Tired of Sparkly Vampires?

Dark Horse Comics has decided to do vampires right with their new series, Baltimore: The Plague Ships! Check out this promo image for the series:

The solicit reads as:

“Months after a devastating plague ends World War I, Europe is suddenly flooded with deadly vampires. Lord Henry Baltimore, a soldier determined to wipe out the monsters, is on the hunt for the creature responsible for this chaos and his own personal tragedy. What he uncovers is a terror as horrific and frightening as any he’s seen on the battlefield.”

Sounds damn cool to me! I really like the WWI theme that’s attached to it as that morose setting and gritty time period works well with the vampire genre. I’m usually skeptical of vampire themed books as it’s obviously an “in thing” today, but works like American Vampire (Vertigo) and Turf (Image) give me hope for the genre. Baltimore: The Plague Ships is written by Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden, with art by Ben Stenbeck (who also worked on Witchfinder). And now for a cover gallery of the first three issues:

So be sure to check out Baltimore: The Plague Ships when it hits shelves on August 4th!

I’m not tired of sparkly vampires. I’m just tired of vampires. Can they please, please go away already?
