Accell #10 (Lion Forge)
Infinite Speech: A solid issue to jump in on if you’re new to the series but the cliffhanger was weak.
Astonisher #7 (Lion Forge)
Infinite Speech: More on Magnus’ powers and the bad guys get Sasha! Now THIS is a cliffhanger that makes you impatient for the next issue!
Batman White Knight #8 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Although the Joker parts were a bit uneven, & Batman was never the focus he could have been, I really liked how Harley was handled, as well as the conclusion with Alfred’s letter and Batman’s meeting with Jim Gordon.
NickZ: A fantastic re-imagining of Batman with such great twist and turns that dives deep into the pros and cons of Batman’s very existence in Gotham. Kudos to Sean Murphy for making an epic Batman story that looks as incredible (if not more so) as it reads.
Eric: Sean Murphy sticks the landing!!! What an end to the glorious ride that is White Knight. Harley is the real MVP!!!
Barrier #1&2 (Image)
NickZ: When a book is over-sized and must be read horizontally, you know it has to be something special, and this series is no exception! The visuals are literally out of this world and the use of dual languages to tell a fascinating story of two people with diametrically opposed views forced to work together in an unimaginable situation is brilliant!
Darth Vader #16 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: The Mon Cals are no joke but neither are Vader and the Inquisitors! Oh and the Jedi just flipped the script with Order 66!!
Detective Comics #980 (DC)
Martin: 4/5 stars. While I haven’t been a fan of “Future Dark Jerk-face Tim,” I liked this issue due to the focus on Stephanie Brown & Cassandra Cain and showing glimpses of their former pre-New 52 versions of their characters.
Domino #2 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: Why wasn’t Gail Simone on a Domino title years ago, Marvel?! This story is crazy good!
NickZ: It’s obvious Gail Simone is having a blast writing this book and I am all about it! (At least until she inevitably makes fun of Cyclops)
Eric: I think Gail is having too much fun playing with Dominos powers and her enormous friends list. This is cool as hell.
Flash #46 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Never been a huge Wally fan so this issue wasn’t for me. Still a solid read though.
Martin: 4/5 stars. Brings a bit of depth to Hunter Zolomon as a villain, but the really great part is a small aside with Barry and Alfred in the Batcave. As a “set-up” issue for Flash War, it really works.
Isola #2 (Image)
Martin: 4/5 stars. Stunning art puts this ahead of other typical fantasy fare, but the story also gets a chance to expand a lot more this time, after the initial set-up last issue. I love that the creative team allow the art to tell the story instead of relying on narration.
Justice League: No Justice #1 (DC)
Infinite Speech: In just one panel Hal proves why he’s my least favorite Lantern. But other than that this was a great start to what’s hopefully a fun event!
Martin: 4.5/5 stars. This start of a new big event comic has a lot going for it, led by Manapul’s spectacular character designs and fun, splashy layouts, with some fun Silver Age characters. Read my full review here!
NickZ: Not since before the New 52 have we had a story that is as worthy of the Justice League as this one! The combination of characters, their interactions, and the scope of this story make it a must read! Not to mention, Manapul killing it with these amazing visuals and with the shear amount of characters in every panel, that is no small feat!
Oblivion Song #3 (Image)
NickZ: Kirkman and De Felici are doing a great job of world building while still keeping the story very intimate and character driven. I can’t wait to see where the story goes next.
Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #304 (Marvel)
NickZ: Spidey and his pals did a real number on the past and now they are realizing first hand how dangerous it is to screw with time. Also, Venom-Thing is awesome!
Southern Bastards #20 (Image)
Infinite Speech: So glad to be back in the Dirty South of Craw County and Roberta had her daddy’s stick back! I can’t wait to see Coach Boss finally get what’s coming to him!
Star Wars: Thrawn #4 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: It’s a wonder the Empire survived as long as it did with all of the backstabbing and manipulations.
Venom #1 (Marvel)
Infinite Speech: I’m confused, excited, intrigued and having fun so I’ll be sticking with this for a bit. Oh, and Stegman brought the McFarlane webs back!!
NickZ: This is a real departure from the previous Venom series, much darker and psychological. I’m not sure if I prefer Venom this way but it’s intrigued me enough to keep reading.
Wild Storm: Michael Cray #7 (DC)
Infinite Speech: Quite possibly my favorite of the series so far! The creative team is killing it! Check out the full review here!
Wonder Woman #46 (DC)
Martin: 3/5 stars. I thought having some of Diana’s prior villains show up could lead to a fun issue, but there’s not enough depth to the main story to showcase the villains. Then there’s also the Jason b-story which has no place in the issue.
X-Men Blue #27 (Marvel)
NickZ: I’m really digging this group of X-Men that Polaris has assembled and I’m also liking this new evolution in Magneto’s character. With all that said, I am desperate to learn more about this “Countdown to Extermination”!
