Hey there Comic Attackers! If you’re like me you can never get enough X-Men. Yet, there are so many mutants out there that they’ve become incredibly hard to keep track of, let alone stay up to date on what their current power levels are. That’s why I have taken up the task to power rank all of the active X-Men post Messiah Complex from the very least to the top beast! There are 75 mutants in all to rank and today we touch on more ex-X-Men and a couple of new faces!

So what are power rankings? Mostly used to rank sports teams on how well they are playing now, my power rankings are a list of X-Men based on what their power set is in current continuity (or most recent appearance). Other factors that determined a character’s ranking are: what their power potential is, what they’ve already proven they can do (so long as it is still relevant in current continuity), and their over all level of badassness. If you disagree with me that’s totally cool- please feel free to call me out and explain what your reasoning is. I don’t expect everyone to agree with me, and while I believe this list to be very solid in it’s numbering, I’m interested to hear what you have to say! Lets see what’s cookin’:

#65. Cipher: Alisa Tager is very new to the X-Universe so not much is known about her potential power level. She was first recruited by Jean Grey and Cyclops and apparently has been present with the X-Men for some time, but little has been revealed about her past. As per her request to Cyclops, he has kept her presence on the team a secret. Alisa has helped in keeping this secret by remaining intangible amongst the X-Men until recently when she revealed herself to the former Young X-Men.

Powers: Cipher can Phase through solid matter by making herself intangible and from what I could gather, her power is exactly like Shadowcat’s. Alisa also possesses the power of invisibility, and can make herself be heard only to select individuals if she so desires. She is also psychically invisible – even Emma Frost couldn’t detect her – which has earned her this spot in the rankings.

First Appearance: Young X-Men #8, 2009.

#64. Armor: Young Hisako Ichiki is relatively new to the Marvel Universe, but during Messiah Complex she was able to hold her own in battles with the monstrous Predator X and a team of Marauders. She also fought side by side with the X-Men during Secret Invasion, and is currently a main cast member of Astonishing X-Men. Like Shadowcat and Jubilee before her, Armor appears to be Wolverine’s new protege, but her inexperience and lack of offensive power position her at a low ranking on this list. 

Powers: Hisako can generate Psionic Exo-Armor that grants her increased strength and endurance. The armor significantly increases the power behind her blows and protects her from physical harm. While her armor is able to deflect solid physical matter, we have recently learned that it is not immune to lasers and other forms of light based attacks.

First Appearance: Astonishing X-Men #4, 2004.

#63. Wondra (Jubilee): Jubilee is yet another de-powered mutant who joined the New Warriors, and with them she served as second in command. She was responsible for training the young team and was very vocal about her lack of trust in their team leader, Night Thrasher. It’s evident that Wondra isn’t the punky, happy-go-lucky mall baby we all knew in the 90’s, rather she has become a mature, hard-nosed woman who took her leadership role very seriously. Upon returning home from a futuristic mission with the New Warriors, Jubes disbanded the team of artificially powered super humans. You can start laughing now, but Jubilee was always a favorite of mine and I’d love to see her character develop further into a leadership role with the X-Men.

Powers: As Wondra, she wears a variation of The Wizard’s ‘Wonder Gauntlets’ that provide her with super-human strength, allowing her to lift up to around 1,000 lbs. The Gauntlets also permit her to generate a force field, and anti-gravity generators in her suit give her the ability to fly. The suit can go into ‘Ghost Mode,’ granting Wondra intangibility (like Shadowcat). Before losing her powers on M-Day, Jubilee could generate Energy Plasmoids (which she dubbed ‘fireworks’) in the form of globules that varied in degrees of power and intensity. She also had a form of natural Psionic Shielding that served as a defense against telepathic detection or attack.

First Appearance: Uncanny X-Men #244, 1989.

#62. Decibel (formerly Chamber): The last de-powered mutant on our list to become a member of the New Warriors, Jonothon (Jono) Starsmore accepted Jubilee’s request to join the team as a means to create instead of destroy. Which doesn’t make sense to me considering he kicked some serious ass while with the New Warriors. After the team disbanded he was seen leaving with Jubilee, the person he was closest to due to their time together with Generation X, but either character has yet to reappear in comics.

Powers: Jono is de-powered but as Decibel he has Sonic Powers which allow him to fly, create individual force fields around multiple targets, and emit energy blasts from his mouth and hands. Before M-Day Jono was an Omega Level Mutant who possessed Psionic Biokinesis. He was composed of pure psionic energy and didn’t need to eat, drink, or breathe. He could emit a Biokinetic Flame that could strike with concussive force, act as a generic flame, or cause inanimate objects to explode. Since he was made of psionic flame, if it (or he) were somehow snuffed out, Jono would have most likely died. He also had Projection Telepathy which permitted him to ‘speak’ inside the minds of those around him, but not allow him to read minds or probe someone’s thoughts. Jono could also project psionic illusions with this power, and fire Psionic Blasts that would affect a victim’s mind, knocking them unconscious or even killing them.

First Appearance: Generation X #1, 1994.
