Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 08/17/16

Aliens: Defiance #3 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: Took a sec to get used to the new art but this is still a must – read series!

All-New Inhumans #10 (Marvel)
NickZ: I’m really starting to like Kraven’s daughter, Ana. I can’t wait to see what becomes of her.

All-New Wolverine #11 (Marvel)all new wolverine 11
Infinite Speech: This issue pokes so many holes in Civil War II. Maybe if there’s no interference the visions won’t come true.
NickZ: Civil War has everyone acting crazy and out of character. When Captain America unprovokingly attacks a woman, you know chivalry is dead.

Aquaman #5 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. After a promising beginning, the pace of this title is slowing down. Although there’s action, nothing much happens.

Batgirl & the Birds of Prey #1 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Using Black Canary as the POV character works well, as does the playful action-oriented art style
NickZ: Not a fan of this depiction of Babs, not a fan of this book.

Batman #5 (DC)
Arnab: Alfred ramming Gotham with the Batmobile was priceless.
Martin:
4/5 stars. A strong finish to this 1st arc, with a fun Alfred scene and a great & intriguing set-up for the future.
NickZ: There were some very cool moments in this issue but overall it just felt weird.

Blood & Gourd #2 (Dead Peasant)
Infinite Speech: Another fun and blood filled issue that gets creepier and better with every page.

Captain America: Sam Wilson #12 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: This issue was too predictable for me to give this a pass.

Civil War II: X-Men #3 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: I stopped reading this to watch the Olympics. It was a smart decision.
NickZ: Storm and Magneto are not fit to lead mutantkind! The X-Men need Cyclops!

Descender #14 (Image)
Arnab: Bandit is the absolute cutest.
NickZ:
How can you not fall in love with Bandit? Everyone needs a robo-dog like him!

Green Arrow #5 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Given how this arc started, I didn’t expect it to end this way. It’s definitely got me interested in reading more.

Green Lanterns #5 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars As much as I like the interaction between Simon & Jessica, nothing really happens this issue to drive the story.

Horizon #2 (Image)
Infinite Speech: This is quickly becoming one of my favorite new sci-fi titles!

InseXts #7 (AfterShock)
Infinite Speech: Margeurite Bennett and Ariela Kristantina wrap up the first volume and blow my expectations away with this awesome series!

The Joyners #3 (Archaia)
Infinite Speech: Sci-fi drama that is dark, visceral, and looks fantastic! And that is one huge tiger!

Justice League #3 (DC)klaus 7
Infinite Speech: This huge new threat is a little boring but Batman was offered a cookie and that’s pretty nice. Cool art though.
Martin: 3/5 stars. While the art is great, the story is a bit of a mess and the characterizations are off. Needs improvement.
NickZ: A story this epic is what the Justice League was created for! The characterization and art are perfect!

Klaus #7 (Boom!)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Great, satisfying ending to a fun, Morrison-esque take on “Santa Claus: Year One” along w/ great Mora artwork.

Lumberjanes #29 (Boom!)
NickZ: Lumberjanes returns to it’s roots with more mythological mayhem!

Mighty Thor #10 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Aaron & Dauterman once again put this series at the top of my reading list!

Mockingbird #6 (Marvel)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. The only Marvel book I’m reading! Fun, goofy story of Bobbi sneaking onto a Nerd Cruise w/ cosplay, RPGs & more

Nightwing #3 (DC)
Arnab: Raptor’s a nice touch to the series.
Infinite Speech
: This series is slowly growing on me but Dick’s love life is almost as dangerous as his hero life.
Martin: 4/5 stars. Raptor continues to be developed into an interesting, full-fledged character/partner. Batgirl cameo seemed “off”
NickZ: Dick descends deeper into the rabbit hole… never to return?

Poe Dameron #5 (Marvel)
NickZ: Prison riots, droid on droid violence, and Poe Dameron! What more could you want?

Power Man & Iron Fist #7 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: I’m pretty sure Walker was born to write this series and he’s got a great art team to back him.

Superf*ckers Forever #1 (IDW)
NickZ: This comic is pretty insane! I’m speechless. The variant cover by Ryan Ottley and John Rauch was pretty rad!

Supergirl Rebirth #1 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Suffers a bit from a large degree of “instantaneous retconning” but looks like the start of a good series

Superman #5 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Mahnke does well on fill-in art duties, plus it features the Hellbat suit on the moon! Makes for a fun issue.
NickZ: In a book filled with awesomeness, Lois in the Hellbat suit takes the cake! I love this series!

Tales From The Darkside #3 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: This issue sheds some light on the Darkside, increases the horror factor, & looks great!

Ultimates #10 (Marvel)uncanny avengers 12
Infinite Speech: America Chavez went straight WWE on Captain Marvel and it was one of the top moments in this series so far!

Uncanny Avengers #12 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Duggan & Larraz knocked this one clear out the park and into the cosmos!
NickZ: The Ultron/Hank Pym story line comes to a heated ending as the Avengers bring in the big guns.

The Wicked + The Divine #22 (Image)
NickZ: Holy S***! This book is worthy of a Shakespearean Comedy! Bravo Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie!

Wrath of the Eternal Warrior #10 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Now THAT was a damn good ending! Gilad has developed into a multi-layered kick ass character that’s worth checking out!
