Hey everybody, I’m back with another great week right here on Ye Olde School Café! This week, we’ll continue with part two of V for Vendetta. This book was something that created a bit of a stir when it was released for several reasons (religion, sex, etc.), but it’s really just an adult read and that’s it. Alright, now, let’s get back to the action!
After an uneventful meeting between Dascombe and Alm0nd, we see Lewis Prothero and two other men boarding a train. The men converse about nonsense, but then one of them looks out the window and sees something. A cloaked figure, and that figure leaps onto the top of the train. Within a minute, the train stops and the lights go out. The three men think nothing of it at first, but after a few minutes they hear some rustling around. Mr. Prothero calls out to his lackeys, but gets no answer. He sparks his cigarette lighter to try and see what’s going on, but then he sees that the men are dead. Quickly looking to his right, he then sees V.
We next switch to Evey crying back at V’s home. He startles her and tells her to stop crying. He then asks her to tell him about her youth. She tells him about how she remembers the war that tore apart most of the world, and how her mother died when she was young, and then after the Norsefire party took control of England, they abducted anyone that they thought was a threat. Even peaceful people like her father that simply just disagreed with them. Prothero awakens to find himself in a uniform outside a “resettlement camp” called Lark Hill. As Prothero gasps, we see Mr. Finch having a conversation with the Leader about how they can still broadcast the “Voice of Fate” without Prothero. The Leader tells him that they can’t, because people would notice the difference in the voices. The Leader then tells Finch to leave while he talks with the “Fate Computer.”
As Prothero realizes that he’s not outside at the compound, but inside and in front of a replica of the camp, he calls out, and gets a spotlight turned on right in his eyes as a voice tells him that it’s time for the daily inspection. Prothero initially tries to deny anything related to this place, but then V tells him that he was a resident there and Prothero gets an uneasy feeling. V, who’s now in a costume like a ring leader with a clown mask, tells Prothero that he wants him to remember all the atrocities that occurred there. He takes him to an area that resembles one at the real camp where people were experimented on. They walk down a corridor where the doors are marked by Roman numerals. When they get to room five, V tells Prothero that he was in that room. Prothero immediately knows how much trouble he’s in, and the next thing we see is V tapping a policeman on the shoulder outside of their headquarters and pointing to a body lying on the ground. V disappears before the cop can even turn back around. Inside, Almond tells Dascombe that he’s found Prothero. They wheel him in and everyone gasps at the sight. Prothero has been reduced to the mental state of a raving lunatic. As the Voice of Fate begins to broadcast, people realize that it’s not Prothero, and V’s plan to incite people’s disdain of the government begins.
Well, that’s it for now, but come back in two weeks (we’ll be on hiatus for Christmas) and I’ll dig deeper into the master plan that V is trying to pull off, and it’s a doozy! Don’t miss it!
