Action Comics Special #1 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. 3 stories by different creative teams. Jurgens’ story is the best & caps off his Action run. Russell’s story is very relevant (almost too on-the-nose) to today’s political arena. Landis’ story has great Manupul art but falls flat.
The Amazing Spider-Man FCBD (Marvel)
NickZ: This seems like a real step back for Parker in many was but it was funny and enjoyable and the main selling point on this title is Ryan Ottley’s art and he didn’t disappoint.
Astonishing X-Men #11 (Marvel)
NickZ: This team has a habit of destroying one monster by unleashing another and it’s not working out too well for them.
Avengers #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: The Big Three are getting a new team together and this issue made me want to see how this plays out for a while.
Barrier FCBD (Image)
NickZ: I went into this not know anything about this book and it went from a story about one thing into something completely different and unexpected and I can’t wait to read more!
Batman #46 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Booster Gold is the only character I hate more than Cyclops and this issue just has me asking why a guy this incompetent has such a huge following?!
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Although I typically enjoy alternate “elseworld” type stories, this one really makes no sense. Booster is acting like it’s his first time traipsing through time rather than protecting the timeline. The only good part is seeing a different side of Bruce.
NickZ: Booster gave Batman the worst wedding gift ever and it literally has become his worst nightmare! That last panel was hard to look at.
Cure of Brimstone #2 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. On the positive side, Annie’s character is developed a lot more, & there is an interesting supernatural mystery to explore. On the downside, this issue doesn’t do anything to develop Joe’s character at all, and he’s the main character.
DC Nation #0 (DC)
Infinite Speech: After this Superman still bores me, excited for Batman’s wedding, and No Justice is going to be CRAZY!!!
Martin: 4/5 stars. 3 new stories about the Joker, Superman, & the “No Justice” JL teams. Joker is creepy & darkly funny. Bendis’ Superman story is a good teaser, but Perry seems out-of-character. The No Justice stuff is intriguing, but too short. Great value, though!
NickZ: I am even more excited for Snyder’s Justice League book, and Tom King’s Joker story was brilliant, but I am very disappointed in Bendis Superman story. If this is where he is going with Supes then I have no interest. He’s taken Superman back to his roots but he is so beyond that now and that’s what made his entire rebirth title interesting and refreshing!
Death or Glory #1 (Image)
Infinite Speech: If you didn’t pick this up go to your LCS and get a copy! Remender and Bengal knocked it clear out the park!
Deathstroke #31 (DC)
Infinite Speech: What are Wintergreen and Alfred up too??
Martin: 4/5 stars. Deathstroke vs Batman continues. I’ve not read Priest’s earlier Deathstroke stuff, so I’m sure I’m missing a lot, but this is fun so far, with a lot of interesting twists and great handling of characters.
East of West #37 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. The story takes a slightly different, slower turn, to focus on the Ranger and his quest to kill all of the Chosen. There’s a great scene with the Ranger and War, Famine, & Conquest, and the art and coloring are tremendous.
FCBD: Avengers/Captain America #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Nice prelude to the new Avengers title but can Marvel editors agree on what suit Black Panther is going to wear.
FCBD: Malika #1 (YouNeek Studios)
Infinite Speech: Checked out a new title and now I want to know more! This is what FCBD is all about!
FCBD: My Hero Acadamia/RWBY (Viz Media)
Infinite Speech: Nice intro to each by highlighting the action. Hopefully new readers get pulled in their respective series.
Green Arrow #40 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. I was not a fan of the first part of this short 2-story arc, but this conclusion is much stronger, featuring better themes and characters. It also features one of my favorite colorists in comics.
Green Lanterns #46 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. So much great stuff happens in this issue! Even though some of it was already known, seeing HOW it happened is great, if disturbing. Adding depth to Simon’s Earth-3 doppelganger was a nice touch, and Constantine is always fantastic!
Harbinger Wars II: Prelude #1 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Can’t wait for this event to get started.
Infinity Countdown #3 (Marvel)
NickZ: This series has been amazing and has already had a ton of cool moments but who would have ever expected the Silver Surfer to go to THAT person and ask him to do THAT?!?
Rise of the Black Panther #5 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Nice update of the comic history of the character with subtle hints of the MCU thrown in.
Sex Criminals #24 (Image)
NickZ: Thank goodness our protagonists seem to being heading back together because this book doesn’t work as well when they are apart.
Spider-Man #240 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Very nervous about what Marvel will do with Miles after Bendis is gone but hat big fight was pretty cool.
Star Trek TNG Through the Mirror #1 (IDW)
NickZ: I am ecstatic that they are doing this follow up to Mirror Broken because that series was fantastic! And bring back the same team of David & Scott Tipton and J.K. Woodward AND adding Marcus To to this first issue was a match made in Trek heaven!
Venomized #5 (Marvel)
NickZ: This was a really fun event with some kick ass moments and Jean Grey once again proves why she is the baddest B in the Marvel Universe.
