Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 04/12/17

Action Comics #977 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. The slightly revamped origin could have been discarded for more details on Supes Reborn. Art is fantastic.
NickZ: I’m not sure we needed a retelling of Superman’s origin but the parallels of Krypton science deniers and Republican climate change deniers was inspired.

American Gods #2 (Dark Horse)
NickZ: The Story continues to develop with the perfect amount of mystery and intrigue.
Infinite Speech: This is becoming my new favorite story!

Black Panther and the Crew #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Even with Guice’s weird depictions of Misty’s afro I’m staying a bit for the story.

Captain America: Sam Wilson #21 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: We all knew it was coming but it was done well.

Copperhead #12 (Image)
NickZ: Things are escalating very quickly! There is so much good stuff going on in this book right now!

Detective Comics #954 (DC)
Arnab: I think it’s about time we get a Ra’s al Ghul story where he’s not such a big fuckup. Also, this issue needed better art.
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. A bit of a mis-step, with both Batman & Ra’s Al Ghul not quite acting in character, and some rough art.

Flash #20 (DC)
Arnab: Why does she have to be a villain though? I mean Barry and Iris 4 eva, I get it, but still.
Martin: 4/5 stars. Iris goes into full Lois Lane mode for a story, but there are some very awkward transitions between pages.
Infinite Speech: It was good but wonky in some places though that last page was quite unexpected!

Immortal Brothers: The Tale of the Green Knight #1 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: These guys need to get together more often in great stories like this.

Justice League of America #4 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. Looks great, but I’m still not sold on why Batman created this team & why they still work together
Infinite Speech: I’m going to bail on this until there’s a reason to come back.

Motor Crush #5 (Image)
Infinite Speech: Whoa! This should have been on your pull list since day one and now I can’t wait for the next issue!

Mosaic #7 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Finally, Mosaic gets a reality check and this feels like a very good restart though it’s technically not one.

Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern #3 (BOOM!/DC)
Infinite Speech: I’m still impressed with how much fun I’m having with this crazy ass crossover!

Power Man and Iron Fist #15 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Thanks to Walker and Greene for one hell of a ride with the Heroes for Hire!

ROM #9 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: ROM continues to be a hit with an exciting story and stunning art! But he really needs a win sometime soon.

Rose #1 (Image)
Martin: 4/5 stars. New fantasy world that doesn’t deviate much from most fantasy fare. Art & characters are enough to get me back for #2

Seven to Eternity #5 (Image)
NickZ: This series continues to be amazing! The Mud King is the most evil, manipulative, SOB in comics!

Supergirl #8 (DC)
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Some odd art choices as Supergirl looks cartoonish but Superman doesn’t. The Reborn parts don’t make sense.

Think Tank Animal #2 (Top Cow)
NickZ: The brilliance of Think Tank is how it can pull off being a political thriller, an emotional dramedy, and a science-faction story all at the same time!
Infinite Speech: Sometimes “Holy $#@!” is all you can say for one of the best comic series to come out in recent years!

Titans #10 (DC)
Arnab: That seemed particularly rushed.
Martin: 4/5 stars. Bumblebee steals the show, but suffers a major setback. Pacing is off to prep for the Deathstroke cross-over issue.
Infinite Speech: Could have used more Bumblebee kicking ass but what we got was fun even it did feel like it ended too quickly.

Weapon X #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: At least there’s one Greg on here that I’m liking a lot so the story is worth getting into. The visuals are a little flat and boring at times but passable.

Wonder Woman #20 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Cons: Wonder Woman is barely in this. Pros: Great depiction of Circe, Veronica Cale, & Adrianna the AI.

X-Men Blue #1 (Marvel)
Arnab: Much better than Gold. None of that wishy washy, let me apologize for being a mutant crap that Kitty was peddling.
NickZ: Now this felt like some old school X-Men goodness! I’m am fully on board with this book.
Infinite Speech: Now THAT was fun!
