Character Spotlight: Viv Vision

Not a robot, not a human, a synthezoid. That’s what the Vision family are when it comes to categories. Viv Vision the daughter to one of the Avengers and in her short time, great tragedy has followed her. What would you do if you could shut your emotions off? Viv Vision can do that and so much more, so how does a synthezoid have kids and how does one be such a child? Let’s find out!

Vivian Vision was created along with her twin brother, Vin, by her parents, Vision and Virginia Vision. Using their parent’s personality patterns, Viv and her brother are a mixture of their parents minds, quite literally. Her father a famous Avenger, she and her brother were often seen at school as something else, literally floating on air to their next classes. One of her father’s old enemies, would attack the family in their home, leaving Viv badly injured. It would take the combined effort of her father and Tony Stark to repair her. Viv would befriend a young man who she was possibly developing feelings for but he would go missing. It was soon revealed that Viv’s mother was losing control of herself in her need for normalcy and had killed the boy and his father when the father had threatened her family. Viv would also lose her brother to her cousin, when it was discovered their cousin was spying on them for the Avengers. Viv’s mother would kill again and end her killing spree with herself.

All of this death and loss of family, Viv would shut off her emotions so as to not have to deal with the trauma of what had happened. Now just her and her father, she would take up heroism like he had, joining the Champions. Here, she would find a new family with friends her own age. They would go on many adventures, this would lead her to the High Evolutionary. Using his abilities, he would advance Viv’s synthezoid body into that of an entirely human one. Now far weaker in her human form, she would have to outwit the High Evolutionary and his son, the Higher Evolutionary, to stop Earth from colliding with their planet. This would work but in the process, the Avengers and the Champions believed Viv had died in saving the world, but in actuality she was stuck in a variation of the digital cloud.

Her father having believed she had died, began to build a new Viv synthezoid, this connection to the original Viv allowed her to return to Earth. Problem was, Vision had finished Viv 2.0 so there was now a human Viv and a synthezoid Viv existing concurrently. The Vision family would do their best to live as a father and two daughters, but original Viv felt weak compared to her synthezoid family. On top of that, she had no filters for her emotions and was finally having to cope with all this horrible stuff that has happened. She was worried that her new sister didn’t like her, which turned out to be true due to a virus she had acquired from her father when he had built her, this manifested as the new Viv desiring to kill the old one. Viv would have to stab Viv 2.0 and fleeing in panic at what she had just done.

The Champions and her father were able to find out what had happened by reading 2.o’s memories and while they did all they could, they could only repair her body. 2.0’s mind was gone and Viv decided she would like to have her mind reuploaded to her sister’s body to be synthezoid once more. Now there was once again, one Viv Vision, synthezoid teen hero, able to shut her emotions off in a single moment. Back with the Champions though, she would learn she may want her emotions back on, for she and fellow teammate Ironheart, may be developing feelings for one another but they are taking things slow.

There you have it! Viv Vision has been a delightful addition to teen hero roster and definitely is relatable for her desire to shut down her emotions entirely. She’s not the first teen Vision, but she is most likely the best. Will we ever see her in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Only time will tell. See you next time!
