Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 09/27/17

Action Comics #988 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. I’m still not quite sure how I feel about Mr. Oz’s reveal, but this issue gets me closer to getting on board.
NickZ: If this really is Jor-El, he should have stayed dead.

Batman: Murder Machine #1 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. The art is gorgeous, & what gives it such a high score. Story-wise, almost a repeat of Red Death.
NickZ: Who knew Alfred had it in him? It seems Bruce’s walk down the dark side always begins with the death of his Bat-family.

Black Panther #18 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Okay this is getting better but I’m upset it took this long to get to the superheroing of Black Panther.

Blue Beetle #13 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. I really like the Giffen & DeMatteis team, but this is just a huge mess. It’s more of a “JL 3001” finale. Kinda.

Cable #5 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: So this is what people are spending their money on these days? Meh. Not for me.

Detective Comics #965 (DC)
Arnab: Tim Drake, hell yeah!
Infinite Speech: Giving this a shot but I still don’t know why everyone seems to love Tim Drake.
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. SO TIRED of that last villain. Every time he shows up, he’s defeated & it diminishes his 1st appearance.
NickZ: I love that they restored Tim’s original origin. I can’t wait to see what role he is going to play in what’s to come.

Duck Tales #1 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: You’ll be singing the theme song as you read this! Though less Donald and more of the boys is what I want

Faith and the Future Force #3 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Faith embodies that classic ideal of being a superhero in a modern world and that’s what makes her adventures so damn great!

First Strike #4 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: This has been one hell of a crossoverr and one you should read if you’re a fan of Transformers and Joes!

Flash #31 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Barry Allen has worse luck than that Parker guy.
Martin: 3/5 stars. Barry’s “always find hope” personality just doesn’t sit right w/ these darker powers & as a consequence it feels off.

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #244 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: This new Snake Eyes will take some getting used to and that’s the story that really stands out.

Incidentals #2 (Lion Forge)
Infinite Speech: Happy to see Stroman on a monthly title that’s this good!

Kamandi Challenge #9 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Hard to score. A nice tribute to Kirby, but also completely takes the reader out of the ongoing story.

Marvel Legacy #1 (Marvel)
NickZ: A good start to this event even if it was all over the place. I’m really excited for the Fantastic Four’s possible return but if they bring back Wolverine and not Cyclops, I’m gonna be pissed!

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #19 (BOOM!)
Infinite Speech: Loving this series since the first issue and it just keeps getting better!

Nightwing: New Order #2 (DC)
Arnab: Read this book, seriously.
Martin: 4/5 stars. This one seems to be slipping under the radar in the wake of Dark Metal, which is a shame.

Robotech #3 (Titan)
Infinite Speech: Not looking forward to what’s coming next but we’ll be loosing a great character soon.

ROM #13 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: The creative team has taken ROM to new heights in this series but I’m going to need the good guys to win a big one soon.

Southern Bastards #18 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Come for the Fiona Staples cover. Stay for the excellent story!

Suicide Squad #26 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Another 1 where art lifts the score. Some fun, wacky stuff, but Harley’s character never has any consistency.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #74 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: Testifying against Krang is hazardous to your heath but Leatherneck just might be hazardous to Krang!

Venomverse #4 (Marvel)
NickZ: You know it’s desperate times when Deadpool and Carnage are your only hope!

War Mother #3 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Flaco finds out the hard way about human emotion and sacrifice.

Wonder Woman #31 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. I’m a big Robinson fan so I’m excited to see what he does here. Glad he brought back an unresolved story thread

X-O Manowar #7 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Not a perfect jumping on point but damn it’s another fantastic issue that feels like a blockbuster movie!
