Character Spotlight: Justice League Dark

Things can go bump in the night and sometimes the most powerful heroes may not be the ones for bumping back. Collecting the more magically inclined heroes to solve the strange and unusual events that can go on in the world might be the best idea. Justice League Dark is the paranormal branch of the Justice League and they’re bringing as much magic as they can. How did they got formed? Let’s find out!

One of the most powerful precognitives, Madame Xanadu, was able to foresee a great danger and used her connections in the occult world to unite several heroes to deal with a coming threat. The Enchantress would lose her mortal connection to her human form, June Moone, allowing her free reign. Xanadu would gather Deadman, John Constantine, Zatanna, Mindwarp, and Shade, the Changing Man to help her in keeping Enchantress from kidnapping June.

The protection wouldn’t work but together, they were able to stop Enchantress, reluctantly so, by binding her once more with June. This caused the team to disband in disgust at failing to free June for good, but nightmares would have something to say about this matter. Constantine, Deadman, Shade, and Zatanna started having reoccuring nightmares of a coming disaster. Returning to Xanadu, she would interpret that this was the true vision she had seen as to why they must form a team, to stop this coming doom.

Andrew Bennett, a prominent vampire, would die and this would allow Cain, the first vampire, to return to Earth. Being first has its privileges for vampires and would begin taking over every vampire on the planet. This was the apocalypse the team’s dreams foretold, they had to stop Cain by returning Bennett to fight against Cain. The team would get things in order but they did cause a new vampire king to exist but he seemed to ally with them.

While the team had existed for some time, it wasn’t until they worked with Steve Trevor that they were dubbed Justice League Dark. They would deal with exes and the Books of Magic, having to stop yet another apocalypse. A team up with the primary Justice League was in order when Wonder Woman requested the team’s aide in dealing with a problem she believes is magical in nature.

This would begin their first excursion with Wonder Woman but not their last, as the team would eventually be lead by her. There would be team shake ups and some members would leave while new members would join in. The Justice League Dark was proving to be more than just any one group, having a team that’s ready to deal with the weirdness of magic and mystery.

There you have it! Justice League Dark is a fairly recent development in the history of the Justice League. They’ve gotten to give many of DC’s most mystical characters the spotlight more often than they ever did before. They’ve been animated as a movie and individual members have shown up in animation and live action. See you next time!
