Action Comics #1002 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Bendis continues dolling out little interesting nuggets, which are intriguing, but need to start coming a bit quicker. The supporting cast, with one major exception, are treated more properly this issue than some of Bendis’ previous attempts.
Amazing Spider-Man #4 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: This might not be my thing.
Aphrodite V #2 (Top Cow)
Infinite Speech: Bryan Hill has been on fire all across the comics industry and Aphrodite V is yet another example of his exciting storytelling while Jeff Spokes provides some moody visuals.
Avengers #6 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Celestial Sized Ghost Rider FTW! Straight up superhero excitement and I hope some kid reads this and discovers comics for the first time!
Avengers: Wakanda Forever #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: This series hits on so many levels and feels like a great old school Marvel team-up book!
Batman: Kings of Fear #1 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Kelley Jones’ 1990’s-inspired visuals help lift the score. The story is fine, but nothing particularly new or inventive, but the last page promises changes for the next issue. Check out my full review here.
Black Panther #3 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Black Panther in space is excellent thanks to Coates and Acuna!
Darth Vader #20 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: The epitome of Vader stories has been in this series and this issue doesn’t disappoint!
Detective Comics #987 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Another fire story from that Bryan Hill guy I mentioned earlier and now I have to impatiently wait his Batman and the Outsiders after finishing this one.
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. Great end to this arc. While this arc was uneven, & I wasn’t thrilled with the villain, I liked everything else about it, particularly the interactions between Black Lighting, Batman, & the rest of the Bat Family. Looking forward to Outsiders!
Executive Assistant: Iris #4 (Aspen)
Infinite Speech: I’m here for Iris’ take no sh*t attitude and assassin skills! I’ll need more from Northcott!
Flash #53 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Some background on Commander Cold sheds some light on a character that I’m starting to like.
Martin: 4/5 stars. I’ve always liked Flash’s relationship with the Trickster, the youngest of the Rogues. Commander Cold gets some interesting background development; he makes a fun & different (and hopefully temporary) companion for the Flash.
Hit-Girl #7 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Hit-Girl needs a day off.
Incidentals #11 (Lion Forge)
Infinite Speech: This is one dysfunctional team and I’m here for all of it!
Justice League: Dark #2 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Did not see that twist coming and I’m officially on board and liking Detective Chimp!
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. 2 issues in, and this is one crazy ride! Awesome, creepy, horror-inspired visuals, great characterization, the return of some classic characters, and very clever plot-twists. My comic of the week.
Shadowman #6 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: This fall through time has been some of the best storytelling of the Shadowman mythos but I can’t wait to see the end result!
Silencer #8 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Okay that was one hell of a cliffhanger!
Teen Titans #21 (DC)
Infinite Speech: I really want to like this series but I’m not sure if it knows what it wants to be yet. Kid Flash is now more annoying than Damian and that’s a feat unto itself!
Martin: 3/5 stars. There is actually potential for this title, but it hasn’t gelled yet. Part of that is the composition of the team. There are too many characters, many of them new, who haven’t been developed yet. Others act out-of-character (particularly Red Arrow).
Terrifics #7 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. The best of the New Age of Heroes titles has had a slow, methodical build-up, and it’s getting closer to mixing the Terrifics with Tom Strong, hinted at all the way back in issue #1. The retro visuals of the Tom Strong scenes are great.
Venom #5 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Cates and Stegman have given Venom a story and power upgrade and you should be reading every single issue! I just need the symbiote to wipe the blood off Eddie’s face though.
West Coast Avengers #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: I laughed and laughed some more and loved that an OG West Coast Avenger showed up to make things even crazier!
Wonder Woman #53 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. While I am enjoying this more than the previous arc, I found the story & pacing in this issue quite confusing. I also don’t read JLA or Red Hood, so have no connection to the two supporting characters, who are very underdeveloped in this.
