Savage Avengers returns with a new line-up and it’s absolutely crazy for all the right reasons! David Pepose starts things off with with a touch of nostalgia before dropping us in the middle of a Conan bloodbath. In the midst of the bodies and carnage, Pepose reminds us that the warrior is a man out of time and it’s something that is weighing heavily on him. However, the narrative really begins to shine in the introductions to the rest of the makeshift team. Each one builds on the next and regardless of your familiarity with each, you’re given exactly what you need to suit this story. Unfortunately, my only gripe is with the two characters I was most excited to see. Maybe it’s because someone is constantly writing Cloak about to profess his love for Dagger at the wrong time every time! It’s like bad timing and not being able to read the situation is a latent mutation or something. This little hiccup aside, Pepose does craft a great story here that’s accessible to those who have been reading Savage Avengers since day one but more importantly, to new readers just checking out the series.

The visual storytelling is pretty solid as Magno and Grundetjern deliver on all fronts. That first page just really hits the nostalgia feels for anyone who is fan of the Predator movies. The action sequences themselves are well paced and filled with so much eye candy you’ll want to go over them more than once. Especially the Conan vs Deathlok panels that build to the huge brawl right before the cliffhanger.

Savage Avengers #1 is that comic that reminds you how much fun these stories are supposed to be and this creative team seems intent on giving us something worth adding to our read piles!

Deathlok!!! I’ve been out of the comics game for a while, but it’s nice to pole my head through the door, come here for the latest and fall upon recent comics that still feature Deathlok! Which version is this? Looks like Michael Collins. Is it 616 Deathlok?

Unfortunately it’s not Collins but his identity was a HUGE surprise! Pretty sure you can go online and find out who he is but we just don’t want to spoil it here! lol
      Appreciate you coming by though!
