Welcome to Contest of Champions (CoC) Podcast, Episode #13! CoC is an interactive player vs. player game where your favorite Marvel characters go head to head to answer the eternal question of “who can beat whom in a fight?”
Join Jeff Jackson and Ian Johnson every week as they welcome two team managers who have a stable of five characters each ready to blast, zap, snikt, thwip, and smash their way to be the last one standing! It’s a little bit fan fiction, a little bit debate, a little bit role playing, and a whole bunch of fun! It’s an interactive adventure for the managers, and for the ComicAttack.net community.
This week, we’re joined by Eli Anthony & Tom McNeely!
First, we want to remind you, if you are a comic artist, and you would like to provide a sketch or drawing of the characters battling this week, please send a link to your sketch to jeff@comicattack.net or capekiller@comicattack.net. We would love to spotlight your stuff!
Next, on this episode we shared our weekly Fights of the Week!
Tom went back to Batman & Robin #2 by Peter Tomasi & Patrick Gleason, where Damian takes his frustrations out on some dummies and a poor bat; and also talks about Aquaman #1 by Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis.
Eli pulls out a trade from last year with Taskmaster by Fred Van Lente & Jefte Palo, which has Taskmaster taking a bunch agents from various organizations to school and giving them failing grades!
Jeff actually gives X-Men #20 by Victor Gischler & Will Conrad a good grade because of the War Machine vs. Colossus fight!
Ian likes the new direction taken in Avengers Academy #21 by Christos Gage & Sean Chen, especially when Mettle punches Luke Cage, which everyone can enjoy.

Tom, buddy, lets see what we can get going. I contend that Stormbreaker is the difference maker. Both of these guys have planet shattering power, but only one of them has a hammer empowered by Odin. (That would be Beta Ray Bill)
Another reason to vote for Bill, is that he’s in a rare group of people that I think only has two members. Reed Richards being the other. Bill has almost killed, in fact holding the life of GALACTUS in his hands, and then saving the life of the cosmic devourer.
And he has the face of a horse. I think I’ve mentioned that before, but it needs to be mentioned again. I’m not sure why that makes him so cool, but it does.
Vote for Beta Ray Bill.
Mighty Thor #445. Masterson vs Kallark,
That’s all I’m gonna say.
Wow Dan, very interesting, I had forgotten about that fight. I just looked it up. Thor (Masterson) takes abuse from Gladiator, but its not enough. Thor finally knocks Gladiator out cold with Mjolnir, and Wonder Man and Vision have to stop him from continuing his brutal assault.
So, Gladiator and Thor went round and round a bit, but then Thor nails Kallark with Mjolnir and the fight is over. Gladiator is out cold.
Gladiator has fallen to a cosmic level guy wielding an Asgardian-powered hammer. A lesser man than Beta Ray Bill even. I think BRB is in a good position to take the Strontian down.
Vote Beta Ray Bill!
I’ve got a good idea about Beta Ray Bill from Eli’s previous fight with him. But I’d like more about Gladiator.
Dan, who has Gladiator gone up against and won? Who has beaten him?
I”m leaning more toward Gladiator just because I’m an old school X-Men fan, but once again Eli has brought up some very convincing arguments…
Moses, Gladiator has been beaten by Cannonball, and Thor (Eric masterson), among others. If you look at their feats of strength, both figters are similar in power and abilities. Except for Stormbreaker. That little gift from Odin tips the scales.
Gladiator all the way. The dude is scary.
…even though Cannonball beat him.
A dude with purple skin and a pink Mohawk is scarier than a horsefaced cyborg with a giant hammer?
Andy has obviously gone crazy.
What he really means is to vote for Beta Ray Bill!
