Chirpin’ Tuesday Reviews 08/08/12

Adventure Time: Marceline and The Scream Queens #2 (Kaboom!)
NickZ: Marceline and PB are the best odd couple in comics today. This book is ALGEBRAIC!

American Vampire: Lord of Nightmares #3 (Vertigo)
Arnab: I don’t know how Scott Snyder does it, but he keeps churning out these amazing stories. A

Batgirl #12 (DC)
Arnab:
Are you kidding me? Oracle would have chewed Batwoman up and spit her out in pieces. B
NickZ: I would’ve thought Babs would have been able to take down Batwoman.

Batman #12 (DC)
Arnab:
I love Harper. And her brother. This story was absolutely fabulous. A
Dr. Bustos:
I want more of Harper Row. Great art and great character. A+
NickZ: A complete filler story, but I totally loved it! Snyder can do no wrong in my book… or in this one, apparently.

Batman and Robin #12 (DC)
Arnab: This book accomplished one thing. It made me miss the Dick/Damian dynamic in the previous Batman and Robin. C+
NickZ:
I really like that this was the first time we’ve ever seen Batman fighting along side all of the (boy) Robins.

Before Watchmen #2 (DC)
NickZ: This was a really well written story but I just don’t feel it adds anything to the Watchmen Universe.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 9 #12 (Dark Horse)
NickZ: The return of Wolfram and Heart and the Buffster turns to an unlikely ally for help. Not her smartest move.

Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe #2 (Marvel)
Arnab: I like Spiderman, but after that fiasco that was Avengers vs. X-Men #9, I couldn’t help but smile when his head was blown off. A
NickZ: While most of these killings were so unbelievable, the twisted ending more than made up for it.

Fanboys vs. Zombies #5 (Boom!)
Arnab:
It’s be the start of a new arc and Humphries and Gaylord deliver a fantastic, exciting story. A

Fantastic Four #609 (Marvel)
Arnab:
I don’t think Franklin’s pet Galactus would be pleased by this. A-

Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. #12 (DC)
Dr. Bustos: Frankenstein is able to be a total badass and unite an army willing to save his life, that’s endearing. A

Gambit #1 (Marvel)
Arnab: Superb. The art in this book was stunning. Mann, Mann, Rosenberg illustrate a gorgeous book, while Asmus delivers an exciting script. A-
Dr. Bustos:
This takes Gambit back to his thief roots, I’m liking these solo comics that have little superheroics. B+
NickZ: Although I’m not the biggest Gambit fan, this book had a solid start and I’m up for the next issue.

Marceline and the Scream Queens #2 (kaboom!)
Dr. Bustos: The band may be going places, whether or not that’s the big top or the big house, is yet to be seen. B-

The New Avengers #29 (Marvel)
Arnab; “Or are you worried that, with the Phoenix under control, the world is going to be a better lace with no place for you in it?”
NickZ: Who would have thought that Reed Richards would be the one to give the Avengers a face slapping dose of truth? Bravo. Finally!

Scarlet Spider #8 (Marvel)
NickZ: Chris Yost just brings it with every issue of this book. This is what a good comic book looks like.

Spider-Men #4 (Marvel)
Dr. Bustos: 616 Pete is able to talk to Ultimate Gwen and May, it was nice. Ultimate Fury has the best response on learning of his 616 counterpart. A

Superboy #12 (DC)
Arnab: I want old Kon back. B
NickZ:
It’s always fun when they show Superboy in everyday situations, seeing as how he has no concept of what “real life” is.

Wolverine #311 (DC)
NickZ:
How many years can they stretch this Wolverine/Sabretooth/Romulus crap on for?

X-Men Legacy #271 (Marvel)
Arnab: And… dropped. C
NickZ:
So Rogue is trapped in an alternate planet/universe? Good! She should stay there as far as I’m concerned.
