Writer Sam Johnson is at it again! His satirical “Avengers” are nothing short of hilarious. This latest edition of The Almighties presents the origins of the team, and believe me, it’s one of the funniest origin stories you’ll ever read. Any time you can incorporate an “A-Team” reference into a comic book, you know it’s gonna be a good one!
The issue starts out with Stefanos, as he’s visiting the White House, and the half man/half robot Joe Cyborg. Joe reveals to Stefanos the origins of his teammates. The Cyborg tells him that he’s getting a group of soldiers together, and wants to know the team’s strengths and weaknesses. They agree that most of the team can either be trusted or controlled. The werewolf origin story is the best of all the tales. Although, it would have been nice to see some more crazy killings from him!
This issue was pretty good, and it’s good to see The Almighties back in a comic book! It feels like it’s been a long time since we last saw these heroes, but it was worth the wait! The origins are hilarious, as they are a spoof on some mainstream heroes from years gone by. The writers (Sam and Mike) were very hands on with this project, and it shows.
The artwork was also quite good, from pencils, to colors, and even the letters. Cover artist Juan Ramirez did a very solid job, and hopefully he’ll be doing even more work in the near future. So for now, that’s all, but get to your computer, and get this issue! Indie comics like this one need a home so that unknown creators can get their foot in the door!
