so much jumbled & packed in here, it’s insane (in a bad way). #superman

Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Batman Knightfall #1 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. Another look at a universe where Batman “failed” & things went to Hell. It’s fine, I guess, but just another addition to the grim-dark “What if the Batman universe were TOTALLY METAL AND DARK?!” So edgy
Infinite Speech: Well this one wasn’t for me and it took me a couple of reads to finish it. Nothing to see here.

Wonder Woman: Come Back to Me #4 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. This is wild and so different from the “main” Wonder Woman line, but it reminds me of the comics I read in my youth, with dinosaur islands, robots, crazy tech, alien monarchies, and so much more. Totally fun! #wonderwoman

X-Men #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: For some reason I’m not trusting Professor X and the House of Summers might be holding some big secrets. A great start to the new direction for the mutants though.
