Amazing Spider-Man #19.HU (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: These little stories in between the arc aren’t really necessary but the last two have been worth the read so get them
American Carnage #6 (DC/Vertigo)
Infinite Speech: Hill continues to hit hard with poignant social issues and a gripping crime drama so PICK THIS UP!!!
Avengers: No Road Home #10 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: The meta here was a little heavy handed but still fun to see play out. Herc even gets a new costume while Monica and Blue Marvel remind you how strong their love is. Can’t wait to see what’s next with Voyager though.
Batman #69 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Seeing Bane and Thomas spar was a refreshing break from Batman caught in these mental traps.
Martin: 3.5/5 stars. Art-wise, this gets a nearly perfect score. But, I can’t be the only one who thinks it a bit over-played that both Clark’s and Bruce’s fathers (albeit Bruce’s from another multiverse) are Crazy Evil Villains. It might have worked if they spaced it out.
East of West #42 (Image)
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. Magnificent art by Dragotta with excellent coloring by Martin make this a visual feast. Story-wise, this issue gives context to a feud going way back to issue #1, but due to the sporadic publishing schedule it’s difficult to keep things straight.
Electric Warriors #6 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. A satisfying end to this short 6-issue series. Orlando’s plotting throughout meant that he didn’t need to rush to come to a conclusion, which is something more writers should aspire to. I’d love to see him on both a LoSH & a Kamandi-ongoing.
Farmhand #7 (Image)
Infinite Speech: I really hope you’re reading Rob Guillory’s latest tale because it’s got everything a great comic needs from the narrative to the artwork!
Justice League #22 (DC)
Infinite Speech: We get the origin of everything and this is what a perfect team book looks like folks!
Martin: 4/5 stars. I love the big, epic cosmic history as depicted in this issue. It’s grand like an issue of Justice League should be. But, on the downside, the Justice League hardly figures into this as well. This arc seems like 1 that might be better read in trade.
Kick-Ass #13 (Image)
Infinite Speech: With Maurice finally out of his coma this was a pretty predictable issue so hopefully we get to see something new in the issues to come.
The Life and Death of Toyo Harada #2 (Valiant)
Infinite Speech: Joshua Dysart is writing some of the best Harada moments while Cafu & Butch Guice makes it all look fantastic! His “death” better be metaphysical because I can’t see another favorite character kick the bucket in 2019.
Miles Morales: Spider-Man #5 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Saladin Ahmed has established Miles’ voice and this is how he should be written all the time! He’s so Brooklyn and his civilian life is just as exciting to read as the superhero action that’s packed in!
Naomi #4 (DC)
Infinite Speech: This jaw dropping reveal about Naomi came out of nowhere and now Walker, Bendis, and Campbell have me impatiently waiting for next issue! WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN??!!!
Martin: 4/5 stars. As a CHARACTER, Naomi is great – intriguing, relatable, and “real.” As a TITLE, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. Bendis’ slow plotting means that, although big things happen this issue, it’s still unclear what their meaning is. This is still a good book, though.
Shuri #7 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Shuri, Ms. Marvel, and Miles need to team up more often because everything about this was great and that last page was just perfect!
Spider-Man: Life Story #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: We’re in the 70’s now and it’s the decade that kicks everyone’s butt!
Thor #12 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: This issue makes me actually miss Kid Loki! Great tie-in to the War of the Realms but Loki has seen much better days.
Transformers #3 (IDW)
Infinite Speech: Well I was going to drop this series if this issue didn’t start turning things around but with the introduction of Quake and Geomotus I’m sticking around for a bit. Kudos to Ruckley for introducing and Autobot on the spectrum. That was pretty damn cool to see.
War of the Realms #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: You ever do your job too good and make things worse? Well that’s Doctor Strange here and now we’re down a Valkyrie.
Xena: Warrior Princess #1 (Dynamite)
Infinite Speech: This entire creative team as on fire with this issue and for Xena fans they did right by you! Hopefully they keep this same energy for quite some time!
