Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 9/1/2010

Welcome to Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews! Here you can find out what we at ComicAttack.net thought of this past week’s new books in 140 characters or less! Make sure to come back each week to see what we have to say about the latest comics!

2000 AD #1700 (2000 AD)
Aron: Tales of a twisted serial killer, a zombie hunter, werewolves with the full moon on day 9, and some futuristic stuff! THIS IS GREAT!

Angelus #5 (Top Cow)
Andy: Wow! I needed to get two copies of this one: one to collect and the other to keep in-between my mattress as a ‘readers copy.’

Avengers The Children’s Crusade #2 (Marvel)
Jeff: There’s nothing about this I don’t like. I especially loved the DC references.
Nick: I don’t read any other Avengers books, but I’m really digging these kids and where this story is headed.

The Boys #46 (Dynamite)
Andy: Butcher, you’re a sick bastard…but I suppose it had to happen.

Brightest Day #9 (DC)
Aron: This crap series is finally getting good. Aquaman is still lame.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #36 (Dark Horse)
Nick: Spike added to any story makes it 10 times better and the unexpected cameo at the end…..wow.

Critical Millennium #2 (Archaia)
Decapitated Dan: Read it. It’s fun, futuristic and wordy. Well worth the cover price.

Franken-Castle #20 (Marvel)
Andy: Ok this is weird…I actually don’t hate Franken-Castle anymore. WTF…
Nick: I’m glad this Wolverine cross-over is done so i don’t have to read any more Franken-Castle stories!

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #158 (IDW)
Andy: THE Joe title to be reading! Skip the others and stay right here!!

Groo #1 for $1 (Dark Horse)
Aron: Wow! This stuff is GREAT! GROOvy!

Haunt #9 (Image)
Andy: The art is gruesomely detailed, and the story is really taking its own shape. I’m still onboard!

House of Mystery #29 (Vertigo)
Aron
:
A lot of babies were eaten. And a talking, gun totin’, big stuffed bunny rabbit saved the day, too.

Incredible Hulks #612 (Marvel)
Andy: I never thought I’d be into a Hulk book; thank you Greg Pak! A perfect jumping on point if you’ve been away awhile.

iZombie #5 (Vertigo)
Aron: This isn’t a horror comic. It’s more like a “Friends” remake with a monster cast.
Jeff: It felt like this was the end of the arc, but nothing really happened.

Jack of Fables #47 (Vertigo)
Andy: Jack vs Jack is next! My money’s on Jack.

Kevin Smith’s Green Hornet #7 (Dynamite)
Andy: The only Green Hornet book you really should be reading. The art and coloring is great and the story is finally moving past the expo.
Aron: This was probably the most boring and uneventful issue in this series. What happened to lucky #7?

Kevin Smith’s Green Hornet Annual #1 (Dynamite)
Andy: Thought it was really well done- loved the fight between an older Kato and Coach Pollard. $5.99 is waaaaaay too much though. I mean come on now.

Origins of Marvel Comics: X-Men #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Good for the casual X-fan or someone who has been out of the X-loop. It was cool seeing all the different artists work on the various X-characters!

Our Army at War: Sgt. Rock #1 (DC)
Andy: The first book I read last week and easily my #1 pick. Some of the 9/11 visuals really hit home.

Scarlet #2 (Icon)
Aron: Slow moving, but going somewhere. Intriguing. And wordy. Very wordy.

Shadowland #3 (Marvel)
Aron: I’m not sure what to make of this. Am I witnessing the ruination of my favorite character of all-time, witnessing something retarded, or both?  Kung Fu this!

Shadowland: Elektra #1 (Marvel)
Aron: Dumb. Pointless. Art is ugly.

Sky Doll: Lacrima Christi #2 (Marvel/Soleil)
Decapitated Dan: I’m sad the SC ride is now over. At least it’s one less Marvel title. Awesome shorts though. I already miss it.

Superman the Last Family of Krypton #2 (DC)
Andy: Just awesome…and I don’t like Superman.
Nick: One of the best Elseworlds stories in a long time.

Sweet Tooth #13  (Vertigo)
Andy: I just want to see Jepperd destroy some a-holes. My favorite Vertigo book right now.
Aron: This series just took another twist. I love it! This book is like a crazy straw for your eyes!

Taskmaster #1 (Marvel)
Andy: I was into it…but does this mean I have to go and read Age of Heroes #3 now? Ugh…

Wolverine #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Sooo how did Wolvie GET to Hell? That’s what I wanna know…
Aron: This is just plain weird. Not interested in the Silver Samurai, either. Sorry.
Jeff: Why are all the clergy in the X-books getting butchered? First Nightcrawler, now Wraith? Great start, though, to what looks like a good ride!

Wolverine Road to Hell #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Not worth $3.99 but a good, if not necessary, intro book.
Jeff: Good little teasers to the upcoming family of Wolverine books. Can’t wait for Uncanny X-Force!
Nick: Interesting start to all these new Wolverine books, but really could Cavern-X be anymore of a rip off of the Batcave?

X-Men: Curse of the Mutants: Namor the First Mutant #1 (Marvel)
Andy: Namor is off to find Dracula’s most important part, his wie-head. His head. This issue was bad ass.

X-Men: Curse of the Mutants: Smoke & Blood #1 (Marvel)
Andy: I love the X-Club! Sure, the art was rough, but the story was great! Plus, a key plot point with the vampires is revealed!
Jeff: Absolute waste of money. Unless you like boring, overly-jargoned, and horribly drawn comics.

Young Allies #4 (Marvel)
Jeff: Is anyone reading this book? It’s surprisingly good!

    “Kung-Fu this.”

One of the best lines ever.

  2. Aron

That Punisher line was great! Much better than his appearance in the Civil War series when he was in the secret meeting and then was like, “Oh! Bad guys!” BANG! BANG! Wait…that was pretty funny. Stupid, but funny!

  3. InfiniteSpeech

In regards to Scarlet “wordy” is good Aron especially when done right!

  4. Aron

True, Speech. It was pretty good.

I didn’t get Incredible Hulks #612 read in time to chirp but I freakin’ loved it!

  5. Billy

I can’t wait to read Childrens Crusade.

  6. Andy

Man I sucked this week. I didn’t get to 14 of my books from last week!!

    : (

  7. Arnab

Children’s Crusade is the only Avengers book I read and it’s all kinds of awesome.

  8. Nick

Andy that’s not too bad considering you probably had like 30 comics on your pull list.
