Salem’s Daughter: The Haunting #4
Publisher: Zenescope
Writer: Ralph Tedesco
Artist: Allan Otero (cover by Stjepan Sejic)
How far would you go to help someone you love? Well, Braden Cole is about to find out. He and Lettia (hot voodoo chick from the town) are about to try and use some very ancient spells to try and rid Anna of the evil spirit that someone has placed inside her. As Anna lies burning up with fever, she has a dream (or is it?) that one of her tormentors from years ago, Darius, is there and trying to strike a deal with her. Anna of course refuses him, and he in turn tells her that she’ll regret it sooner than later. It’s up to Braden and Lettia to exorcise the spirit from within or Anna will end up dead! All this, plus Braden makes a discovery about the identity of Anna’s evil enemy!
Wow, was this a great issue! I was really hoping this book would go to even greater heights than the last couple, and it most certainly did. I love the fact that Anna is very powerful, but she still can be struck down with the right type of magic. The dynamic between Braden and Anna is basically one of two people who want to be together, but for whatever reason they stay apart (from a relationship standpoint). This is the best part about this book, but I did notice that it seemed like Braden was kind of awestruck by Lettia and her beauty. Tedesco and Brusha have a solid book on their hands, and I for one want to see it keep soaring!
The artist, Allan Otero, is quite good, as well. His visuals really fit this book perfectly, and I hope he stays on for a while. His characters are right on, but when he has to draw something unnatural, he doesn’t miss a beat. And how about that cover? Even if you don’t go crazy over covers like I do, you have to appreciate the talent that Sejic brings to the table. I mean, seriously, look at that work. It’s amazing! I can’t wait for next month and the continuation of this story, because I know there is magical Armageddon on the way! Rating 4/5
