Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 06/21/17

All-Star Batman #11 (DC)
Infinite Speech: This look into Alfred’s past and Bruce’s present just gets better with each issue!

Aquaman #25 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Stjepan Sejic is drawing Aquaman and I’m here for it!

Batman #25 (DC)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. The start of a new, interesting arc, and it’s presented in a great way to take advantage of the climax to issue #24
NickZ: Tom King is starting another incredible story arc in his already masterful run of deconstructing Batman.

Crosswind #1 (Image)
Martin: 4/5 stars. The “twist” in this got blown for me, so I read it waiting for that to happen. That said – interesting concept.

Darth Vader #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: These Clone Troppers made the mistake of not running when Vader showed up. But we get our look at the first Jedi bred just to fight and I can’t wait to see them meet!

Destroyer #2 (BOOM!)
Infinite Speech: Two issues in and I’m hooked! More monsters and more Dr. Baker!

Doctor Strange #22 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Kingpin makes a LOTR reference and Spider-Woman screws it up all in one damn good issue.
NickZ: Seeing the Kingpin so out of his element, teaming up with heroes and dealing with the mystical world was entertaining.

G.I. Joe #6 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: After a slow start I’m starting to get into the new direction the Joe comics are going in.

Horizon #12 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Horizon is killing the sci-fi game right now and this creative team deserves all the praise!

Green Arrow #25 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. When this book is “on” it’s great. This issue is a kind of jumping-on point but doesn’t do the job that well.

Green Lanterns #25 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Volthoom’s secret is out of the bag, and it makes this issue a bit more tense, coupled with some great art.

Iceman #2 (Marvel)
NickZ: Iceman has never been cooler (I deserve to die for that one) thanks to Sina Grace, Ibraim Roberson, and Edgar Salazar!

Invincible #137 (Image)
NickZ: The “good” Viltrumites prepare for war while Robot continues to prove he is the worst!

Justice League #23 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. I really like Jessica Cruz, but her psychological issues are better handled in Humphries’ Green Lanterns.

Lobo/Road Runner #1 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Way too much set-up to get to the good parts of Lobo taking Wile E. Coyote cartoon style punishment.

Luke Cage #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Walker and Blake are giving us a Luke Cage worth reading and I’m going to need these two to stick around for a long time on this series!

Mighty Thor #20 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Odinson is like a salty high school kid and Volstagg now wields a hammer. It’s going to get pretty violent and we should all be happy about that.

The Old Guard #5 (Image)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. Seems to be flying under the radar, but it’s the end of an arc, so pick up the trade when it’s out. Great art

Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #1 (Marvel)
NickZ: Zdarsky and Kubert’s new Spider-man book is so fun and great and exactly what we need right now!

Rapture #2 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Once again the Deadside is my favorite place to visit thanks to Valiant!

Secret Empire: Brave New World #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Best thing about this was that we get a new Patriot. Worst thing about this was Hydra Bob.

Shaolin Cowboy: Who’ll Stop The Reign #3 (Dark Horse)
Infinite Speech: This book is balls to the wall crazy and you’ll want a front row seat for every single page!

Solarman #3 (Scout Comics)
Infinite Speech: The creative team goes out with a bang in the final issue of the mini-series!

Superman #25 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. I guess I’m biased, but I’m just not a Manchester Black fan. The rest of this is fine, with good art.
NickZ: We get a glimpse of Jon’s true potential and it is amazing!

Super Sons #5 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Borges’ art is the perfect style for this. Fun relationship explorations between Damian & Jon, and Bruce & Clark.
NickZ: Every single issue of this book has been delightful and this one is no different.
Infinite Speech: This is one of the best titles coming from DC at the moment.

Trinity #10 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. Really fantastic art, which sadly is in support of a lackluster story that doesn’t explore the Trinity at all.

Weapons of Mutant Destruction Alpha #1 (Marvel)
NickZ: Lady Deathstrike and Amadeus Cho are the oddest pairing of characters that somehow, strangely work.
Infinite Speech: Better than expected and I just might want more Deathstrike & Cho!

Wonder Woman/Tazmanian Devil #1 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. The main story is fine, but the short Looney Tunes back-up is really the star here. Hilarous!

X-Men Gold #6 (Marvel)
NickZ: Wha??? They are actually doing something with Rachel Grey besides giving her a stupid new name and costume?
