Character Spotlight: Yuji Itadori

Sometimes it takes someone who just wants to help others to fight off the foulest evil. It’s not perfect, but being caring can be quite powerful. Yuji Itadori is one such individual, fighting against one of the greatest evils the world has ever seen as well as other evils that plague the Earth. So who is Yuji Itadori and why is he in this predicament? Let’s find out!

Yuji Itadori was raised by his grandfather, Wasuke, as his parents were no longer in the picture, sadly. Yuji grew up to be a kind and athletic kid, though he had no interest in sports. This would drive his school up the wall, desiring for the boy to join any sports club or team to be their shining star. He instead took a liking to the occult club, enjoying the company of his fellow members and their enthusiasm for weird phenomenon. It also helped that his membership brought their member total to the necessary three person minimum to continue existing at the school.

By the time Yuji was fifteen, his grandfather was living in an elderly home where Yuji was his only visitor. Wasuke would tell Yuji to be sure to be surrounded by people who loved him and he loved back, not be alone like the old man was likely going to be. Soon, his grandfather would die, leaving him with words encouraging him to help those who need it. Yuji would take this to heart as he left his grandfather for the last time.

While out with the club, Yuji’s friends would discover their school had some strange, cursed relic on campus. The three would take it out of its shrine to study it after school and quickly learned that magic was real in a very bad way. Suddenly, they were beset by some sort of demonic creature and trapped within their school. Both his friends were grabbed by the creature and Yuji was able to save both of them thanks to a young man, Megumi, who was capable of fighting the monster and had been seeking the relic.

Megumi explained that this was a cursed creature who was seeking out the relic Yuji and his friends had taken from the shrine. The relic was a finger from the most powerful evil sorcerer to have ever lived, Ryomen Sukuna. The creature was seeking the relic out to gain its power. Megumi would use magic powers to fight it and tell Yuji to keep the finger away from the monster. So… Yuji swallowed it. This granted the sorcerer, Sukuna, the ability to gain possession of Yuji’s body and mind, but the sorcerer couldn’t take it for whatever reason. Yuji could access some of his strength, speed, and durability, while giving Sukuna control when he felt like it.

The fight was won but now there was the dilemma of what to do with Yuji. Megumi’s teacher, Gojo, would take Yuji in for execution but saw that the boy had potential so was able to stay the order. Yuji could be trained to use his powers and could be used to help find the other fingers of Sukuna, twenty in total, to keep safely within their order, the Jujutsu sorcerers. Yuji would learn his friends had survived the ordeal with the monster but Yuji would now move to a new school, leaving them behind.

Moving to the Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College, Yuji would be working alongside Megumi and fellow new classmate, Nobara. The three would train to use their own curse powers and get real life experience in fighting curses that plague the world around them. Yuji would find these two and their teacher to be like a new family for himself.

There you have it! There’s more to Yuji’s story and the rest of the Jujutsu sorcerers but that tale is still told. Yuji and company have made their appearances on the small screen and will eventually reach the big screen. See you next time!
